  1. Going to check out Proof this weekend for the b-day, but could only get in at 5:30. So I figure, after enjoying a meal and some wine at Proof, we'd walk around a bit and then get some dessert. Any suggestions in the area? So far I've come up with: PS7 IndeBleu Central Cafe Atlantico (just there a few weeks ago) We are definitely into the more "fun and adventurous" dessert category, however I wouldn't say no to an outstanding and well executed straightforward dish either. Thanks for the advice!
  2. Does anyone have any recommendations for how to cook a BBQ style pork shoulder in an oven? I'd love to smoke/grill cook the thing, but can't in my apartment. Previously I've used the Michael Mina pulled pork recipe - decent, but not quite what I'm looking for. Thanks!
  3. Nice! Just picked up a nice pork shoulder for this weekend and was thinking about making some bbq sauce to accompany it. Perhaps I'll have to make more than one =p
  4. Can any DC regulars recommend a good lunch spot near I St. NW and 17th where I can get something good for ~$10-15 ($20 max)? I am somewhat tempted to make a meal of sides at BLT (or get the burger) since everything else is well over my price range. Any other good spots within a few blocks or so? I'm pretty much open to any type of cuisine.. Thanks!
  5. I didn't even realize they had gelato.. after being burned by Cafe Gelato down the street, I've been going to Dolcezza for my fix. But this would be much more convenient. Anyone???
  6. Keep us updated! I had a nice dinner at the RC in Bethesda, but work in Friendship Heights. Would love a new lunch spot nearby.
  7. Not sure if it's any busier (ie louder) now, but I would second Pizza Zero. I personally wasn't super-impressed, but my two companions enjoyed their meal. Not the best value, but certainly cheaper than say Dino.
  8. For what it's worth: I had lunch at M Cafe (downstairs) and was not overly impressed. However, I have had two co-workers both eat at Famoso (upstairs) and say the food was excellent. Personally, I'm interested in going to Famoso for lunch (all they are offering for Bethesda/CC RW), however so far I haven't been able to get them to send me a copy of their RW menu.
  9. Thanks for the review CG... after reading the previous posts on Farrah Olivia I was starting to think about cancelling and finding another option, but guess we'll give it a shot. Any of the Wednesday diners have reports?
  10. I will be doing Farrah Olivia as well.. anyone know if they're offering the full menu?
  11. man! that bombomCarmelo sounds good. Any updates on possible retail space or visits to other farmer's markets??
  12. Well hopefully they've gotten things settled down in the kitchen and have upped the quality. The cured meat sandwich was pretty good. Oh, I did try the mozerella (supposedly made in-house) last week. Now *that* was great. Good flavor and the texture was very soft, almost like burrata.
  13. Ditto to that.. wish we could have taken home a bag of the lambchopper ones as well. We also tried the chevre variation, which we noted that at least at "room" temperature, the textures of the cheese and pao's seemed to be almost too similar. However, once warmed up, it would probably be an entirely different story.. drool.
