  1. Has anyone else noticed a discrepancy between the shrimp sizes at Clyde's Gallery Place and the Old Ebbitt? I have been to both places twice in the last two months. The shrimp were noticeably bigger (and had a better texture) at Clyde's. If this is the case all the time, I'll be a little disappointed, because I much prefer the overall experience of the Ebbitt -- and since the prices are the same at both places, it would be nice to get the same product.
  2. I think the previous appraisals above are still valid. This is a great space. If you're going there on a weekend night, I'd recommend reservations. There must have been some miscommunication when I spoke to them on the phone, because I was told they didn't take reservations. Luckily, there were seats (they have a total of six) available at the bar, and this ended up working out for the best anyway. The other seating is very cozy, but you do have to lean in considerably to have a conversation or eat your food. The wines were a decent value -- I had a few half glasses, and they would have passed for full glasses at many other establishments. As for food, I only sampled a few small plates, but everything was of high quality. I look forward to returning.
  3. I recently took some pictures of the Courthouse dinner menu. I didn't use a flash, hence a slow shutter speed, hence the headache inducing blurriness. But all the text is legible: Ray's Courthouse Dinner Front Ray's Courthouse Dinner Back
  4. Were you in the dining room or at the upstairs wine bar? I was curious about the latter, because it seemed more casual -- as opposed to the downstairs area where you should probably have a reservation.
  5. Was there more to the tirade than "one per table?" I just bought one the other day -- my very first groupon. I was also wondering why they had that stipulation, because every time I've gone there, I just pay for my check separately at the front counter, and the people I'm with pay for theirs separately. Or has the payment situation changed?
  6. Hi folks, I didn't get a chance to try these recommendations ... YET. It turns out Tuesday's final choice was Radius pizza from Mt. Pleasant. That was our driver's point of origin. However, this dinner is a recurring event, so I am sure to make use of your suggestions in the future -- likely starting with Pizzaiolo. Again, all the feedback was greatly appreciated.
  7. Terrific. These responses are greatly appreciated.
  8. Hello everyone, I'm looking for some take out options for a dinner Tuesday evening. The location is a house near the Braddock Road Metro station, so the Old Town and Del Ray areas are well within reach. Probably pizza is the safest bet, but we're certainly open to other worthwhile options. There will be a party of 5 or 6. Thanks for your time and attention.
  9. They have an event planned there for Thursday, looks like free drinks: http://www.gregslistdc.com/event/2010/whats-deal-free-open-bar-happy-hour
  10. On Monday nights, shouldn't the price of y be no more than the $7 of y+z? Essentially Don had three orders of the $7 y+z with two instances of "hold the z."
  11. I forgot to follow up on this. I did have a Korean speaker call, but due to miscommunication between us, I also called in English and I believe that alone would have been sufficient. They told me that they don't take reservations on Saturdays, but they do have a day-of list you can call ahead for (a la Ray's the Steaks). They seated my large party very soon after we arrived and it ended up being a very pleasant experience for a birthday dinner. (The crowds might have been reduced due to bad weather that day, though.) We had a total of 11 people. Also, they have a back room now that I don't seem to remember from before.
  12. Yes, it took me a while to follow up, but I thought I'd share some photos from Abattoir for the record. Here we have the steak tartare, confit of mushrooms, pork chop, burger (made with beef AND pork), and burger interior.
  13. The Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld is airing on Fox 5 right this minute.
  14. Does Ray's have a crab quota in its cups of bisque? They have always been very generous, but on a visit two Sundays ago, the ratio was insane -- the cup was about 60-70% percent crab. Here is a $5 cup of the most delicious soup on Earth, and my helping contained more crab than most restaurants' crabcake dinners. It's great to see the flat iron on the menu. This was my first time eating Ray's version and it didn't disappoint. I wonder if they can do other preparations besides the bourbon/molasses glaze?
  15. Well the update on Seasons 52 is at least pleasant to hear. I've also received intelligence that there's a Five Guys in the vicinity. (Another chain, yes, but when you're going to be in the same place for over a week, a reliable lunch spot is nice to fall back on.) Thanks for the input.
  16. Wow, 1 year hiatus for this thread. Is there anything new to report on the Orlando scene? My parents are headed to the area and charged me with finding them places to eat. Anything but super-high end would be good. They've even talked about a drive to the east coast, to Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach -- and are frustratingly having a difficult time locating a reputable seafood place so close to the ocean. Thanks for reading!
  17. Restaurant Week here was great tonight. I needed quick and casual, and the bar area provided just that. The lobster agnolotti first course was terrific with two or three tasty bites of lobster tucked into each pillow. The cod, my main course, was seasoned and done perfectly. And the desserts were definitely noteworthy. The top layer of the banana panna cotta was one of the finest chocolate products I've ever tasted.
  18. We ended up at Willow. It turned out they were still doing Restaurant Week. I had initially thought that maybe I'd do some of the bar menu items plus something from the regular menu, but with RW you had to do the full three courses -- which I ended up doing. Fantastic stuff.
  19. They do sell them at the P Street location (or at least they did circa August 2009). They may not always have them in stock, as it was hit or miss for me as well there for a while. But they're in the spot you'd expect, in that ethnic foods aisle by the other Indian stuff.
  20. Thanks for the replies so far! I hadn't seen the pictures on the Willow website -- it looks like it will suit my needs. It's always good to have a backup, too.
  21. Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a place to have a relatively quick (less than 90 mins) casual dinner tonight in the Ballston area. It seems like there are an awful lot of chains over there. Right now my first instinct is to eat at the bar at Willow (I've never been). Are there are any other options? It should be pretty close to the Ballston Common Mall (for example, Clarendon would be too far away). I guess I have two follow up questions. 1) If I did go to Willow, what's the bar area like? Is it just some seats along the bar, or are there smaller tables in that section, too? 2) Are there any Thai places in the vicinity worth going to? Thanks for your time and attention!
