  1. After trying the "Kobe Carpaccio" last night at CPS, I'm so in.
  2. The sale rumor is back in full force. Word is that the current chef will be buying the place with his brother who will come over from Johnny's to bartend. Anyone able to confirm?
  3. Yup, those folks are welcome too. Also, I could have sworn that I added an x to the "bordeaux" in the subtitle of this thread. Perhaps I exceeded the max. character limit? Hey Mr. Rocks, any chance you can fix that for me?
  4. Seriously, how can we get DC to do the same thing? I just spent some time bumping around RAMW's site and couldn't find any position, one way or the other. I'd think that this would have broad support from restauranteurs who'd like to sell some of their more expensive bottles, anti drunk driving advocates who will applaud the presumed fewer folks on the road that just had to finish that 3rd glass, and all those who enjoy a good glass of vino but hate to order a $15 splash when a whole bottle is such a better value. It wouldn't bother me as much if 1) I lived a little closer to the Metro and didn't drive almost everywhere 2) wines by the glass were priced better 3) half bottle selections were a little more common. What am I missing? It seems to work well in VA and MD, is there real opposition here or has nobody tried to do it yet? Any of you legal eagles out there know part of the DC code that would need to be amended to make this happen? I need a project for the new year. This may be it. Who wants to help?
  5. Woulda worked better if one of the jellies was tobacco...
  6. Not that it matters all that much, but which location were you at? I've found that the DC one often fares better than MD or VA.
  7. Actually, according to the recording yesterday, they will reopen starting with dinner tomorrow (Friday). I tried to stop in yesterday and was foiled as well. Just around the corner, the $20 prix fixe (2 course) at La Bergerie was a fine substitute.
  8. Update on Fran's from the Washington Business Journal. They are slated to move to McLean, into the space previously occupied by Amerigo's. Status of the dinners for the wounded servicemen is unclear at this point.
  9. So for the non-parents (or non peanut allergy familiar) out there like me, just to clarify, let me get this right. In some schools parents are prohibited from sending a pb&j sandwich in a lunch for their own non-allergic child? I understand not sending a treat to share with the whole class, but how does one child eating his own sandwich endanger anyone else? I guess it could be used as a weapon against a kid with a known allergy, but really? Are some allergies that sensitive that someone can't be in the same room as the object of their affliction? What are the physics of that? Forgive my ignorance, I just don't know how these things work. Also, I was that kid that only ate PB (no jelly for me) sandwiches for 12ish years. Thank God that phase is over now, but I still dig me some skippy and ritz crackers on a frequent basis.
  10. Anyone have info about this place? I got a note from Opentable.com today and they have a basic info page, but not much else. Last time I walked by (a week or two ago) the Ortanique sign was still out.
  11. Not always though, in '04 the Lab was a 4* joint.
  12. And here we go! First thing that jumps out to me is *** to Jaleo....
  13. I'm now free, so I'm in +1. Will bring a case of water.
  14. Anyone have a lead on how to land some more Vahine Vanille Creme liquor? I brought a bottle back from the honeymoon to Moorea 2 years ago and am down to my last glass tonight. Stored in the fridge and served over a couple of ice cubes, it's a pretty nice way to wind down in the evening. (This has been one of the few times when the internet machine has failed me. All I can find is other folks looking to track this stuff down.)
  15. Not a can, but any thoughts on how long past the exp. date (6/28/06 in this case) I could keep bread machine instant mix? I know it's got a packet of yeast included, but there are handy instructions on their website on how to test the yeast if it's still good. Any thoughts on if any of the other stuff in the box would go bad/grow bugs/etc? Thanks.
  16. If a pirate's favorite color is arrrrrange And a pirate's favorite socks are arrrgyle What's a pirate's favorite fast food joint?
  17. Glad to hear that I'm not totally losing my hearing! Anyone want to speculate on what the next *** place will be?
