  1. This was quite refreshing by itself, and the new design of the bottle closure top has an interesting design that reminds me of a test-tube stopper. But prettier, of course.
  2. It's good to see that we're taking over the board...bwhaha. Thank you for posting Stephanie; I hope to find the time to make it up there and meet you and your family!
  3. Agreed. The filming of Marco White's thoughts and observations only reminded me of those cheesy Dean Witter commercials filmed in the '90s...
  4. I thought it was odd, too, but I figured it was marketing, as I copied it pretty much word for word, though not in that same ad format....
  5. In addition to Chef RJ, who has also put in many hours for this event, and our familiar mixologists of Derek, Gina, and Justin (and others), Carla Hall will also be there on behalf of Operation Frontline, another SOS program. So...HooTie Hoo yourself there!
  6. Now it'll be the entire Commonwealth, as of December 1, 2009. WaPo article.
  7. Maybe push this one to early April?? Sat or Sun lunch perhaps?
  8. Ok, I've not been there, but was up watching "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" once, which featured:Kelly O's Pine Plaza Shopping Center 1130 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh, PA 15237 Tel: (412) 364-0473 It looked nice, family-friendly, and roughly 7-8 miles acc. to Google maps. Have fun!
  9. A friend and I stopped in tonight, after seeing two sushi chefs working along side an somewhat-occupied bar -- curiosity killed the cat, as they say. They don't expect to offer a full menu until three weeks from now, but there is a bar menu offering sushi/sashimi items. According to the bartender, "a company paid them to open during inauguration and it didn't make sense not to stay open." I'm not quite sure what that meant.I think Studio Gaia must have been channeling the Opium dens of the tea houses, because the front area was pretty pitch black. Morticia-esque or heck, even mortuary-Six-Feet-Under feel to the place. In the back of the restaurant, they had the popular lighting through the wall with soft-circular seating, which well, it felt like an opium pad. There was definitely no zen to this teahouse. There is a small, probably 6 seater to the sushi bar next to the full bar; several tables in the front, and more seating in the back. The bar stools are made to mimic the old tea house wooden stools, and well, they are not kind to you if you have a bad back or sensitive seats. The bathroom translations were just funny, and even funnier when a gentlemen walked into the ladies, misreading both the empress/emperor pictures. Back to the food & service. The bartender was nice, maybe from CoCo Sala, as he asked us if he's seen us there before. We split a Yellowtail with diced cucumber and jalapeno peppers plate for $13, which came with, I think, 6 pieces of sashimi, topped with really diced-marinated cucumbers, greens, and jalapeno surrounding an awkwardly placed kale/cabbage centerpiece. The slices were too oblong to be picked up with the chopsticks offered, and it made for awkward maneuverings to even get the piece with its accessories in my mouth. The fish tasted alright. No pop, not even with the extras. Wine by the glass ran from $10 and up, if I recalled right. The feeling between the two of us was that it was a bit on the pricey side for the food and drinks. Although there were other beers on tap, it was strange to see Sapporo, Kirin, and Stella Artois all lined-up in a row. The only upside was the addicting bowl of wasabi peas at the bar. It'll be really interesting on the real opening, I think.
  10. I feel like this is confession; I have to get it out somewhere: Bacon in EasyMac is not good tasting. Not recommended...
  11. Online! Gino's East and Lou ships too, I believe. Of course, it's all without meat, but it makes your additions all the more fun.*missing a piece of home...
  12. I haven't tried their waffles, but Locolat is somewhat metro-accessible at the edge of Dupont, and I've heard they're very good. For some reason, this is the only place off the top of my head, as who can complain about hanging out around chocolate, coffee and food?
  13. Only if it involves Bacon!ETA: Yes, Congrats!! What exciting times to come.
  14. (Psst, Zora!): Pie crusts were back in stock at the Foggy Bottom location today for $4.49.
  15. Armand's depends on the location you order from, as I've had some misses in this area, like the Clarendon/Rosslyn location. At one point, I seem to recall Alberto's claiming to do deep dish, but I never tried theirs.
  16. Does the Lions' Club sell mass citrus boxes out by you? I've found when I could have oranges that was a great way to keep fruit in the house. Keep it up!!
  17. Unfortunately reporting that I think this place has continued its path downhill. Even though it's only an order of Pad Thai for tonight, it was the most lifeless and tasteless pad thai I've ever had there or anywhere. The shrimp could probably bounce like a super ball tonight. The meal left me feeling bluer than this interface and perhaps a Smurf. What happened here??
  18. Road trip, anyone? Now casting for Season 6 near here: NEW YORK Sunday, March 1, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM CraftSteak Restaurant www.craftrestaurant.com/craftsteak_newyork.html PHILADELPHIA Wednesday, March 4, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM XIX NINETEEN at Park Hyatt at the Bellevue www.nineteenrestaurant.com
  19. It's a matter of taste. The youtiao here is bigger, a bit poofier and thus, slightly softer to the taste compared to the one at Great Wall, which is a bit crispier. The latter is the way my mom likes it, so she'll direct you to GW, but the other catch is that GW's food area doesn't sell the shaobing (flatbread). Oriental Gourmet is worth trying, even if you're out in Tyson's.
  20. Thanks to those responding so far! Tentative attendees list: dcdavidm +1 ktkatpaddywak MC Horoscope +1
  21. Their Chinese menu isn't too bad either. On the weekends, they have a Northern Chinese menu, and I prefer their fried dough/crullers with Shaobing (flatbread) over some of the other places (ok, well, I also like the fried youtiao at the food place in Great Wall supermarket). Their XLB filling is a bit dry, but the dough is good.
  22. Ahem, can you turn the volume down a bit? If you read the DCist interview, I think Carla quoted Fabio saying "this isn't cooking, this is rushing," and truly that's what it seems like on this show. Cut some slack! You may need to watch the whole season again, if you're making these comments on her. Yes, she does have some consistency issues, but so did the other chefs. I think the top three did a nice job and was glad that at least part of this season was very entertaining compared to past seasons.
