  1. Interesting. I heard a rumor that Wagamana was set to open in the now-empty corner restaurant space near the 18th/M St Vapiano and the Molecule salon. Either way, I am excited!
  2. My guess is that he is trying to be 'punk rock' and/or appeal to Generation X. Maybe he is the Food Network's answer to Anthony Bourdain? The problem with Guy is that he's more Avril Lavigne than Minor Threat. Not cool. His affiliation with TGIFridays makes him even less appealing.
  3. I hate him. Watching that 'Diners and Drive-ins' show makes me want to barf.
  4. Agreed. My post wasn't meant to "blame the victim" in this particular case. I dine out often and can count on one hand the number of times that servers or bartenders have been rude enough to me to warrant a "calling out". It seems to happen regularly to some people so I am suggesting that perhaps the root of the problem lies with the behavior or attitude of the diner, rather than with the restaurant staff.
  5. Riddle me this: Do my fellow diners consider the possibility that 95% of the time, people get back what they put out, when it comes to attitude? If internet personalities are any indication, there are some people who should be less surprised that servers are "rude" to them.
  6. Consider? Yes. Play by "the rules"? I don't know. Whose rules are people supposed to play by?
  7. Really? Once you leave the comfort of your house, it is no ones responsibility to make you feel comfortable unless you are a guest in their home. I am not picking on you directly, plusone, as there are others in this community who seem to think that the level of a good time that they have on any given outing is directly related to the number of poseurs who have decided to crash "their party". That is a very unfortunate attitude to have.
  8. As exclusive as PX wants to be, folks should expect a certain level of douchebaggery simply based upon the number of times that the spot has received a favorable review in local and national publications. Wasn't it recently mentioned in Playboy (again)? I guess that the bottom line is that you will never be satisfied if you go out expecting others to be on the same wavelength as you. Remember that annoying people are everywhere, and most get even more annoying when they are drunk. Also, giving someone the gasface in a bar because you don't approve of their behavior is no more classy (or less annoying) than someone acting "out of line" in "your bar" in the first place.
  9. Udupi Palace and Woodlands are great local options (both in MD - very close to SS). Both are very casual.
  10. I am definitely down with vendors who send See's Candies. Their caramels make me go like this.
  11. WOW - There is some serious hateration in the thread. What exactly does one expect from a CAFE? I think that the GT Peacock is a great spot for a sandwiches and is reasonably priced. I like the Ginger Rogers - nothing fancy - on French Baguette. The James Dean is pretty good too. If the second location has the tomato bisque, I will be eating lunch there at least once a week.
  12. I've only seen it in the Midwest. It's my favorite soda, by far. Fresca doesn't even come close!
  13. You could scrap the lunch idea and use the money towards an afternoon at Buffalo Billiards with frosty adult beverages and some happytizers.
  14. Ohhhhh, nice! If you're in to dance music at all, the VVO Remix Trilogy on Karmarouge is is f***ing sick. My favorite is #2 with remixes from Villalobos and Luciano. YUM. After Christmas, I hope to be listening to nothing but The Brit Box, while I cook/curl my hair/breathe/etc.
  15. Ahhhh, memories.... Banana Cafe wasn't always crappy. When moved to DC almost 10 years ago, I was living in a $400/month basement apartment which was located across the street from the super sketchy One-Stop market (which is now the 7-11). The bar upstairs at Banana was always a pleasant mix of friendly locals and queer people. It was like an oasis in my otherwise blaaaahhhh neighborhood. The dining room was always packed on the weekends. And the fajitas (which were deeeelicious) were half-priced on Mondays! This was perfect for a 20-year old temp like me who would manage to spend almost all of her "play money" at Buzz and Tracks on the weekends. When 8th street started gentrifying a few years ago is when Banana Cafe really started to go downhill. From what I can see, their menu is more "Tex-Mex" now, and the times that I've been to the bar it has been filled with tourists. Do they still have $2 margarita happy hour?
  16. What do you have against CSPI?
  17. What was the crowd/vibe like? With their "open late" policy and the "VIP section" that is described on the website, are they trying to appeal more to glitzy/see and be seen night owls rather than the average diner?
  18. People are talking about Casey being "hot" (rather, "not unattractive") as if the way that she looks has anything to do with her ability to win the competition. What is up with that? Let's face it, folks: the hottest thing on last night's episode was Brian's shirt during the interviews in the last half of the show. That is, if you are into shirts that are Bedazzled. Bedazzled clothing is never okay, and neither is green mashed-vegetable-stuff. His dish was completely unappetizing!
  19. Agreed. On more than a few occasions, myself and my merry band of often-inebriated friends have cursed The Fractured Prune for being closed late-night. IMO, that was a very poor bidness decision.
