  1. Have been here twice in the past few months, and both times meals and service were very good. They have a braised pork shank that is excellent, falls off the bone, moist, and very flavorful. One of their special salads this evening included bacon, homemade buttermilk dressing, with onions, grilled romaine and marinated tomato with blue cheese pieces. It was one of the best, more complex salads I have ever had. The paring with a few bottles of one of Joe Wagner's recent compilations was a great touch. They have recently added a banana cotton-candy to their dessert presentation which, along with the banana chocolate bread pudding was perfect. Service and ambiance was special and the place was packed. We also enjoyed a perfectly cooked filet with mashed potatoes and a braised short-rib in reduction which was also extremely flavorful and fell apart on the plate. Perhaps worthy of another trip for the doubters out there, the town of Leesburg and quaintness of the immediate area is a bonus.
  2. Multi-unit deal brings crave-worthy chef-inspired fast casual seafood dishes to the East Coast. I believe the first location will be located at One Loudoun and opening in June. Several locations planned for Reston, Ashburn, Fairfax, Tysons and Merrifield.
  3. Drugs, guns, currency and people are run through the tunnels - it is another component in the smuggling operations which appear to work in combination with the other air, land (above ground), and sea "delivery" methods. I believe the idea that when one method decreased or limited, the other avenues make up for the lack of access. Drones will likely make the process more efficient, but if the security powers that be are not figuring out a way to jam or scramble the radio frequencies used for drone control then we really are &#$*%#. Hard to believe that as quickly as these drones have come to market that someone cannot figure out a way to disable them. I know this is the cause of recent security challenges in US prisons (and abroad) providing cell phones, weapons and drugs to inmates. How have we not out-smarted the technology? I believe the "wall" was an overly simplified way to target the segment of voters & society it resonated with, all under the guise of national security albeit fear. Build a wall, and it will keep all illegal immigrants coming from our Southern border. It would provide jobs for those working on it (installation, design), materials and profit would come from all the concrete/rebar/heavy construction equipment (trucks/dozers/cranes) etc needed to get said materials and forms onsite to build the components and then formulate a wall. I guess the wall becomes another component of our infrastructure which will need to be maintained like our bridges, tunnels (automotive), ports, airports, sewage & water systems, train depots etc, etc etc. I am not sure if I shed light on your original question, however I am sure it may increase the debate here.
  4. Romantic and J Gilberts do not go well together. Eddie V's has live music nightly and the food and service are very good. It can be a little loud, but if a special occasion, I think Eddie V's your choice. You probably want a table on the outer wall (glass) so you can watch the cars sitting in traffic (j/k) in Tysons and all the construction. It is a little farther away from the bar where the live music is, but you can still hear it no problem.
  5. Fairfax County Slams WMATA Over Reston Parking Fees Interesting development concerning parking at Wiehle Metro area. Update as of 1/23/18 - Saturday Parking to Remain Free at Wiehle-Reston East
  6. Is Development Killing Reston Home Prices? I had to chuckle at this headline...although the subject itself is not great.
  7. Depending on what you are trying to do to set her up, assuming maintaining independence/self-sufficiency is primary concern there are a # of alternatives. Life Alert is the most famous ("I have fallen and I can't get up"), and if I recall they may offer a discount off monitoring depending on Homeowners or renters insurance, or AAA or something. Cell phones obviously have tracking mechanisms that can be triggered to keep an eye on her location and programmed (if still driving), so the hand's free option is enabled when in the car making communication pretty easy. Depending on her's and your comfort level, there are a # of camera options that offer two-way communication and timed monitoring or motion-activated monitoring at specific intervals. The advantage of a camera is if someone is moving around in the middle of the night or whenever, it can alert you on your cell phone, laptop or wherever and you can instantly log in and communicate or observe what is going on. These systems can easily be installed as DIY in 45 minutes or less. I used Arlo and they have great wireless (or wired) components you can purchase at Best Buy, Costco or a number of other stores. Good luck out there.
  8. Total Wine is very close to opening a new store in Plaza America in Reston, just off the Toll Road. It is in the location of the Staples store that closed late last year, adjacent to the Starbucks. Since this is a new build-out, hopefully it will be the latest and greatest design. "Now Hiring" signs are up, and as efficient as this company is, someone will be posting soon it is actually open.
  9. So the burger competition has not ceased - and adding MELT to the mix is only helping the cause. Small nondescript storefront in a strip mall off Route 7 on the outskirts of downtown Leesburg, just behind Starbucks. Have been here several times, but most recently today for lunch, it will not disappoint. Service with a smile and open kitchen so you can observe as they cook your meal, made-to-order. Seating is limited only because the place is consistently busy. Check out their menu, rolls/buns baked in house twice daily. If you go hungry you will not leave hungry and the toppings are interesting and encourages on to be adventurous.
  10. Thomas Sweet was a treat, but last two times we ventured there the atmosphere was different. It appears the location (speculation) may have been sold or changed management - the service and selection altered. The product was fine, but portions seemed smaller. Not sure if anyone else has been recently or has any input.
  11. Next time you are in CA...Farrells exists! Check out their Twitter as well.
  12. ....and apparently coming soon to Reston Station. Founding Farmers Close to Opening in Reston Station
  13. Finally made it here for dinner this evening. Service was great, food (and presentation) excellent. From the Greek Salad (or course), to their meatballs to filet, and Moussaka entrees - all were cooked properly and had great flavor. Desserts were another treat with traditional baklava, a special applecake, and Greek custard with Phyllo dough accompanied by Greek coffees. Place was packed by the time we left at 7:45. Bar area is small, as is the restaurant (maybe 50 people max capacity). They are also now open for lunch which is great - parking was the biggest challenge as the lot is small and with other businesses open in the evening, it was challenging to find a spot.
  14. It appears Neyla (formerley Paulos) may have also closed recently, although there is not much to confirm it other than Open Table. Reston Town Center's directory still lists it as active, perhaps another re-branding is in the works?
  15. Sterling Location of Coal Fire opened recently - "Charred to perfection" - have not been there yet.
  16. I believe M&S Grill at RTC is permanently closed - it may be affecting the entire M&S Brand and not just this location. Their website "locations" tab redirects to McCormick and Schmick's website. In any case, this may be another vacant retail location at RTC.
  17. Same story from another source - worth the exposure since this store has been there for almost 30 years.
  18. Johnny Rockets in Brambleton closed 2 weeks ago...apparently it was pretty bad.
