I suppose the logical (ultimate) extension to this is then using the Speculoos Cookie Butter from Trader Joe's inside. A cookie with cookie paste in. I would probably destroy Pinterest were I to do that.

My sister wants to know if she can substitute peanut butter for the Nutella filling. I might have to try that...

Coinstar machines will not charge a fee/percentage if you get a "gift card" instead of cash. That is, when I turn in my change jar soon, I'll go to a coinstar machine and get the full value in Amazon credit. I'm sure their site has a list of their merchants. (Often they have "specials" where you get an extra, say, $10 of credit with $50 of change. Last I saw was for toysrus.) Or you can try your bank. I know my credit union has a machine in one branch for counting change.

Looks like it's turning Mexican. Well, this is DC, so we'll have to see if it's Salvadorean-Mexican, or Bolivian-Mexican or...

String hoppers was the dish I wanted to try the most if I was able to come. One day Saravana Palace had some on their buffet and I just loved them. Glad to hear Shakthi has a good rendition.

Well, I've seen "lye water" at Chinese markets before. I think it's used for noodles. A quick search around the net someone said if you dilute it 5x, it's about equivalent to pretzel-dip strength...but that's the internet saying that. Frankly, I had too much "experience" with NaOH as a chem student to want it near me in a kitchen. Nasty stuff.

About the closest I get to "cheese food" on a regular basis is Petit Suisse...and I'm not sure how that's classified in America. I mean, it's cheese, but it's centrifuged...and I like the fruit-flavored versions. (And, yes, I know your supposed to pop the wee cylinder from the package, but I just eat it like a luxurious Activia straight with a spoon.)

Actually, it's bigger than that. I think it's roughly the 8-qt family cooker here or here. The one I bought has the older valve style and was styled as a "Hotel" cooker. I think this model is the "not as tall" 5-qt version of mine. I got mine as an NIB model from eBay, probably old-stock so I didn't pay nearly as much as newer, fancier versions.

I'm a fan of my Kuhn-Rikon too. I have the more wide/shallow model so I can fit a full-size springform pan in...which is nice. Mmm...cheesecake.

I'm struggling to not head there this afternoon and order a plate of jokbal all for myself. The Koreans know how to do trotters, in my opinion.

I'll confirm tonight once Dino opens (unless there is a better time to do so, Dean?). -
Jason, You have some Caramelia? Mmm. Does your Mosaic location usually have some? I'm asking...for a friend. Also, since Caramelia is a Valrhona product, have you tried that new "blond" chocolate they're promoting? Seems sort of like halfway between white and the caramelia.

I think I'd liked to come (most likely as a +0). I don't think I have anything on that night! -
And, of course, the word/color "orange" is named after the appearance of the ripe fruit. Now I want an orange!

Guess we know what Don wants as a gift... (Offtopic-ish: apparently Valrhona has an Advent Calendar...much more tempting than the usual $2 versions.)

Trader Joe's sells (or has sold) some stone-ground chocolate which has that grainy, Abuelita-like texture and I have been known to snack on them.

I am a big fan of Ní³i Síríus chocolate from Iceland, especially the 70% bar when I want some dark chocolate.

Don't forget the Sipping Chocolate!

There website is at http://shakthicuisine.com/ and the menu looks pretty good. Haven't had string hoppers in a while, and I've never had a jack fruit dish that sounds like polos pehi. Might need to make a trip!

American Cuisine in Foreign Countries

Looking around the web, that appears to be "Acqua al 2" which has a branch in DC, and seems to even have that dish: -
I've eaten here a few times and liked it. I usually get their bhindi masala and it's a good version. Not as "saucey" as some versions I've had, and I like that. Not too spicy either, but I usually ask for it to not be too spicy! Their palak chaat is quite yummy as well, though I'm not a big fan of mango which they include (well, I'm not a big fan of mango, in truth).

According to Jessica Sidman in the City Paper, 100 Montaditos is now open. The menu (PDF) looks like it might be interesting to try, though no need to take my vegan girlfriend! Just because I got a bit bored, looks like it'd be $167.50 before tax to order each of the 100 montaditos. Someone out there will do it...will it be you?! (Though, that would get a bit boring as many are just slightly different: X, X w/Y, X w/Y&Z...)
