  1. Sorry that I can't be of any help, lhollers, but I would love to here about your experiences. I plan on going to Thailand in late 2017.
  2. The menu has a very Husk-like feel to it, which makes sense with the chef is coming from Nashville. I'll have to pay Neal a visit - he was wonderful at Riverstead.
  3. Desperately seeking softies this weekend when everyone else is (presumably) out of town! Please help.
  4. Siroo or Juk Story - whatever it goes by now - has the best shaved ice I've had in the US. I recently tried many of the top kakigori shops in Tokyo and Siroo's bingsu compares favorably. Granted, bingsu is a little different than kakigori. Highly recommended in any case. Next time, I may try the rice porridge.
  5. I'm not much of a writer - and Tyler Cowen has already briefly covered this place - but I would urge everyone to visit Dumpling Queen and order the xinjiang ribs from the chef's specialty portion of the menu here. These pork ribs have presumably been cooked twice or even thrice! They have a crunchy, fair-food, fried exterior and are completely SAUCELESS! What makes them so delectable? The addictive spice blind that adorns the aforementioned ribs. I am not exactly sure what is in it, but I could detect sesame seeds, fried shallots, fried garlic, and peanuts. I ate an entire order by myself! I'll probably return and do a little further exploring next time I am in the area.
  6. They were able to squeeze me in right around 10:15PM Saturday night. The entire experience was incredible and they managed to crank everything out in less than an hour. The food was stunning. The service was warm and gracious. The rice milk....was divine. I had two glasses of wine with my meal as well - the two German whites they offer. I always set out wanting to hate these places so I won't have to put up with lines or eating at odd hours but, much like Rose's Luxury, I found Little Serow to more than worth the effort. The portions were manageable for a solo diner, but I tend to be a big eater as I consume most of my calories for the day in one meal (intermittent fasting).
  7. Thanks, Don. I suppose I could try to call the number listed for Komi and see if anyone would be kind enough to check for me before I taxi from my hotel.
  8. I ended up with an entire sandwich to take home when I went. However, it was stuffed between a split loaf of their potato bread, which was just fine with me.
  9. I dined here late on a Sunday night recently and was treated like royalty. I was comped at least one dish and two glasses of wine. I would highly recommend the following dishes: FIOLA MARE OYSTERS & CAVIAR - huge flavor in a champagne flute with an impossibly light prosecco froth adorning several briny oysters. The thin wafer with caviar was a pretty generous serving. Annnnnnd I don't see anything else on the current menu that I had that night. The pasta dishes are always a standout especially anything with nduja in it. I had a truffled salmon tartare with matsutake mushrooms that was amazing as well.
  10. Had dinner at Rose's around 9 last Friday night and there were empty seats next to me the entire time (at the kitchen counter). Suffice to say, this was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. The combination of delicious food, effortlessly excellent service, and over-the-top hospitality really had me on cloud nine. Pretty sure I got to try every ice cream flavor they had (all excellent, by the way).
  11. I'll be visiting for the first time this weekend. I plan on doing the Asian tasting menu with a few supplements (you can do this as a solo diner, surprisingly!).
  12. I am taking my first trip to Japan in March of 2016 and plan on going to Den - are there any other restaurants that have the same spirit? From my research I've gathered that a lot of the high-end places are rather somber and serious and I'd like to avoid that if possible. I'll be going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto if that helps.
  13. Had a killer brunch at The Shack on Sunday as I was returning home from Richmond - biscuits with rabbit gravy and a softshell crab po'boy that made me swoon. The po'boy had green tomato and pickled chiles to provide the perfect acidic foil to the briny, sweet crabbie.
  14. I completely agree with you, Don! I've been waiting for the right time (and menu) to return to Rogue for the full experience. My first visit was under the care of Ryan Moore, who was chef de cuisine at the time. It still stands out of one of my most memorable meals. I'm eager to return!
  15. Stopped in for lunch on Friday, 10/24. I sat at the bar and had an excellent meal. I'll go ahead and say that the daily lunch crush for $15 is a helluva bargain. It came with a flavorful bibb salad; chicken-fried quail with collards and grits; and chocolate pudding. Perhaps a bit overkill, but I ordered the chicken skins with snake oil as well. Perfectly salty/spicy/sweet fried morsels of poultry heaven. I'll declare the quail one of the best preparations I've had. I've eaten at Husk; both Charleston and Nashville locations, and I think RJ executes southern food with the best of 'em. As expected, the cocktails are great as well. Both RJ and BryanTetorakis were in the house. They run a tight ship! If you read this, RJ, thanks a lot for the memorable lunch. You've got a great new spot on your hands.
  16. There is a real sense of community when you dine at Riverstead. I had the good fortune, as a solo diner, to be invited to dine with a table of wonderful people. It was something that put my experience over-the-top - aside from the food and hospitality of John, Karen, Neal, and David. I rank my meal at Riverstead among the best of my life.
  17. Pricy (for me), but I dare not miss this opportunity. I'll be dining there next month. Prices include tax and gratuity, but a wine pairing is an additional $65, I do believe.
  18. I live within 150 miles of Riverstead. Needless to say, I'll be going at some point. I always lamented the fact that I didn't know about Town House until it was closed.
  19. If you find yourself in Fort Worth, put AF+B on your short list of restaurants to try. The crispy quail with sorghum hot sauce is worth the price of admission. We also enjoyed the chorizo scotch eggs, deviled crab, and dry aged ribeye with sauce bordelaise.
  20. This has been immensely helpful! Thank you so much, Will.
