  1. There is place in College Park, right on the main strip( I don't recall what the name of the street is) called South Street Steaks. I don't claim to be from Philly, i actually don't care for the sports fans there at all: ex. Booing Santa Clause, booing Donovan McNabb on draft day. I am, on the other hand, an alum of a seven year stint at Penn State. I've had my share of cheesesteaks in State College as well as Philly. South Street Steaks is the real deal you can even order it "with" and they know talkin 'wiz and onions. And they put yor picture on the wall if you eat two or more in one sitting. Craig
  2. They must be made of some inorganic substance because it doesn't matter how long you chew, there is always one tiny particle that will flay your esophegus on the way down. That's why I always order soft tacos!
  3. Wait a second, forget dinner. You're supposed to buy a red, convertable Miata now.
  4. Ok, I grew up in NYC and I went to summer camp in Maine but I never heard of "hamantaschen" Please enlighten me. Craig sweet I'ma clam
  5. I cannot speak for Taco Baja, but Picante's, just down 50, west of 28 is not bad at all. Inexpensive, well prepared tex-mex is what they have. Ok tequila selection, but I prefer Pacifico anyway. If you go, the queso fundido cannot be missed. Melted queso blanco and peppers and tortillas rock the house. craig
  6. Aster, a fine dining restaurant located in Loudoun County, the fastest growing county in the U.S. has received, in its first year, 3 stars in Washingtonian Magazine's "100 Very Best Restaurants" and 2 1/2 stars in The Washington Post's Annual Dining Guide of 50 Restaurants. We are seeking a Chef de Partie/Lead Cook to join our team of professionals, who is eager to contribute to our growth. The candidate should have a fine dining background, be driven and goal-oriented, mature and self motivated, and above all, love the hospitality industry. Vist our website (www.asterrestaurant.com) to get a clearer understanding of who we are. If you are at a point in your career where you want an opportunity to be part of a restaurant that is defining standards in our industry, we want to hear from you.
  7. Is Miller light considered a guilty pleasure or just guilty? If it's just guilty then, well, lock me up baby.
  8. My UNCLE got thrown out of the place for pee'ing on the table that his friend lit on fire. . . he's was being helpfull Not Kidding! Ya gotta love that place
  9. Ok, I grew up in a very Italian neighborhood in Queens, New york. I miss the cookies, canolies and Italian ices that were the treats of my childhood. I'm talking one of those bakeries that stil have the rounded glass front windows and tiled entryway that has the name of the joint in mosiac on the floor. More specificaly I miss La Gouli's (spelling?) on Ditmars Blvd. at the end of the N train. If you know what I'm talking about great, if not, then let me know what your go-to bakery is. Cookie and canolies are a must Italian ices are a plus. Thanks in Advance, Craig
  10. There's this little mom and pop type place by me, I think it's called "The Olive Garden"
  11. I know you're asking for steak tartar but Johnny Rooks' lamb tartar at Firefly is dope. I especially loved the texture. Not the mashed up chop meat that you might normally find, but really nice firm pieces of fantastic meat. Don't sleep on the celery root either.
  12. This year, I believe, is Hard Time's 25th anniversary. Get this, 25 cents drafts of the house lager on the 25th of every month this year. Only two more chances to get your drink on, on the cheap. And I'm only speaking for the Herndon location 'cause that's the only one I've been to.
  13. Tom Sietsema: Aster in Middleburg will not be open on Thanksgiving. Happy Turkey Day!! Craig Click here for a peek at what we have to offer.
  14. A sommelier's service is reserved for those who want help ordering wine, period! Picking and choosing who should be helped and who shouldn't is most certainly not in the spirit of hospitality. Just my two cents!

  16. As someone who works in the industry and dines out whenever I can I would say from a guest's point of view you would look quite harried. Not haveing a support staff is not only inneficient but it just looks bad to have the same person doing everythng at the table. Not to mention the fact that you have more then one table at a time. Please take no offense but whoever is running your restraurant is NUTS!!!
  17. I'm starting to get the feeling that I was given misinfo at my prior job to pass on to guests who complained that our "baked alaska" was not aflame.
  18. I thought that flaming stuff was not allowed in DC, as in breaking fire code. No flare behind the bar, no flare in the dining room!
