  1. Had no idea that "Leinies" was the accepted abbreviation of Leinenkugel's That Summer Wheat tastes like Fruit Loops. Freakishly.
  2. It's not a short drive from DC, but I'm glad I made it when I did. Great place, and as I've said before, great pork. PS if anybody wants some guanciale, let me know if you have anything worth trading for.
  3. I love when I see a post like this that makes me google at least 2 terms and still come out barely understanding the point
  4. Did you have to put in a special order for this? I wasn't aware that they let this beer out of the Rehoboth brewpub, although I guess they might've relaxed their shipping policies since they have to ship the stuff to the DC and VA brewpubs too, now.
  5. In his defense, he was one of the judges of the competition, not a competitor As for the BLT, I have no idea. We used to do one with pork belly at Rustico, and that's the last one I can recall eating in years.
  6. Still, good to know if there's anything worthwhile in case I'm in the area. And Loose Cannon is definitely worthwhile.
  7. Did you twitter this post? Ha! But yea, good rickeys to be had this evening. I'm finishing up with a Berliner Weisse from Bayerischer Bahnhof: 3%, nice tart edge but without the super-sour that requires adulteration via syrups. This is just delightful on its own.
  8. Combine with Jott for maximal annoyance of dining companions and neighboring tables. The only real benefit I could see coming out of this is as a surrogate for the "On a whim" thread, which seems to have largely gone by the wayside.
  9. Bend Brewing Hop Head Imperial IPA. It's impossible to find out here, but if you ever find yourself in Portland or Bend, ask after it every chance you get. Unbelievably good. Honey-malt and big citrus like in Bell's Two-Hearted but with a nice dose of herbal/piney hops in there too. Hides the 8.7% really, really well. Picked this bottle up in February and it is still drinking splendidly, showing no signs of decline.
  10. Breakfast at the Adams Morgan Tacos Pepitos Bakery (which is now called Super Taco, although the menu is almost exactly the same). Super-sweet lemonade, and a breakfast burrito with "sausage" (what actually seemed to be little grilled bits of hot dog). Meh. Hopefully just an abberation, I've never had breakfast here before. Need to return and see if the sandwiches have suffered. (feel free to move this to a Super Taco thread, I couldn't find one about the AdMo Pepitos location)
  11. They were both very, very sweet. As I have not much of a sweet tooth, I only had one of each, and thus avoided too much of a sugar crash. I think I like the small round ones better, only because the texture was a little disconcerting on the pretzel-looking ones. Flavor was essentially the same in both: big sugar/caramel/honey.
  12. Scrapple at home (somebody left it at my place after a recent party). Zoolbia and Baamieh made by my Iranian co-worker when I got in to the office.
  13. I'm hoping to be there by 6, but we'll see how the workday goes.
  14. Frisco Bar & Grill isn't far off 95 in Columbia, and they have a pretty great tap list if you feel like a beer on the way up. The burrito I had last time I was there was passable (have them grill it) and the regulars were fun to listen to.
  15. Neither of the fino are that impressive or worth the extra $, imho. Haven't gone through the regular ones yet. The chicken livers, although listed in the "sandwiches" section, are just grilled chicken livers. Quite good at medium heat level, but a bit weird by themselves.
  16. Cassoulet - it's not wintertime, but damn that's good stuff. Continues the trend of really-rich-things-that-Eric-eats-at-Central, but sometimes you have to weigh happiness vs calories and come out in favor of happiness. Drinks here are notoriously on point: gin rickey, sloe gin fizz, stone smoked porter on tap, and some PX to finish. Lovely.
  17. "Respect" is not wasting a single, juicy bite.
  18. Something like this? The pigFarm/orchard/brewery/charcuterie dream will have to wait until I move to the suburbs, sadly
  19. I'm casually thinking about making cider in the fall, but the equipment overhead is a bit daunting: all of the purchase-able apple grinder/press setups online are well over $200. Anybody have a setup to do this? Or know some other way to easily extract the apple juice? Although I guess I could just buy non-alcoholic cider and let it ferment, I'd really prefer to do it from scratch.
