  1. Before the campaign really heated up I thought the KKK had largely gone the way of the dinosaur. Seems I was wrong-- really fucking wrong.
  2. Don-- perhaps you'd enjoy these Dylan covers from Chris Smither. You'll likely not be crazy about his voice, but he's a master guitarist. Visions of Johanna from Blonde on Blonde is one of my favorite tracks. "As she, herself prepares for himAnd Madonna, she still has not showedWe see this empty cage now corrodeWhere her cape of the stage once had flowedThe fiddler, he now steps to the roadHe writes everything's been returned which was owedOn the back of the fish truck that loadsWhile my conscience explodesThe harmonicas play the skeleton keys and the rainAnd these visions of Johanna are now all that remain." Smither also covered Desolation Row from Highway 61 Revisited. Another of my favorites: "Praise be to Nero's Neptune, the Titanic sails at dawnEverybody's shouting, "Which side are you on?!"And Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot fighting in the captain's towerWhile calypso singers laugh at them and fishermen hold flowersBetween the windows of the sea where lovely mermaids flowAnd nobody has to think too much about Desolation Row" If you get the chance to see Smither live, go! I've seen him a couple of times at The Barns of Wolftrap. I see that he'll play at Ram's Head in Annapolis on 12/2 and Strathmore on 2/11.
  3. In my opinion it's quite good. I have had situations where Waze recommends that I take some convoluted route to my destination. When I first started using it, I didn't believe it was navigating correctly when it set me on such a route. But each time I thought to myself that Waze is full of it, and I went ahead on my usual route, I've regretted it because I ended up in a huge traffic jam.
  4. You could always buy your dinner at Neiman Marcus. Dinner for 8
  5. I wonder if you can get the quail stuffed into the capon and then stuffed into the turkey? A quacapturk if you will.
  6. Yeah, every once in a while one of their hits will make me turn up the radio, but for the most part their music brings to mind the geekiness of Renaissance Fair(es)s. I never heard this term before, but I think it fits JT well: Medieval Folk Rock - Wikipedia
  7. Don't forget to pick up your free Doritos Locos Taco (wtf is that?) on 11/2 courtesy of Francisco Lindor! "Free Tacos at Taco Bell Thanks to Stolen Base at World Series" on fox2now.com
  8. Here's my six year-old human and three year-old rescued cat. I'm not sure which is more well-behaved, but they're both amazingly sweet. We fostered this cat about 6 months ago and after a week I had to adopt her. I haven't had a pet since I was in my twenties. Having this critter around the house has given me a surprising bump in my happiness level. Shout out to City Dogs Rescue for their work!
  9. Mythbusters did a bit on quicksand: Killer Quicksand on Mythbusters
  10. Is there anywhere around here where I can get some TX bbq'd dinosaur beef ribs? May 23, 2014 - "Big, Bad, Beef Ribs: A Crash Course" by Steven Raichlen on barbecuebible.com
  11. I can't select more than one. If I check one box, and then another, the first check disappears.
  12. I take full responsibility. It took FORTY-FIVE FUCKING MINUTES just to get out of the parking garage-- and I was only 1 level down! Added insult to injury.
  13. $250 later, including parking and all sorts of fees, I'll be in Section 132 Row K. It is inevitable that, due to my presence, the Nats will kick ass!
  14. Who's going? Any tips on where to park or how to get outta there after Metro, in all its wisdom, closes? On StubHub I'm seeing nosebleeders for around $80, and some baseline box seats for around $180. All my baseball-loving friends are O's fans. I'll likely go by myself.
  15. I went for dinner a few weeks ago and left disappointed. I used to live in Rockville, so I know how good Joe's can be. The first thing I noticed was how empty it was. A couple of years ago, the place would be packed by 7 every night, but there were only 2 other occupied tables at 6:30. I ordered the dry saute beef which was a pale imitation of what it once was. I don't think there were any Szechuan peppercorns in it, the flavors were muted, and the beef itself was soggy rather than crispy. Was that just a bad night, or has Joe's faded into mediocrity?
