  1. Oh, I don't doubt it, but that comes with fries. But seriously, I worked at a Fridays for about three months right around Y2K, (and yes, I am ashamed to admit it.) I wouldn't, and haven't, set foot in one of those cesspools since. Again, I am not complaining about Ray's Hell. I just thought that some pricing info could be helpful, and I didn't do the math as I was placing my very minimalist (I'm a purist) order. I wouldn't tip the sacred cow, I'd eat it! I'll see you in Hell, Shehamforash!
  2. Dim Sum we usually get out for about $50, and we eat a lot, Pho usually runs about $30-40. Other than that, we don't eat out much I guess... Aha, I added bacon, (which, by the way was a little flabby. I like my burger bacon crispy.) that makes it $9.50 I'm really not complaining. It was a bit of a shock, as I said it adds up quickly. For me, because I appreciate it, $11.50 for a burger and soda is ok. For my kids, who didn't appreciate or eat it, not so much. They prefer McDonalds, (SHOCKER!)
  3. Took the family here on Saturday night. I had the Diablo as recommended, and can honestly say this is probably the best burger I have ever had (in a restaurant). However, My kids didn't like theirs, (admittedly they are kids and don't have great taste in food). Uh, I don't want to come off like a penny pincher, but, I thought it was a little pricey. It adds up quickly. $1 for cheese, $1.50 for bacon, (I will skip it next time, as the burger needs no porky enhancement and it was kind of lost to the HUGE patty)... little 12 ounce soda for $2 (kids can drink these quite quickly BTW). so for the 4 of us, 4 burgers, 5 sodas, just shy of $60. I will be back, just not as often as I would like, (and without the kids, sorry kids). Oh, I didn't have any soggy bun problems, and I didn't even do my usual trick of putting the lettuce on the bottom. Also, you don't need a lot of topping on this burger, lettuce, tomato and cheese are quite sufficient. I'm making myself hungry... Maybe it is worth the price tag.
  4. At this point, you could just add pizza joints, wine bars, sushi restaurants, fine dining, tapas, Italian, French, Spanish, German, aioli, Locavore, foodie, and all consumption of food and beverages. Not trite: Molecular Gastronomy? Where does it end...
  5. Interesting article from the BBC... New pizza laws are going into effect. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7435480.stm
  6. Obelisk, Pizzeria Paradiso*EDIT* (Perhaps too much time has passed for me to recommend the latter)... Uh, can't think of any more right now.
  7. It's usually available in asian markets or at El Grande Supermercado. Got a couple spots out here in the 'burbs..
  8. Just got back from lunch at the Pupatella food cart. I gotta say, they are making some good food over there! The arancini were great, very close to the real deal, al dente, little spicy, peas, and soy meat. The soy meat was pretty convincing as the real thing, although, if I am not mistaken, in Naples it is usually stuffed with saucy ground pig organs, (YUM!). Anyway, great food and nice people. I will be back! p.s. considering the oven, the margherita with buffalo was pretty darn good too. I've had worse at local pizzerie.
  9. Ah, but it is all to easy for anonymous dickweeds (whatever happened to that thread) with some sort of grudge to bear, or who know what, to come on these forums, sign up and immediately slam a rival, ex-lover, former employer, or whomever. A while back there was a poster named Juventino. They were taking cheap shots at me about some pizza tastings I had done for a personal acquaintance, oddly enough, they had not even tasted the pizza. (well, maybe some cold, half eaten leftovers...) Still don't know who it was, even after inquiring in a personal message. They haven't been posting lately. Strange. I wouldn't be surprised if the Thirsty Bernie thing was of the same nature. Anyway, everything written here needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. It is a great forum, but it is not the final word.
  10. Probably clotted blood. The surrounding meat could be "off" because of bruising.
  11. Went to high school on MDI, (closest McD was in Ellsworth, about 20 Minutes away from Bar Harbor). Had the Lobster roll thing once. I wouldn't call it a treat. Mostly surimi and Mayonnaise. However, if they could do the Maine RED hot dogs...
  12. Had lunch here today. None of the "fritture" were on the lunch menu? The vegatali misti appetizer was good except that the summer squash was mostly seeds. The pizze were not great. The dough had the proper saltiness, but no char, under cooked on the bottom and strangely fermented/proofed, as in under. I had tried to go yesterday for lunch and jokingly commented, after finding out they were closed, "maybe their dough didn't rise." Seems like I may have been right. I would go so far as to say that based on my experience, every single pizzeria mentioned in todays Washington Post would be a better bet. However, the place is pretty, the oven is interesting, (silly. rotating floor, geez.) and you can see the potential in the pizze and the 2 salads that were available today. I think with time it will be better. *Edit* I almost forgot, the guy with the spiky hair and acne that dropped off our pizze, (not our waiter) called me senora as he put the plate down. I could be mistaken but I think that he was calling me a woman... Luckily I didn't pick up the tab or pay the tip.
  13. It's cool! I guess smoked mozzarella will be appearing on your pizze soon?
  14. Beef jerky has also gone down an ounce or two for the same$
  15. Sorry to double post. I thought of 2 more places. http://www.elglop.com/ and if you want an amazing view, and to spend a lot of money in an elegant dining room; http://www.torredealtamar.com/
  16. If you go to Botafumero, make sure you have the percebes (goose neck barnacles). Also, make sure to stop in at La Caleta De Gracia. http://lacaletadegracia.com/ The best food for the $$ in Barcelona.
  17. I will be making a few pizze in the early afternoon tomorrow, in Sterling at the World cup Polo game, (Italy vs. USA). I made some dough today with a couple different kinds of flour, (alla palla, for crispy, and alla napoletana 00) Not my favorite flour and the conditions for the mixing were less than stellar. Will be using a gas fired oven that should really be burning wood. Anyway, it should be interesting. If it's not totally a disaster and frustrating, it should be fun. If you are at the match, come on by and say, "Hi"
  18. 2Amys would probably slip the kid some cookies or bread, if you are nice.
