Is this joint kid (7 year-old) friendly? Would it already be packed at 4:30/5pm on Friday?

I stopped in last night after seeing Rogue One (disappointed) at Udvar Hazy. Hot Pepper Chicken in Hot Pot was enjoyable if a bit greasy. I was surprised that the chicken was largely chopped up chicken backs. Should one expect that? Despite having to pick around a lot of bones, it was delicious. Next time I'll ask for more heat. I also tried the steamed dumplings and I thought the skin (right word?) of the dumplings was more silky and tender than at Dumpling Queen, but the porky interior was tough and gristly. I'll be back to try the BBQ and sample other dishes.

i noticed last night that the Zoe's on Franklin Farm Road in Herndon just opened. It looked packed! I live about a mile away, so I look forward to trying it out soon. Why do I have a feeling I'll be bitchin' about it here afterwards?

I've watched this a couple of times. Man, they really take their cannabis chemistry seriously! "Bong Appetit" on munchies.vice.com

I took my daughter here a couple of nights ago and had a wonderful time. The place was packed, so we took a couple of seats at the tiny 4-seat bar where my daughter had plenty of opportunity to charm the waitstaff as they picked up their food and drink orders. The sauce is sweeter than I'd typically like but it somehow works really well with the excellent charred crust and cheese. They make a mean meatball pizza! We'll be back!

If the planets were on the same plane, wouldn't you see more frequent transits of Mercury and Venus?

The planets aren't on the exact same plane, though most are pretty close, so I don't think you'd ever have an exact straight line. Pluto (yeah, yeah, it's not a planet), for instance, is on a plane that is 17 degrees off from the the rest of the planets. I found this quote here:

I can't say Thom Yorke's voice is particularly mellifluous across all his recordings, but somehow it fits right in with Radiohead's style. This may not qualify as "pop", but it is falsetto, right?

Our soon to be National Security Adviser isn't condemning the conspiracy-- he's fanning the flames. I'm not saying he'd condone the actions of the gunman, but he sure seems to condone the motive. The. National. Security. Adviser. I look forward to hearing about what he advises in the White House situation room when the shit hits the fan.

This conspiracy bullshit is outrageous. I'm really trying to not get political about this, but it's a political topic. Has anyone checked to see where this crap started? None other than Breitbart. And some of these nutcases believe that John Podesta's political operatives killed Andrew Breitbart. I though it was bad enough when I read that our future National Security Adviser's son tweeted: “Until #Pizzagate proven to be false, it'll remain a story. The left seems to forget #PodestaEmails and the many ‘coincidences’ tied to it.” Then I saw a tweet from the future National Security Adviser himself: "U decide - NYPD Blows Whistle on New Hillary Emails: Money Laundering, Sex Crimes with Children, etc... MUST READ!" I'm sure we'll see more dangerous behavior from these conspiracy morons. I just hope no one gets killed.

Does Being Able to Cook Well Diminish the Value of Eating Out?
Al Dente replied to ktmoomau's topic in Shopping and Cooking
I'm a damn good cook, if a bit out of practice given that I don't cook much from scratch these days and I despise my kitchen. Unlike what some folks said above, I will order something on the menu that I can do at home because there are times it can really open your eyes to varied takes on a certain dish. That said, I kick myself when I order pasta at a run of the mill red-checked tablecloth kind of Italian joint. It dawns on me that I've ordered $0.09 worth of dried pasta and a sauce that could be whipped up in 10 mins. I can roast a chicken, and folks usually love it, but it ain't a Rutabird. Once I had one at Palena (those were the days), I tried several times, with varying degrees of success, to mimic the recipe. I really had fun doing it, and I think some other DR folks enjoyed it too.- 30 replies

Perfectly put. Now for the pretentious defense: Ken Johnson's review from the NYT "Bulbous volumes" of BS. Here's a beautifully realized balloon knot:

Can someone tell me what that sculpture means? Is there anything deeper here beyond a large-scale reproduction of an animal balloon? It's shiny and kinda cute, but who gives a $58M rat's ass?
