  1. Dean - any ideas of how long the white truffle supply will last? Not this batch, but just in general? Might have a special occasion in a few weeks so just checking out the options.. thanks!
  2. Give a call to Neiman Marcus or Saks, one of them used to carry F&M tea. Hopefully the US site doesn't go down as I am running low on the FortMason blend =(
  3. Okay here are my thoughts (based on memory, so sorry if I missed any details). Overall thought it was pretty good, minus a few misses below. Smoked tomato, crab tofu soup - Nice tomato flavor, went nicely with the crab. Didn't really pick up too much smokiness however (if that is what you are looking for). Ham flatbread - This was a miss for me. The dressing on the greens was great and with the goat cheese may have been more enjoyable. However the ham was exceptionally tough and chewy, and to me didn't really meld with the rest of the flavors. Crab won ton rolls - Tried this since it sounded interesting, however wasn't really that impressed. To me it tasted mostly just like cream cheese. Calamari - probably one of the favorites of the night. the breading wasn't the best I've had, but decent. However the sauce and side "salad" with mint/cilantro made this dish for me. Meatballs - another nice dish, very flavorful and moist meatballs. Can you taste that it is Kobe beef? Personally I can't, but it was tasty so whatever. (As a general thought, personally I think it is more of a menu buzzword than anything.) Crispy chicken wings - I wouldn't say crispy, since they were not. However the flavor of the wings was quite nice. Pork belly taco - I think the ratio of bun to meat was fine for me, although the bun was a bit slimy on the bottom (maybe needs a different plating). Not the most flavorful pork belly I've had, but the pickled onion and cilantro add quite a bit. Yucca fries - okay this one I can't really say since I don't think I've had yucca in years. They were very dense and tasted (for lack of better words) almost undercooked/raw. Not sure if this is how it is supposed to be or not. The dipping sauce was tasty regardless. Green tea tres leches - M E H, meh. If anyone tried the green tea cake mix a while back from Trader Joe's, it tasted almost exactly like this but then soaked in what seemed like green tea steeped milk.
  4. Hmmm.. okay seeing this, anyone have a good recipe?
  5. Was at PS7s a few Fridays ago for some drinks and bar snacks. Tried a few of the various cocktails, all quite nice and tasty. As for food, everything was great - the only so-so was the flatbread (walnut/goat something?) that wasn't quite hot and pretty skimpy on the goat cheese. Overall a solid beverage/food experience, the only downside was that the service was pretty slow. To be fair, an order for a bottled beer that went unfulfilled for 10 minutes was comped, but in addition it seemed that the staff attentiveness and execution was lacking any timeliness. At one point we were even offered someone else's tab to settle =p Given that the bar was barely 1/2 full, not sure what the issue was. Having said all that - I'll definitely be back to give it another shot...
  6. Planning to check it out tomorrow - anyone know the extent of food offerings (either breakfast-y and/or lunch items)? Thx!
  7. Hmm I think tobomatic may have been sitting behind us Friday, b/c I seem to recall that flow of dishes (and now kicking myself for not ordering the double cooked pork)! Beef jerky was good - a little heat but not too much. Scallion pancake was pretty good - a bit thicker and more chewey than at A&J. We also tried cold sesame and dan dan noodles. Both were decent, although I swear one was made with spaghetti pasta. If I had to pick I'd put the dan dan ahead of the sesame. Short ribs with sticky rice - not quite what I was hoping for (more like rich braised short ribs) but smaller ribs like at dim sum, but coated in something like small bits of potato or something? Wasn't quite sure what to make of that one. Also had the dumplings with broth - maybe not the best ever, but I think probably among the best I've had in this area so far.
  8. Thx for the updates dean - went a while back, but they didn't have the over the bridge noodles up yet. Will have to take a detour from the usual FullKee dinner and check this out again. OOps, just forgot Sezchuan pavillion is up next - sigh, so many places so few calories.
  9. Went to petworth a little while back - the steak was definitely on the dry side, but the pollo and carnitas were moist and full of flavor. We got take out, but were the only ones in the store... we sat and waited, and were generously given an extra carnitas taco to eat while they packed our food! All the food bubbling away on the tiny stove looked and smelled great - return trip is definitely on the calendar.
  10. I really do want to enthusiastically recommended GSPOT, and based on three meals there (prior tavern), it is a bit easier. However as a local joint, I just can't get past the price/portion ratio. If you just graded the food, I would say it is among the, if not the best, in SS. But given the portion size and prices, it will not be in our regular rotation for going out simply because I can't justify spending that amount of $ in the 'burbs and not being stuffed.
  11. Any updates on the food? Was thinking about mussels this weekend and debating between here or someplace in DC - Belga, Granville Moore, Brasserie Back? I live in downtown SS so somewhat in the middle. Thx!
  12. Any updates on chef, name and/or menu?
  13. any new advice on "secret menu' items at negril? i am hoping to get some good food here this weekend (assuming they aren't closed when I come by for weekend lunch, which has happened the past 2-3 attempts....)
  14. Suhweet! Thanks for posting TedE. Was thinking about trying to get in tonight so the extra seating is a plus. *fingers crossed*
  15. Hey guys - going up to NY in a few weeks and planning out my eating. Joe's had been a potential on the list for xiao long bao, but reading above I guess that is no longer the spot. Any other recommendations? Or just forget xiao long bao and do otherwise. So far on the list is: Caracas Aprea Bar, Tiam Falafel, Momofoku (Noodle bar and/or bakery), Sobaya, Macondo, Boqueria.. any other ideas? Thanks!!
  16. Does anyone know during what hours reservations can be made in (going to call after work but thought I'd ask now..)? Think I'll have trouble trying to get a spot for 4 this Saturday around 7?
  17. Any updates from Philly travelers? Heading up this weekend and hoping to try Osteria, not sure what else tho.. (aside from my customary Capogiro fix)
  18. Thinking about going by today to check it out - just curious, does anyone remember approx. prices? Thx!
  19. Any new updates on opening date/menu?
  20. Has anyone gone to the CounterCulture Friday cupping? Thinking about dropping in tomorrow..
