  1. I believe this is the truck by the folks at Satay Sarinah. Or, at least, they have a truck.
  2. Cool! Thanks for letting us know. And I suppose I should ask for my girlfriend, any word that signifies "vegan"? Because too many times in a SE Asian restaurant, vegetarian has included fish sauce, say. (Though those could have been lazy chefs...)
  3. One thought I've had about this is that the "j" is a pepper symbol that whatever PHP, etc. script they are using to make their menu page didn't pick up. Perhaps it expects "j" and they gave "J"? I know I've seen text-based online menus that use "j", "jj", etc. for heat.
  4. FYI, in the Fairfax Super H-Mart a new food stall has opened: King Kong Mandoo. They sell both the small mandu as well as the big wang mandu (like baozi). Indeed, they are giving one away for free right now. And let me say, it was dang good and only $2 when not free! They sell the regular mandu steamed or frozen and if the wang mandu was anything to go by, they'll be quite good!
  5. Huzzah and kudos to Antonio. Probably won't be settled in yet for my sister's visit in a couple weeks, but I'll be sure to head over when his stamp is on the menu!
  6. Huh. Surprises me. I'd have thought kaiten sushi was a great fit for a place like a train station. You can get food quick, lots of variety. Ah well.
  7. Just a notice to all my fellow Sumo Fruit (aka Dekopon) fans that their rather brief season (a month, maybe) is upon us. H Mart has the boxes of 7 a la many other boxed fruits you find at Korean markets for $19. Whole Foods (Fair Oaks, at least) has them loose for $3/lb. these are roughly the same price, I think. I just bought 6 of them and it will be a struggle not to come back tomorrow to buy even more and stockpile them!
  8. They had máché at Whole Foods in Fair Oaks. In the plastic tubs near the other tubs o' lettuce.
  9. I know I've seen some at Whole Foods, or Mom's, or maybe H-Mart. I'm hitting up a couple of those today, so I'll take a look.
  10. I love to get the cuí±apes at Pan American Bakery & Grill at Van Dorn and South Pickett. Love that sort of "squeaky" feel that a good cuí±ape or pí£o de queijo has.
  11. Indeed, I didn't know if it was open yet or not. Maybe this Friday I'll have to stop by and try out the cuisine!
  12. Bah and humbug, I say! Give me some good ol' fashioned Boraxo soap and a cloth roll towel dispenser! (Aside: I actually do always have some Boraxo at home. Just seems to clean my hands the best...)
  13. Well, it's not cayenne, but Taza has Chipotle Dark and Guajillo disks. What might be interesting is to do a tasting of hot chocolates made from their "one of everything" sampler. Well, almost everything, as it doesn't have the coffee, salted almond, or spiked eggnog. Ugh...spiked eggnog chocolate. *shudder* Now, orange? Salted almond? I might go for those...
  14. This would be Ní³i Síríus, one of my favorites. They have a few grades, a 33% milk, a 45%, a 56%, and a 70% I think. I tend to like the 56% the best of all of them. Just the right amount of bitterness for me.
  15. If you are a Mozartkugeln fan and cheap like me, the best time of the year is around Christmas at World Market. They sell Reber's for half the cost of what they usually are in more specialty markets. Unfortunately, that's the only time they seem to have them.
  16. I do not wish to disabuse Anna Phor of her notion because I often think the same thing. That said, if you want to know why "sport"...
  17. Just in case anyone is wondering, or happens by this thread in the future, Great Wall does indeed have wheat starch. It's in aisle 5 near the front of the store.
  18. If you were to find it, you could start by inquiring at one of the Persian restaurants in town. A couple I can think of that seem to have ice cream on the menu are Friends Kabob and Parsian. If they don't know, maybe one of the markets like Sauson or Iran Sara (a review says they have Persian ice cream)?
  19. It looks like the newest Zojirushi model (SM-KHE36/48) has a "SlickSteel" interior...whatever that is. Others, like this and this (built in tea filter!), have a non-stick coated interior. My guess is the quality of the steel and finish (nonstick or not) can be a big reason for a steel-y taste or not (or whether the person filled it with acidic salt water or something).
  20. As an addendum, the folks at The Sweethome (best-of-home compatriot of best-of-tech The Wirecutter) currently call the Zojirushi Stainless Mug the best travel mug.
  21. Sounds like you might have a stainless-steel-lined thermos. Those generally perform the best, but I've heard people sometimes complain about a metallic aftertaste. The solution that comes to mind would be to try out a glass-lined thermos. They may not hold heat as well, but they shouldn't impart much of a taste. Other pros: they are usually the "cheap" thermos bottles (compared to stainless); other cons: they are more fragile.
  22. Well, that could be a tangelo, I suppose. Cara cara also taste like that to me sometimes. Thinking on this, it's time for two of my favorite citrus fruits: ugli and dekopon (aka Sumo). I haven't seen them yet, but when I do...watch out!
  23. At the moment I tend to go to Enat more than Meaza mainly because I always order the vegetarian sampler, and I think Enat does a better one (more variety). As I rarely order the meat dishes, I can't really say about those. But, you say that ambiance is secondary to taste, but do you actually want some ambiance? Because Enat is, essentially, a sports bar. A sports bar that serves food, yes, but a sports bar. Meaza actually feels more like a restaurant (and has a bit better parking situation, not much better, but anything is better than Enat's).
  24. Back when I was a kid, we once went to the Flagstaff House in Boulder and the wine list was immense (2000 wines or something). Sadly, I went back a couple years ago and they'd replaced it with an iPad wine list. I was so looking forward to that huge hunk of paper... Wow...that's like Vegas obnoxious.
