  1. I am finding the logic a bit puzzling in a couple pieces of this: -You increased the party size for a reservation at the height of what is arguably one of the busiest nights of the week...didn't phone ahead to check, and complain about the problem solving skills of the hostess? -How was over-salting in any way shape or form be relating to a chef smoking? How does one correlate to the other? -Was the staff not wanting your business related to your problems with the hostesses? Or a service misstep during the meal?
  2. It is...and I'll admit that I couldn't resist (damn lack of self control) dipping into them. So far the Schlafly Pumpkin has been my favorite on draft (Churchkey and Big Hunt).
  3. My thought here is that the nature of the "Thank You" note is to respond to an act...be it one of kindness, great service, etc. B/c the restaurant already provided something that was worth giving thanks for, it seems somewhat superfluous for the restaurant to respond to the thank you.
  4. I'm coming from Cleveland Park and have room for 1, so anyone in need of a last minute ride, let me know.
  5. Ditto. May we raise another glass in 18 months time...in celebration of his return.
  6. Ditto the Greek Deli when I was on K street. Any reason you've stopped using Washington Deli (I used to love their pizza for lunch) or are you just looking to change it up?
  7. Get the Brazillian Strip (with Piranha? sauce). As someone who tends to skew towards the tougher, more flavorful cuts of meat, I really loved this take. Perfectly medium rare with a nice char, the sauce perfectly complementing the steak in every way. Split a bottle of the Bodega Tamari Riserva Malbec (one of the 47 (!) bottles priced at 30 or less on the wine list) with the +1 which we both found to be deliciously easy to drink, to the point where I had to double check the name on the way out in the event I decided to pick up a few bottles. In no way did I feel rushed, in fact, I found the service to be quite delightful. All in all last night just confirmed what I knew going in, I need to visit Ray's more often.
  8. This weekend I'm looking to get my hands on some lobsters (maybe 10 1.5 lb crustaceans) for a little birthday celebration I'm throwing. As there haven't been any recent responses within this thread, anyone have any options that they'd recommend? Location doesn't much matter. As an aside, anyone know where I can get a full lobster pot/turkey fryer rig (I did already check the lobster pot thread and would rather not trek out to wegmans) in the area?
  9. What about BlackSalt? Fits the healthy and quiet bill and I've never had much of an issue parking right around there.
  10. I'd agree with the "urban perk" classification as I tend to view these carts more as a lunch/afternoon meal type place. For me, if I want to sit down or have dinner, the idea of a food truck wouldn't even pop into my brain...which makes it sort of an apples to oranges comparison in terms of the street trucks "taking" business from brick and mortar stops.
  11. I always thought Mackey's did a good job with their nachos (particularly with chicken), but I haven't had them in a couple of years.
  12. I'm only cooking for 2 but I go once a month and get mostly meat (the large cuts, etc.) that I butcher down into individual portions and then freeze. I haven't done a cost benefit analysis or anything, but at the very worst it keeps my weeknight meal prep to a minimum. I do hate the lines, so I try and go first thing in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday which normally helps me get in/out relatively hassle free.
  13. He didn't seem to know. My buddy was just at the brewery and he didn't mention any supply issues other than last year...it's weird b/c I saw the summer ale a few places last year and the pumpkinhead (fall seasonal) all over the place. **this search is what initially brought me to the site a bit over a year ago...my how time flies...
  14. I'm back on the hunt for Shipyard Summer...after the helpful replies upthread I found it in a few places (Ace, D'Vines) last year. This year however, I haven't been able to track any down. When I asked Joe on a recent visit into Ace he said he wasn't sure if they were going to be able to get any this summer. Any leads/tips on where I could pick a case up would be greatly appreciated (again)!
  15. I generally make my own, however when I'm really crushed for time (I like the cold rise method, which means I need to make it the day before I need it), Vace is my go to for premade dough. I'm not a huge fan of trader joe's and have never had the Italian Stores. Granted, if you're not in Cleveland Park or Bethesda (where the Vace locations are), it probably just makes sense to get dough from wherever is closest to your home since there probably isn't THAT much of a difference between them.
  16. Chubby's BBQ has been mentioned in the BBQ forum (its right off 15), however, the commentary seems to have been a big negative over the last year. In regard to the Shamrock (also right off 15) I've never been, but it is ALWAYS packed (I've been driving past it for 6 years on my way to the Lehigh Valley).
  17. To George Steinbrenner...it is fitting that Bob Sheppard will be there to announce his arrival... As a Yankee fan he is responsible for many of the seminal sporting moments of my youth. But as a baseball fan, he changed the way the business worked for small (flooding teams with revenue sharing) and large (daring the other owners to spend to keep up) market teams. He will be missed.
  18. Brooklyn Summer Ale. Refreshing after a scorching round of golf.
  19. The fried pita chips still come out as a free app and the service is still good. I've been in a few times (and will probably visit more frequently when my office moves 2 blocks away at the end of the summer) recently and have had 2 solid salmon dishes (perfectly cooked flesh with great crispy skin). Beers on tap are a bit generic although they have a rotating seasonal that skews towards the hoppy (or has in the past). I'd put Town Hall in the solid neighborhood spot category and in all honesty, I don't think the folks who run the place would say they were trying for anything but.
  20. Donovan Darlington House would fit the bill I think.
