  1. Interested yes, but sadly it's a bit impossible for me to get there from NASA Goddard (Greenbelt) for lunch. Maybe I can borrow a rocket? That said, please let us know what you have as maybe I"ll go there on the weekend to try out some dish I haven't had yet solo!
  2. I was reminded I hadn't posted any reaction or pics about this meal. It was quite good and well worth the price. First up was, in my opinion, the star of the menu: Blue, Parmesan, and Gruyere Cheese Souffle by Fortran, on Flickr Really, this was seriously good. Had an intense blue cheese flavor. I don't see it on the Del Ray or La Bergerie menus, but it *needs* to be on one of them. So I can go and order it every day. Next up, and not quite as blurry as it looks were the scallops. Quite good: 10/20 Diver Sea Scallops with a Truffle Sauce by Fortran, on Flickr Then came the veal: Veal and a Tarragon Mousse by Fortran, on Flickr This was good too, though I'm not the biggest veal fan. Still, I would not say no to it again. I believe there were more truffles in the drizzle which always is a plus! The tarragon mousse was...different. A very earthy flavor. I think I'd need to try it again to be more precise. And finally, a very light and delicious crepe for dessert: Strawberry and Cream Crepe by Fortran, on Flickr Not pictured was some very good bread and butter. All in all, a great success and great kudos to Escoffier for organizing it!
  3. Another new restaurant is Kogiya which is yet another barbecue place. Haven't heard much about it yet (opened the last few days, I think). Looking at their menu it's fairly standard stuff, though they do have duck, which seems a bit rarer than usual. (Then again, maybe I don't go to the right places.) They also have ogyeopsal (5-layer pork belly) which, I believe, is like the usual samgyeopsal (3-layer pork belly) but with an extra layer of fat and the skin. Then again, they also have "marinated fatty pork skin" which sort of moves one to the good stuff in my mind. Duck and pork skin sounds like a good dinner to me!
  4. This would be daegu jiri. In my (admittedly limited, so far) tour of Annandale Korean restaurants, it seems to be rather less represented compared to the spicy version, daegu maeuntang. I much prefer the mild version, and To Sok Jip's version doubly so. Much like Kibbee Nayee and darkstar965, I'd like to add my thanks to grover and Escoffier for the event. So much great food for the price, and getting to try To Sok Jip's version of dishes I've had elsewhere. And, I have to say, I think their versions were usually superior. I might have to redouble my efforts to try and find lulls in the restaurant's usual busy schedule (it's always full...).
  5. Huge thanks from me, too. It was a great, insightful tour. Definitely got to see more than the usual Capitol Tour as well as learned a *lot* more. Great job by our guide and big ups to LauraB for the organization.
  6. Well, for "other" meats in Denver, the places to go are (or were, I suppose) usually Buckhorn Exchange and The Fort. They often have various game available, though that might depend on the season. And, I guess, technically Biker Jim's Dogs is also a place for game. Looking at the latest menu, he's got elk, boar, rattlesnake & pheasant, and reindeer dogs available. They're at 22nd and Larimer near Coors Field.
  7. Well, it's the variety. Many Ethiopian places you get the vegetarian sampler and you get three or four, maybe five different dishes. Here you get three or four with different lentil preparations, a couscous, shiro, beets (mmm!)...and some I can't identify!
  8. Does to me. There are some places I'll get veggies and some I won't.
  9. As near as I can tell, to get two adult tickets at Tysons Corner at around 2:25 PM costs $20 (hover over, say, the 2:20 PM time for "Stand Up Guys"). Frankly, I don't mind paying an extra $1 per ticket for reserved seats plus the ability to avoid Tysons Corner Center. Same for "late" shows (after 4 PM) where the difference is $12 v $13. Now on the weekends, the matinees are better at Tysons Corner since they do $6 pricing everyday compared to Angelika which does it only on Mon-Thurs.
  10. I was there as well. I will say it was pretty staggering the difference between the store-bought brands (Thomas, et al) and the actual bagel places. I was also pleasantly surprised that Main Street did so well. It's not much of a place, really, but I've liked stopping in there for a bagel when I'm in Fairfax (City). Now I need to try Goldberg's some Sunday when I'm near it.
  11. Ooh...To Sok Jip? I'm in. Of course, knowing To Sok Jip, I think you, me, and Grover...we just about fill the place.
  12. I'd love to go! Can I be a tentative +1, as I think my girlfriend would love to come too. (I'll check with her tomorrow morning.)
  13. There is also all-vegan Loving Hut in Falls Church. I go there quite often and I like it (their club sandwich is surprisingly yummy). And if you like Ethiopian, Enat's vegetarian entrees are vegan since they cook them in corn oil. I highly recommend the vegetarian sampler.
