The neutral zone. And I love that Barry wasn't there! -
Question: Why does Iron City beer in its aluminium can seems to defy rarefaction? My guess is that it has to do with the molecular structure; the beer comes colder and stays colder than anything in a glass bottle. So, in turn, it's more difficult to change the pressure of the beer and annoy people with that gusher. Does anyone know the answer? Chemists?

My guess is that there are less congeners in the stuff you were drinking in France. Were you drinking an equal amount of red and white? For the money you drink "better" there and perhaps it had to do with your level of stress at the time.

We need a Don-key to plow through some of these puns.

I hope Open City is somehow alluding to efforts to make this a more free wireless internet city... And to do away with that silly zero tolerance and put meters in our cabs.

Why, Taqueria Poblano is cheap. Margaritas, granted they aren't the best in town, are impossible to beat at $5.95. And you can have a few fish tacos or a duck carnita, etc. as a meal, the total cost way less than a middle of the road place in town. I'm very familiar with Guajillo since it's really close to where I live, and I know that Taqueria Poblano is about half the price and at this point, twice as satisfying. One of the most expensive meals I know at Poblano was with just one other, a scarfing mavin, a desperately hungry gastronome...and still, after eight margaritas between us two and many refills of chips, the bill was shy $80 bucks . Go anywhere else and order 80% of the menu and 7 or 8 cocktails and enjoy for under $ 100.

That's right! NONE. Both houses were completely dark and we even bothered to knock. So, not only did I fail to have a story (until now, I suppose), but we wasted the whole night scouting for candy that wasn't there. That's just one year, though. So, jump in, and now you share some of your favorite candy gathering tales.

I'm sorry, last year I was really into writing about duck confit and fall soups, I swear. I don't even really like candy, but let me lead in with my little story. One year, years ago, The Washingtonian did a story on what kind of treats bigwig Washingtonians were giving out for Halloween. I can't even say for sure if the story ran; I need to figure out what year it was and who was on the full list of houses to visit. It must have been about 1986. Anyway, somehow my crazy dad lined me up as one of the guinea pigs, in theory contributing to the story, knocking on the of door of two well- known Washingtonians (well, in those days more so): William Safire & Dominic F. Antonelli Jr. (a bad ass developer, etc.) I remember that at least one of the houses was exceptionally big and behind some serious gates... There was some unusual hiking invoved and I was growing increasingly skeptical of my dad. So, do you know what kind of candy they gave?

Cafeteria and Sushi Samba are both from NYC, and I had been to Cafeteria already. I like Sushi Samba for what it is, and I like how much sake they have on the menu and all the imaginative and tasty cocktails they have. I actually did end up going there one day last week and had a fine snack and two awesome Mangomentas. Mangomenta 10.00 Finlandia Mango, muddled shiso, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice & splash of orange juice.

Actually, I heard the exact same thing from some locals, there seems to be a lot of buzz. It was merely my own mood that deterred me, but I'm glad to hear it's worth the trip. It's also right down the street from Joe's in case you're vacillating.

"Not really," she said. And when he asked her again, more firmly, she answered that she'd had a glass of wine with dinner at Cafe Milano. Reason #456: No Cafe Milano -
