  1. Xochitl10 needs to try that pizza and report back.
  2. Most have been covered but here's a similar thread. Also, Cookie Sensations by Meaghan Mountford from Bundles of Cookies in Bethesda reviewed/described here.
  3. I don't think the Chocolate Decadence dessert buffet at the Ritz was a good choice for the show because it's not available year round.
  4. The NBC4 news article says he was arrested at PJ Rice Bistro Bar and Sushi at the Westfield Wheaton Mall.
  5. The mini breaded and fried meatballs from Sette Bello's "Italian tapas" section of the menu were really good last night (sometime within the last two months, they streamlined/revised their dinner menu (the pastas used to be in two categories) and added more small plates). It was 6 mini meatballs, each with a thin coating of breading, presented 3 to a skewer and accompanied with a slightly spicy tomato sauce and a small pile of light, crispy, fried onion strings that were surprising in how un-greasy they were. For my main, I had the Perciatelli Amatriciana (for the third time). The thick spaghetti's been perfectly al dente for me each time also, and I like the sauce with little bits of pancetta. The two times earlier this year that my husband ordered the pizza, his crust didn't hold up under the toppings and was sagging.
  6. Has anyone been to Diva at the Metropolitan Hotel? What did you think?
  7. I hadn't noticed that at the time, but now that you mention it...They haven't been giving her much screen time in these episodes. She probably hasn't had much exciting-for-tv drama going on, and she hasn't been doing that well with her dishes either. I'm hoping that in one of the final episodes, the Season 3 finalists will have to cook for the chefs from Seasons 1 and 2 who were in the Season 1 v. 2 matchup. See how the Season 3 finalists feel with the tables turned.
  8. here's a link to the story and a link to the video (the video's better than the article).
  9. For last night's quickfire challenge of making something creative out of premade pie crust, there were a lot of tarts. I thought they could have used the pie crust more imaginatively. I also thought it was interesting that two people made tatins. I was sorry to see Lia go.
  10. How was the pizza? I've seen the pizzas there, and it wouldn't have occurred to me that it might not fit in my oven. At Costco, one of my usual purchases is the edamame that comes in a rectangular container and is in the refrigerated section with the hummus, cheeses, cold cuts, etc. I buy multiple boxes and transfer the edamame into freezer bags. Then I can just take handfuls out of the freezer and microwave for a quick snack (with a sprinkle of kosher salt).
  11. Hi - I was wondering where you get your ideas for new dishes? Are there any menu items that have surprised you with how popular they were with diners? Or, on the other hand, any that you thought would be more popular than they were? Thanks very much!
  12. Washingtonian says they heard the Wheaton location is re-opening on July 23.
  13. Sala Thai's older location (next to the CVS) has a sign that says Garfield Park Condos, Coming Spring 2007. Given what the delivery guy said to you, and given that Spring 2007 has come and gone without any sign of condo construction, I guess there's been a bit of a reprieve.
  14. I got to the Courthouse market at about 8:02 am yesterday, and as far as I know, it still opens at 8 am, but when I got there it was already packed!
  15. I noticed it's now open. Their menu has tacos and burritos with choice of grilled steak, grilled chicken, chipotle-rubbed fish, salsa-marinated tofu, or slow-roasted pork. Also agua fresca. Seems this will be competing with the Baja Fresh on the very next block.
  16. The going out gurus blog (click and scroll down) says the Mazza Gallerie location is opening on Monday, July 16.
  17. Re: the ruckus about the lobster/cholesterol, Ted Allen acknowledges the error in his blog this week. When watching last night's show, I thought the fourth course team was stuck no matter what they chose and would have gotten chastized if they hadn't done a dessert for the last course of a tasting menu. But after reading Lee Anne's blog where she says they explicitly weren't required to make a dessert, I can understand more the judges' criticism of why try the dessert if they couldn't pull it off. But they probably thought they could do decent desserts at the time. I thought Casey was about to waive her immunity when she was crying about feeling guilty.
  18. (Note: Fogo de Chao only does Restaurant Week at lunch.) Previously Mendocino Grille (dinner) has offered the entire menu (with upcharges). Vidalia also - their menu from January 2007 is still online here and maybe it'll be updated at some point with this time's menu.
  19. The lunch pizza is a good price. When I was trying to decide which size to get, I asked the server how big the "lunch" pizza was compared to the 12 inch, and she said it's the same.
  20. I had the tasty crab soup this weekend, and the one I had contained little cubes of ham. Also there were cubes of potato, lumps of crab, and corn - with some kernels still stuck together from when they were cut from the cob.
  21. On a recent dinner, the sushi on the conveyer belt was much wackier than the last time I visited and not in a way that appealed to me (no labels on the dishes but looked like shrimp tempura in a sushi roll with slices of kiwi and strawberries laid along the top, oddly flourescent colored roe and I don't mean the orange roe you normally see, and something that looked like mango slices on another shrimp tempura sushi roll). My edamame was cold, bland, and without any salt sprinkled on top and a summer roll with "crab" stick-lettuce-possibly avocado was on a wasabi mayo sauce with too much wasabi and there was also too much mayo (there might have been more mayo in the roll?). The eel roll and spicy tuna roll were just ok. The tempura fried tunafish (as in cooked tuna) roll drizzled with sauces had an unexpected chunk of cream cheese, and I'm not a fan of cream cheese in sushi.
  22. Bravo has recipies on their website, and Micah's meatloaf recipe is here. Secret ingredient of raisins? The chicken a la king recipe is here and sounds better. It could be fun to have a Top Chef party where people make the dishes from the challenge based on the recipes on Bravo's website. There must be people out there who have done that.
  23. Here's the first Ask Tim question/answer on how to get a chef to "swing by" your table, with answers from Frank Ruta and Jeff Black. (click).
  24. It sounds like you're in Outline mode. Try scrolling up on the screen to the top of the thread, click on Options on the upper right (under AddReply and NewTopic) and under Display Modes, click Switch to Standard. Maybe that will fix the problem you're seeing?
