  1. i have heard great things about l'impero, and also hear its very moderately priced as far as nyc goes....something like $60 for 4 courses.
  2. does make for a more difficult decision when i choose to head downtown for lunch, lunch grill or breadline? hmmmmmmmm.
  3. i went yesterday, and the pork shoulder was definetly a good deal. and roberto seems in good spirits. didnt seem to crowded when i got there around 1.
  4. i had tasty quiche there this past february. and i like the other menu options, not that i had any of them, but they read well. as for CK, I just have never had anything there that comforts me, let alone, wows me. it is what it is, a decent neighborthood joint. i just can't see it as a place to wait in line for, or go out of my way for.
  5. i was there a few sundays ago hand they had french toast, but no pancakes. not all in all that great. tabard inn has had the best brunch i have seen around town. and the dreamy dereks SO works the bar.
  6. antipasto plate with green bean and walnut salad, house made olives, bresaola and capacola. short ribs with onions braised with chimay. braised giant beans in tomato, pancetta and rosemary.
  7. if you've never been to HT, i think you will like it, when compared to the safeays and giants. the one in arlington had a great selection of produce.
  8. i like turkey sandwiches on rye bread with a little stuffing, a little cranberry sauce, salt, pepper, tabasco and spread heavily with the congealed gravy. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
  9. i have heard from a reliable source that bernard has sold manequin pis with the hopes that he will find a new space that he can own. he is driving down to galveston, i believe, with the old lavandou owner. there, the lavandou guy will pick up his boat and go sail away. but i believe bernard is staying around.
  10. turkey. casseroles.stuffing.cranberries.champagne.soup.mersault.potatoes.yams.zinfandels gravy.pecanpie.pumpkinpie.sauternes.coffee. toofulll/ happy thanksgiving.
  11. i think the bagels from georgetown bagelry or is it bagel bakery on M Street are very good.
  12. not a huge fan of colorado kitchen; i just don't think its anything special. i have been twice for dinner and once for brunch, so my verdict now has some legs. i just dont see it as a place worth going out of ones way to go. there has to be tons of restaurants around as good that dont get the love this place does. i hear great things about the sushi at makoto (not the tasting menu, but the sushi). komi is very good and a thick steak and some mashed potatoes from Rays is as american as it gets
  13. tastee diner is a good diner, open 24-7, like all good diners. its not a temple of haute cuisine, but fries and gravy and two eggs over hits the spot.
  14. they have really good vanilla milkshakes. better than the diner in adams morgan in my opinion.
  15. i had one bad meal at the pancake place, and never went back. tastee diner is an institution, but the one in bethesda is far superior (believe it or not) to the one in silver spring. there is also the parkway deli and woodside deli (located right next to 495) for very good jewish deli type breakfasts. red dog cafe (at least the two dinners i had) were bad, so i wouldnt reccommend breakfast (and i live right next to it, and wish it was decent).
  16. i think bad food for big prices is trite.
  17. i like naan bread. is that considered flatbread and therefore trite? is sprite trite? or tripe trite?
  18. i can understand how mini-burgers have become trite....a play off an old dish. but how exactly can an ingredient like squash blossoms or artichokes or watermelon become trite? they are ingredients. stuffed squash blossoms have been used all over the mediterranean, not because they are pretty, but because they are widespread. people use what they have. and i have had delicious squash blossoms here, the most memorable being at komi this sommer, stuffed with ricotta and deep fried and then served with house made pasterma.....oh but i guess homeade charcuterie is trite.... and so is the deep fryer. trite for me: spring rolls or "cigars" served anywhere besides real asian restaurants
  19. if you saute the diced sqush with onions and garlic in butter and olive oil. and then remove the squash from the pan. there will be the beginnings of a squash flavored sauce in the pan. maybe just take some of the roasted squash and mash it up and add it to the pan and whisk in a little more butter? definitely finish the dish with sage, right before you take the squash out of the pan.
  20. there is a decent deli on the left side of the road if you're heading up from judiciary square toward dc central kitchen. its before the bridge but i dont know what its called (NOT 3RD AND EATS)
  21. PÂTÉ DE LAPIN country style rabbit pâté and rillettes with celeri remoulade, mâche, toasted baguette and pommery mustard 9.50
