American Flatbread, Broadlands - Closed

I'm no statistician, but I would venture a guess that most of the populace would consider a $19 pizza a luxury item. I cannot wait to try it (and I'll get the BBQ pizza, too), but in order for a minimal service restaurant to succeed (six pizzas, $2 can sodas, draught root beer, some beer/wine, no take-out, dinner only), they're going to need a lot of volume. I wish them well. -
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT Please refrain from using debit cards in restaurants, whenever possible. If a server accidentally authorizes your card for an incorrect amount, incorrect check, whatever, the bank will hold these funds for usually 2-3 business days. If such a thing happens with a Credit Card, the charge drops from your account before you even notice. If it occurs with a DEBIT CARD, you will be missing these funds from your account until the bank drops the authorizition.

Am I alone in thinking that it was unnecessary to take the leftovers to a butcher? Seems to me his reasons for not enjoying the ribs were sufficient, and the butcher "evaluation" was just piling on. I worry that the competition to be noticed as a critic is pushing things in an ugly direction.

The answer is 11. I am available for dinner Friday.

Does that make it better, or worse? Just wondering.

I just got the paper to find a whole article on pork belly.......ummmmm.....pork belly. I haven't read it yet but the mere fact of its existence tells me things are looking up at WaPo Foods.

This is making me woozy. I guess I never even saw the Champagne Room! I knew there were some couches to the left of the bar (as you face it), but had no idea there was a whole 'nother room. Looks like I need to go back and reacquaint myself!

Welcome hmmmboy! I'm eating lunch there tomorrow and if I get sick, it'll surely be because of too much vino. -
I nhad the rabbit leg wrapped in proscuitto last week for lunch and it was excellent. A pocket of thyme was tucked between the bone and the meat, with the proscuitto skin perfectly crisp, the meat juicy and flavorful. It was served on a bed of lentils topped with a thin layer of potato gratin. My meal was stellar!

Everyone shouyld read Dave Sedaris's (is this proper apostrophe use?) essay "Today's Special" in the book Me Talk Pretty One Day. it's about the challenges he faces dining in New York: "...where the world's brightest young talents come to braise carmelized racks of songbirds or offer up their famous knuckle of flash-seared crappie served with a collar of chided ginger and cornered by a tribe of kiln-roasted Chilean toadstools, teased with a warm spray of clarified musk oil. Even when they promise something simple, thy've got to tart it up- the meatloaf has been poached in seawater, or there are figs in the tuna salad. If cooking is an art, we're in our Dada phase." He goes on and on about "...skirt steak with a medley of suffocated peaches, but I'm put off by the aspirin sauce." It's four short pages of anti-"foodie" hilarity. PS- There are many "desert" islands- see Cape Verde, Curacao, Bonaire, etc.

Todays Food section is the best I have seen in months. Perhaps I am biased as I love cheese, but I'd love to see more of this.

Restaurant Kolumbia, Final Day Was Oct 27th.

How is it that Chef can appear on the Today Show, yet no one in this city talks about this restaurant except, maybe, us? Not to change topic, but I thought Tom's review of Eamonn's/PX was unnecessary, considering that there are plenty of other full service restaurants in the city that may be more deserving of the spotlight (or a public spanking). This is one of them. *I love the chipper and p/x, I'm just sayin' -
Komi is probably booked. Go to Vidalia. Sit at the bar or I'm sure you could score a table. Chef RJ is killing it.
-
Maybe the big deal restaurant is already closed, and not coming back. Just a thought.

I love the new Komi website. It has a recent menu and just the facts. No flash. No music. Nice.

Is there anything I can feed my dog to quell her chronic halitosis? My dog's breath wakes the dead.

Get the wine pairing. Adam Curling, the new sommelier, used to be the som @ Inn at little Washington and does a wonderful job.
