  1. Price not an issue. Locaton DC or NOVA will go to PG or Montgomary but nothing beyond that. Time would be around 6pm ish.
  2. Just realized that this saturday is my 12th wedding anniversary. Need to take the wife out to dinner but cannot figure out where. We are looking for good food and ambiance. Don't care about the wine list neither of us drink. Ethnic is fine but it has to be somewhere nice. HELP please.... Soup
  3. I was in annandale having lunch with the mrs. past friday. We were at the korean BBQ place in the parking lot of Giant in Annandale. When we came out of the resturant, we ran into a guy selling boxes of peaches out of a non-discript van. 12kg boxes of CrestHaven peaches from WV for $25. I was hesitent to buy since I don't know if the peaches were any good. I have run into these type of folks before. Last time was also in annandale for a pallet of strawberries. I pass back then. This time peaches were hard and it didn't smell of peaches (it could have been because of the strong smoke of BBQ meat I've been inhaling in the resturant). But I decided to bite anyway and bought a box. When i got home, I had a peach. It was a little firmer than I like but very sweet. Next day however, I ate another one and it was soft, sweet and juicy, the best peach I had in couple of years. My family and I have in 3 days gone through half the box. They were all spectacular. I am kicking myself that I only bought one box. Next time I am presented with type of opp., I'm more likely to buy, which wasn't the case before. I might have to drive around this friday looking for that guy again. I don't think the rest of the peaches will make it to the weekend. Soup
  4. I went there a few times when they were open. The pho was good not great and the service really bad. After a few tries, I stopped going. However, last Friday after reading so many positive reviews I decided to give it another try. My wife and I had garden roll, Grilled beef over rice and Pho with tai, gan sach (beef, tripe and tendons). First the garden rolls, without hyperbole, it was the worst garden roll I ever had at any vietnamese place. It had these weard fried strips that was seasoned with something. I couldn't tell what the seasoning was but it had the texture of sand. As for the fried strips, I asked the server what it was. She said tofu. It was unlike any tofu I ever had. It had the consistancy and look of pigs ear. The rolls were unedible. A bad way to start the meal. For the pho, it was good but not great. The broth was fine but it came out too cold. It did not have enough heat to wilt the sprouts. The toppings were fine and the broth was good but I fail to see all the great comments about the stock. I believe golden cow and pho 75 has a superior product. For the grilled beef over rice, it was spectacular. By far one of the best versions I've had. Lots of fried shallots and lots of fresh scallions. The Beef was very flavorful. definitely the go to dish. Over all, I'm sorry I went back after my origional assessment. It is the closest pho to my house but I will continue to make the trek to golden cow and pho 75. I just don't get all the accolades of this place on this board. Soup
  5. Sounds like a great event for a great cause. Where did they get the crawfish. I thought season ends around june?
  6. Was driving by last wednesday and decided to stop. It was 11am and no one else was a round. A ordered a chicago with everything. I can honestly say, this was a real authentic chicago dog (went to school in Chicago). The steam seeded roll, neon green relish, onion, pickles, tomato, season salt, and the sweet and hot peppers, it was topped just right. The dog was a real vienna beef. Very dense meaty dog, well season, it really took me back. I can honestly say this is the best hogdog in the DC area. I just wish I didn't have to drive way out to Ashburn. Next, I have to try the italian beef and see if that measures up. I would have also order the beef but I was late for a meeting. BTW, try walking into a meeting after one of their dogs. No amount of breath mint will fix the situation but it was worth it. Anyone looking for a decent dog, drive out to ashburn. Soup
  7. Almost every korean BBQ place will have seafood jungol on the menu. They always have it. The best version was at Jin Sung Garden but they closed there doors a while of go. Yechun has a very nice version that has lobster in it. They also do a seafood grill thing that has lobster and other seafood grill. It's pretty good. As soon as it gets cooler (jungol is to hot to eat in the summer for me), should do a DR event over at a korean place for Jungol.
  8. Is there a place around DC where I can find nathan's, sabrett or hebrew national hotdogs in natural casing? The stuff I get always are skinless. I love the pressed spam-like gyro meat you get from NY street carts (the NY times food section got me thinking). Is there a place around DC where I can find the Gyro meat?
  9. on the subject of size, conv. wisdom says 1.25lb but frankly not much meat on it. I like it closer to 2 lb. I cannot really tell the difference in sweetness or tenderness. Have had one as large as 3.5 lbs and it was great. Not issues with toughness at all. As for prep. I like the chinese versions best (ginger/scallion or salt and pepper) but I also like the korean prep and italian. Korean as the main star (IMHO) in seafood jungol and italian fried and included in brodetto. But also include a freshly steamed lobster and a lobster roll on a nice soft/toasted/buttered new england hot dog roll. YUM. BTW, salt river is great. Use to make it to NIH regular on fridays but no longer work up near bethesda. Very reasonable price and fresh product.
  10. As peach season starts kicking in, I'm looking for find some good PYO peach orchards. I would appreciate any suggestions to an orchard you've had good experience with. Soup
  11. I couldn't disagree more with the origional poster. For me I wish they would outlaw plastic bags all together. I know it is tough to remember to carry bags. It was for me. But after about 5 times of forgetting and then having to carry milk and other stuff without a bag, I seem to remember just fine now. Haven't gotten a platic bag from any store in over 8 months. I have also given up bottle water. Go out and get a bottle you can refill many times. I wish they would reduce pkging all together.
  12. Been to Chung Dai Kam for lunch a couple of time (Annandale, in the parking lot with Giant). They have a picture of a cow in their sign. They have some really good lunch specials. Check them out when you have a chance.
  13. Yesterday evening sitting on the bench in the front yard. low 70s, slight breeze and eating a great bowl of blkberries watching my kids play wiffle ball.
  14. I was there with my family and this is one of my favorite food related events of the year. Just a amazing day. Jamabalaya and crawfish were excellent. My fingers are still burning. Only if there could be more boils around DC but the season is all but done. Soup
  15. I love the food there. But I actualy like the butcher part much more. Just excellent quality of meat and the price is really good.
  16. Got another batch of softshell crabs today at the great wall. $2.50 per crab. There very very lively. Great deal. Crabs were medium size but certainly fresh.
  17. I go to Dixie Bones fairly regular. Once every other week with a rotation of dishes I like (loaded BBQ potato rocks!) for the past year. The quality is fairly consistant. This place would be barely average in the southern BBQ hot spots, but for DC it is one of the best. Ribs are good but the best is the pull pork with the vinegar/tomato based BBQ sauce. I've not the the sunday BBQ buffet brunch.
  18. Sorry could not make. kid had a temp of 104. the report on your meal sounded really good. UUUUMMMM pork belly.
  19. What? I am dissappointed? Didn't they also run the roast meat counter? Really love the roast pig. If you get there early enough, they'd still have the head of the pig which they would sell you. It was amazing stuff. Hate to see the place go. Soup
  20. Love to do a good bye dimsum. If not dinner sounds great.
