  1. This is a huge pet peeve of mine- restaurants that don't answer their phones and don't call back don't deserve my cash. At the high end it's inexcusable, especially in this economy. In some places in particular it's started to feel a bit like LA Story.
  2. I think you mean... ah never mind.
  3. On the mainland we usually find that our salt shakers have more holes than our pepper shakers, but as we honeymoon in Hawaii we keep finding that it's the other way around here. What gives? Any thoughts?
  4. This is a slight aside, but only slight. Robyn and I were at the Home Depot in Chicago (the one on North if you must know) and we saw a woman go up to the food window of the cart thing inside the store and ask for a bag of doritos with nacho cheese poured into the bag. We were hung over already but that made me want to wretch.

Good eats is often just a distillation of This' writing.
  6. Fleur de Lis? If so, I never thought it was good- I got totally rude service there as a single diner.
  7. really? we're going to get into this here? I'm off to eat roasted shark fin on foie.
  8. They may allow you to bring for corkage, but I'd try Sola- it's a favorite of mine. Even if they don't allow you to bring, their list is VERY good and reasonably priced.
  9. I LOVE Red 8 for Chinese (in Wynn). Surprisingly well priced with great food- oxtail soup for example. No Shark Fin soup I don't think, though.
  10. What about something more interesting, Vosges chocolates perhaps?
  11. Ray's the steaks has a parking lot that can often be busy depending on the time of day. I don't believe The Steak's does lunch, but an early dinner should provide you parking and a quick table
  12. You're right- it's easy to trash olives, and I'll even say it's fun, but they have a nice wine list and it's good business dinner entertaining. My only issue with it is how darned expensive it tends to be to eat there.
  13. Not sure about PX, though if you're at Eve, you're drinking Todd Thrasher's cocktails . I know folks who have taken the King street metro there, but depending on time of day that could take a very long time, especially if you need to switch lines. I'm sure the folks at Eve would be happy to call a cab for you should you wish after your meal or after your drinks at PX.
  14. I would think two different blends cause the difference, not the aging?
  15. How's it stored? Liquor in a bottle usually doesn't age... (vermouth and other fortefied wines aside)
  16. All I have to say is that my current insanely hard macroeconomics class is useful if for nothing else than understanding and estimating future exchange rates so as to leverage my ability to buy wine based on the EUR vs USD
  17. Yes, but it wouldn't surprise me in a lot of bars in DC.
  18. I seem to remember it being an option on the 5 course tasting menu a while back but not sure what it is now. When in doubt you could call- they won't be offended.
  19. I'd guess datamonitor has that stuff. PM me if you need some info.
  20. We love our bosch dishwasher- it's incredibly energy and water efficient and gets our stuff very clean. The only dishwasher I've ever liked this much is the Miele that we used in the last place we rented.
