  1. I had Hopslam (served in a sniffer) on tap at Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon. 8 bucks. It was delicious, but I would agree with Chris above, I don't know if its THAT much better than Troegs Nuggest Nectar.
  2. I'm in the same boat...woke up to an email regarding an "urgent" work meeting that I'll be needing to stop in for which will preclude me from getting out to NKF. Didn't want to clog up a spot if there is someone that wants in at the last minute.
  3. I've eaten at the Arlington location a few times (generally at the request of friends who live in that general vicinity and almost always a few months apart). I love BBQ and find myself, after driving by a few times saying, "maybe last time was an outlier" only to be smacked upside the head when they deliver my (always) bland food. I don't think Rocklands is any bastion of great BBQ but I would much rather enjoy their onion rings and a sandwich than set foot in Red Hot and Blue.
  4. Count me in as a maybe...I would really like to try a place that has a chance to set my mouth/insides on fire since I've been salviating over all the Sichuan posts (and the BBD that happened awhile back) since I joined the site.
  5. I have to agree with Chris. While the beer was good, it wasn't worth hunting around for it (although, I owe a bit thanks to Chris for finding a cache of the stuff and pointing me in its direction...I certainly owe him a beer). I've got a bottle that I'm going to let age to see how that impacts it, but its not something I'd run to order on draft if I had the chance as there are so many good beers out there right now.
  6. For me: Washington Deli (20th & K) - NY (family is from Long Island or Queens...I forget) style, great by the slice. Always packed during lunch. 2 Amys - Always order mine extra crispy, never had an issue with the "soupiness" others complain about sometimes. The Etna or the Putenesca (sp?) are my go tos. Radius - Great cheese pie but also outside the box pizzas. In particular their "Fall (now Pumpkin)" Pizza is unbelievable (pumpkin base, feta/ricotta cheeses, red onions). Vace - Sauce on top of the cheese. Nice crisp but not too thin crust. My go to carry-out (helps that it is up the street). Church Street Pizza (Vienna) - NY Style pizza, reminds me of what I was able to consistently get growing up in Eastern, PA/Jersey
  7. from the menu (since I just happened to be looking at it... ): "Bufala Cheese ~ air freighted from Puglia, Sundays & Thursdays ~ fresh mozzarella outside ~ fresh curds & cream inside ~ olive tapenade ~ red pepper tapenade ~ oven roasted tomato ~ olio & basil"
  8. I went to Pitt and always look quizzically at this title...I always took "Pittsburgh-Style" pizza to be bad and cheap (Antoons, the O) . The good pies in the city were of the wood fired variety (Fuel & Fuddle, Church Brew Works).
  9. I asked and there is not. And regarding the man vs. food...right before christmas there was a big run of all the episodes on the travel channel and there actually was one where he ate this giant burrito (I think at a Nascar themed place oddly enough). The burrito at Guajillo I would say is equal size to the one shown in that episode.
  10. I would give the Organic Butcher in McLean a ring...they've always been very helpful when I've had odd orders/questions.
  11. A few friends and I were heading to Hell Burger on Saturday evening and ended up giving Guajillo a try. Upon sitting down I noticed the "eat it all and its free!" remark regarding the burrito so I took the plunge... All I can say is that I actually laughed when it was dropped infront of me: 1. This might be one of the better deals around...at 15 dollars, I would say its the size of roughly 3.5-4 Chipotle burritos. 2. After some discussion with our waiter (who was great) apparently only 6 have actually finished it in the restaurant. Suprisingly the burrito (the 1/4 I ate there) was actually very good. While the hot sauce was supposed to be very spicy, I didn't think it that bad (although I love all things spicy). I got a kick out of the fact that since my leftovers were too big for a styrofoam container, they essentially give you a large foil pan to take the remains home. Mine ended up providing an extra 3 meals...
  12. I'm curious to know, did you actually ask to speak with someone? Their host(ess) stand is next to the front door so unless there was nobody around, it puzzles me that you wouldn't have spoken to whoever was around.
