kdhayes
There's a sign-in. I have a (free!) Kimpton account because of work travel, but anyone can grab it. In the restaurant I still have yet to determine, but in the bar, it's fast as sin -- and way more reliable than many other places tried. If you go to the Kimpton website and become a Kimpton In Touch member (free) you will be able to connect (for free) at any Kimpton property after an initial sign in. That's what I meant about "anyone can grab it" -- i.e., anyone can sign up. I just happened to have had mine already due to work travel. :-) You can also do this while at a Kimpton hotel without being "on" other WiFi. I'm sure that's not unique, but it's helpful if you forget to do it prior to arrival.

FunnyJohn
As noted upstream, Murky Coffee had wi-fi and Northside Social still has it. Does anyone have any further info on whether there is an Arlington Co. wi fi project?

bookluvingbabe
I have never gotten a Cosi connection to work consistently. Corner Bakery usually has good wifi. Bethesda is supposed to have wifi downtown but again, I can't get it to work on my little netbook. Trying to think where else I've perched to work lately... Edited: Bread and Brew in Dupont. DonRocks
Thought I'd revive this thread for updates on restaurants with wifi? I have a few to add to the list above: Proof Liberty Tavern Iota (need password) While I wouldn't feel comfortable pulling out a laptop at some of these places, I have a new mini ipad that I'm looking forward to using while dining solo. I am *constantly* looking for places that have WiFi, and these recent additions are helpful. However, anything else people have to add would be extremely useful to me personally - not just for mid-day work, but for dinner meetings. Informality is fine, but Starbucks is not where I want to be having dinner, y'know? Any others? (I'll compile a Master List once we get a few more posts.) Wow, Leigh's list above really is amazing. darkstar965
Some coffee shop updates to add to the few already on the list: - Dolcezza gelato/coffee shops definitely have encrypted wife at Georgetown, Dupont and in Bethesda. I assume the new location at Mosaic in Merrifield does also but didn't confirm that when I visited for the first time a week or two ago. - Filter Dupont has wifi (can't recall if password protected but think so) whereas the foggy bottom/downtown location near World Bank does not. - Quartermaine in Bethesda Row has wifi with 2-hour password access granted with purchase. Know the other location in North Bethesda has wifi but not sure if it's the same system for encryption - Blind Dog Cafe in Shaw has wifi with password provided - MIsha's in Alexandria has wifi; again I think encrypted - Kafe Bohem (Ledroit Park) : wifi with password - The Coffee Bar (Shaw): wifi with password - Baked and Wired (Georgetown): no wifi Boo :-( - ME Swings (Foggy Bottom/downtown): wifi; not sure about password - Juan Valdez (by World Bank): wifi; not sure about password; has been awhile - Barnes & Noble Cafe (Bethesda; maybe/probably whichever other locations): Open wifi (no password) - Illy Cafe (West End): think the wifi is open here (no password) but not sure - Lot38 Espresso Bar (Navy Yard): yes on wifi; not sure about password Still a bunch more around town but those off the top of my head for now.
