  1. I tend to agree with Waitman on this one. Did the server screw up by promising something that ultimately wasn't delivered? Yup. However, in my mind, if you're going to a place like B&B I think asking to have separate checks (regardless of party size) is bad form to begin with.
  2. I'd probably lean towards taking the metro at that time on a Saturday since you'll be battling zoo goers/other restaurants/and folks heading to the Uptown for parking. That said, if you were willing to walk a bit, you could probably find parking up closer to Van Ness and walk down if you are concerned about the hour metro ride.
  3. My parents brought me up in much the same way. However, the issue I take here more concerns the venue. If watching the World Cup match is of such paramount importance go to a sports bar. If you're going to a neighborhood pizza place, don't expect people (children or not) to cede to your need to watch whats on TV.
  4. I like: How to Cook Everything. It distills the book into app form...I use it when I'm in the grocery store and need to pair a side/main together. Great interface. TF Fast. Some decent recipes, but again, its the ease of consolidating the ingredients into a shopping list.
  5. I believe the Fojol Brothers cart (curries, etc) is out by L'Enfant fairly frequently. They post their location on twitter (@fojolbros) daily.
  6. In my opinion you can't go wrong with some Shiner Bock to go with BBQ
  7. "The study did not adjust for levels of obesity. "
  8. Had dinner here tonight and while I thought the pizza was good, I wasn't blown away like many others seem to be. Had the pizza with sausage, grilled onions, and mozzarella and the +1 had the special white pizza with mortadella which was draped over the finished pie. We also split an arancino which I thought maybe was too big as the mozzarella inside seemed to have a bit of melting to do still when I cut into it, that said, the flavor was good and the outside crisp. I'd categorize the pies as good and I would certainly stop by if in the area, I just wouldn't make a special trip. On a separate note, I sincerely hope that their AC issue is temporary as it was quite warm in there tonight (and would be brutal for the chef's in front of the oven if it was warmer than the 84 degrees it was this evening).
  9. Scott, any way you'd be able to post your BBQ sauce base? It was absolutely delicious.
  10. Just got back and, much like the fall picnic, I am so full that I'm actually short of breath. Some dishes of note (and apologies for those who I fail to mention, I probably only made my way through about 50% of the food): -The pig...oh the pig...delicious and moist. I caught the +1 opening the tupper ware on the ride home to sneak a few bites. This was the first time I've had a pig on site and it lived up to its billing as the main event. Thank you agm! -Gennaro, even though he wasn't there in person, is now 2 for 2 when it comes to making show stopping arrancini for the picnic. -Spring Rolls - perfectly fried, Mary's spring rolls were light and crisp vessels for the excellent vegetables hidden within. -Kibbee Footballs - I'd never had these before...they were delicious. -Fried Chicken and Brisket- perfect. People descended on these like a pack of wolves, with just cause. I'm looking forward to the few pieces of leftover brisket for lunch tomorrow! -Deviled Egg/Crab dip - Whoever made this, please post this recipe. -Gelato - Thank you to Molly for bringing Dolcezza's delicious wares. The avacado gelato was unexpectedly delicious. I will definitely be stopping by the new DuPont location to say hello and indulge in some more. -Home Brewed Beer - This dark, non-hopped beer was delicious. Surprisingly light and refreshing for a very dark beer. Also, since I now have a half barrel of Bell's Oberon sitting here at the condo, if anyone wants it (as much as I'd love to spend the week making my way through it, looking at my work calendar that isn't going to be in the cards) just let me know as I'm happy to donate it to a home that will use it up in the next week before I need to return it. It was great putting faces to handles and spending some time with some familiar faces!
  11. Just picked up the keg which is now sitting on ice in the bathroom (first time buying a keg in DC, much more paperwork than I remember having to fill out in PA): I'm looking forward to enjoying it with that tasty pig. With the number of people attending, it better get kicked
  12. Stopped in at the Tacklebox last night with the +1 to use the recent groupon. Haven't been in just over a year (it looks like their quest to serve beer never materialized) but here is the run down: I had: Maine Meal with Wood Grilled Calamari (with basil walnut pesto), Grilled Portabello, and Cornbread. The calamari was fantastic, with a nice charred exterior on several perfectly cooked tubes that lacked any sign of being rubbery. The portabello was well marinated and cooked well and the cornbread was nicely done (even a little custardy) and lacked the cloying sweetness that I generally try to avoid. The +1 had: Maine Meal Fried shrimp (with cocktail sauce) with cole slaw and corn bread. I thought the cole slaw was pedestrian but that the shrimp were as I'd expect from a road side place near the bay. The cocktail sauce had a nice zing from the horseradish as well. We split: Fried Oysters. A good sized portion of well fried oysters (again with cocktail sauce). The oysters themselves were good sized and had a nice brininess that cut through the fried coating. All in all, everything was good...however, I think the items off the grill really are the highlights here and the reason I will definitely return.
  13. As it looks like we will have more than enough people to put away a keg, I have ordered a barrel of Bell's Oberon for the picnic . There is one small issue. Since I had to order the keg from Wagners (in DC) I have to pick it up on Saturday afternoon/evening. This presents a problem as I have to figure out how to keep this thing cool until the picnic Sunday in a relatively small condo. So, is there anyone (either closer to the picnic site or in DC) that has room where they could store this in a cold place? I would really owe you one. Worst case, I will deal with the death stares my GF will probably be sending my way when I put it in the tub Saturday night on ice
  14. I think this really sounds like a good idea (as well as something that once it gets rolling, would serve as a great resource). I'll be at the picnic and I'll bring my checkbook.
  15. Brisket that hung out all day in the crock pot with a bottle of Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale (and some other things) Homemade creamy coleslaw Dogfish Head Aprihop
  16. This is definitely something I'd be interested in doing as well.
  17. Will 2nd both Bourbons as your place to go. The key is talking to the bartenders about what you like (or don't), they've always pulled something surprising out that ended up being delicious when I've asked. The food is also good (although I've only been to the Glover Park location). When you sit down order the sweet chips. You will thank me.
  18. I'd suggest the upstairs bar area at Darlington House (the area behind where the main dining room is on the 2nd floor vs. its basement level bar).