  13. Big Poppa - Ray's Hell Burger Bison Tartare and Pumpkin Bread Pudding- Eventide (and frankly, any drink at the bar) Burger - Palena Grilled Pancetta Wrapped Apricots over Marscapone - Dino Squash Soup - Corduroy Shrimp/Oysters - Happy hour at Old Ebbitt Palak Chaat - Rasika Many Beers - Churchkey Fall Pizza - Radius
  14. Sierra/Dogfish Life and Limb (thanks Chris!), followed by some combination of Bells Christmas Ale and Bells Winter White.
  15. It's my understanding that Monday's are generally the most low key night there...I've gone early each time I've headed to Churchkey and its been ok, but once the 630-7 time frame hits, it seems to get crazy.
  16. -Mixed eggs with onions, red peppers, baby new potatoes, and bacon this morning -Have a batch of dough rising for home made pizza (ricotta, mozzarella, and whatever else I can find in my pantry) -deciding between gingerbread cookies or chocolate chip
  17. I agree with Gennaro in that a "NYC Slice" is big enough that I can fold it, with a thin crust that maintains some level of crisp-ness. The only such pie I've encountered in the area is actually at Washington Deli. I don't know if its even still there as I no longer work on the K Street corridor but I believe it was at 20th and K, by the Washington Sports club. From what I remember, the family that owned the place (this was circa 2004-2005) was from Queens and was definitely making an attempt at creating what I thought of as NY style pizza. I used to love going there for a slice or two at lunch. If they're still up and running, I'd definitely recommend them.
  18. An old friend of mine passed along this recipe the other day. His father made it growing up and my friend has carried on the tradition of making it...I love this stuff (in all its unhealthy glory) so I figured I'd contribute: 6 eggs 3/4 cup of sugar 2 2/3 cups of whole milk 1 tsp vanilla 1 pint heavy cream 1 to 1.5 cup (s) silver rum depending on how boozy you want it . -Beat eggs and sugar slowly. -stir in rum -Add milk, vanilla, and 1/2 the cream and beat well. -whip the remaining cream until stiff and fold into the other mixture slowly. **Note: this then sits in the fridge for 3-5 days. Trust me its worth the wait. The above makes about a half gallon.
  19. Had a quick dinner here earlier this week. At around 7:30 the place was an interesting mix of suits and college students scattered across the upstairs sitting area. Ordered baba ghanoush and a chicken souvlaki sandwich. The eggplant came with nice freshly toasted pitaand the chicken was pleasantly moist and not overwhelmed by the tzatiki sauce. All in all, combined with a Sierra Nevada the meal came in under 20 bucks. Not earth shattering, but if you're near Dupont and want something quick/cheap, this would definitely do the job.
  20. As a bit of a counter to this, are we as a society this uptight that something as simple as the opening of a small business causes us to be "frothing at the mouth angry"? I can safely say that I can't think of a reason I would ever set foot in this establishment. But, as someone who believes in a capitalist society, I would never get riled up over an entreprenour taking a shot with a small business, whether I believe in the product or not. If this place succeeds, kudos to them for taking something that should clearly result in high margins and making it work.
  21. Not sure I'll get to decide for myself since I clearly didn't do a good enough job of hunting it down as soon as it was released last week (everywhere mentioned in the thread is sold out)
  22. Limiting this to places I've been to (if it was a want list, I'd include Komi, Cityzen, etc) Dirt Cheap- 2 Amys - Etna Pizza, extra crispy Lost Dog Cafe - Razbo Oscar with a cup of chicken corn chowder Radius - Fall Pizza (in season) Regular Priced- Dino - Grilled Prosiutto wrapped apricots over marscapone with balsamico (in season) and a bottle of wine suggested by Dean. Cafe at Palena - Burger and Fry Plate (extra lemons) Rays the Steaks - cup of crab bisque, hangar steak Spendy- 6 course tasting Menu at Vidalia Eventide - Buffalo Tartare Central - Lamb shank over corn polenta
