  1. There is nothing I love more than Sunday brunch solo at the bar at a certain popular U St 'hood restaurant with my book, a plate of perfectly prepared eggs and a bloody mary. p.s. I'm talking about Cafe St Ex. As busy as they are on the weekends, there's always room at the bar for a singleton with reading material and a healthy appetite.
  2. "very rich" is an understatement. It almost eats like a dessert! Thanks to that lasagne, I haven't eaten since Tuesday.
  3. I recently went to Rhumberos at the suggestion of someone who claimed to have had a good experience there. Now, I don't know what this person considers to be "good" food (Jumbo Slice, maybe?), because the meal that I had was TERRIBLE. My "spinach" cakes (made with swiss chard, as we were in the middle of the E-Coli scare) were gritty because they obviously hadn't been washed properly. My mofongo - which had been hyped by the waitress as being spicy - was bland and tasted like it was made with storebought marinara sauce out of a jar and frozen shrimp from a bag. And the mojitos were nothing special. I've had better at Cafe Citron (which ain't sayin' much)!
  4. Tonight I will be feasting on: Candy corn (Brachs, by the handful) Beer (40oz, Miller High Life aka The Champagne of Beers, Milwaukee - 2006 Vintage) Maybe a neck or two...
  5. When I first moved to DC, I lived around the corner from this place! It's family owned, and they LOVE their regulars. Definitely check em out
  6. Their schtick is not unlike that of a certain Penn Quarter lounge that masquerades as a fushion restaurant, and a similar multi-roomed venue in Georgetown that shall remain nameless. There's a market for it. Some people will eat overpriced meat lollipops and love it if they're in a "fashionable environment" with sexy people and the hottest global beats blasting from the overhead speakers. Instead of, like, gagging yourself with a spoon about Posh, you should be happy that it exists as it will guarantee more open space at restaurants that act like real restaurants.
  7. Posh looks like it's setting out to bring the bling. Not that I'm judging or anything. It just looks like the kind of place that will have $15 fruity martinis. There is certainly a market for that sort of thing, though.
  8. "There are some things going down, but I can't really comment on it because I don't know what's going to happen right now." There are always things going down at Nannys. Especially in the scary bathroom with the toilet that never stops flushing.
  9. Personally, I think that zee PX is cutting edge for this city and is worth every bit of attention that it received in the Post. Why do people get so worked up about food reviews in the newspaper, though? Other than bitching about them on the internet, how would you improve them or do it better?
  10. Get someone else to do the work for you.
  11. In addition to digestive distress, they can also make you fat - hitting your thighs with over 1000 calories and lots of greasy, cheesy grossness! How many Big Macs is that? Of course, this is especially bad when they are eaten in conjunction with about 10 $1.25 Miller High Lifes and a few Red Headed Sluts from Adams Mill..and we all know that the only way that one of these SuperJumbo Slice things is even remotely edible is when one is plowed. I'll stick to my vodka and lipgloss diet.
  12. Why must you be in the commonwealth?! WHY, dammit?!
  13. Take off, you hoser. My favorite alcohol-themed movie is a documentary called The Alcohol Years.
  14. I wonder which of the two fine establishments has the best buns?
  15. Their burger (with sauteed mushrooms) is one of the best I've had at any bar* in this city. *which is saying a lot
  16. We should all follow this same philosophy for booze.
  17. Not from Pizza Movers, as I've just found out. It's terribleOn the subject of the middle eastern spot next to Mark's, it's okay. Nothing to write home about but the schwarma is aiiiight in a pinch.
  18. Bookclubs are best when hosted at a persons house. Bars offer too much distraction. Save them for the "afterparty" - since most book discussions end up lasting only about 30 minutes and the rest of the session is for gossiping, drinking and doing dramatic readings (you should have seen me read from Valley of the Dolls - brilliant, if I do say so myself!).
  19. I think that it really depends on how you feel about genetically modified, processed foods. How is eating a "tofu pup" any different than eating a "hamburger" from McDonalds? It's all fake. None of it is really real food, or good for you. It's probably the kind of thing that is fine every once in a while (like a "real" hot dog, for example) but so many people have come to rely on these products as staples in their diets and that is frightening to me, personally. I'll stick with meats that I can pronounce **. ** Or a vegetarian tasting menu that contains really real vegetables (yum).
