  1. It was in both Tyler Cowan's guide and had its own website before the change in ownership (website doesn't look updated): 6387 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 703-532-0940 - off Route 7 past Seven Corners headed towards Alexandria and in the Shoppers Food Warehouse shopping center.
  2. I was in the Friday lunch group "Tom" described to you. It was a great meal - field report. At lunch, we discussed if it was appropriate to post about the restaurant because it would be more easily overrun than China Gourmet/Sichuan Boy.Please note: our group of seven was a tight squeeze at their largest table (it had a Lazy Susan) and there were only about 6 other tables (mainly 4 tops) in the restaurant. Hong Kong Palace may be too small to accommodate one of our standard DR group meals. This restaurant deserves good business, but not the "smother it in the cradle" kind. Thanks for your information and crosspost. Are there other Chinese restaurants you can recommend?
  3. I had to do a double take of my check under the couch's spot light. I chose to add on top of the included gratuity because the 18% was calc'd on just the drinks we ordered (Jake - what was that Syrah?). The service charge didn't include the additional service involved in the nibbles provided by Chef Wabeck OR the headache of 20+ separate checks. Glad I didn't experience the "service" y'all got at Montsouris later in the evening – it makes the service we got at FF glow by comparison. I seem to remember a guy using "my favorite fruit is a juicy date" as a bar pickup line...
  4. You're lucky, lately I've been fluctuating between wearing a house or wearing a barn and can only aspire to wearing a suite. I am usually at RTC directly from work so "biz-wear" during the week. On weekends I try to respect Michael's vision for his restaurant by making an effort (not always dry-clean-only) to "dress for dinner." Michael's staff is professional and treats everyone well - doubly so if you're a semi-regular.
  5. I hope you haven't had the menus printed yet, but you're probably serving queso Oaxaca. Spelled either way, it probably tastes the same.
  6. [Distant subterranean screams that make my genes hurt] From the Commander's Palace New Orleans Cookbook: Too bad, I was hopeful they'd settled into an authentic groove and were radar worthy. Seriously, is the "powdered egg white" a Health Code thing or a sign of limited mixology skills? Would Acadiana use powdered egg whites in a meringue?
  7. Thanks for these recommendations. I'll be heading to Boston's western 'burbs (Natick, Framingham, and the Newtons) and need to have suggestions for two dinners so I won't end up at the Natick Legal Seafood (won't have time to get into Boston proper). In addition to Le Soir & Sichuan Gourmet, I have these – please help me fine tune: Lumière, West Newton Blue Ginger, Wellesley
  8. About ten years ago Jeff Tomcheck published an Old Anglers Inn Cookbook
  9. I found the Bee George Honey mentioned in Ilaine's MoCo link at the Silver Spring branch of the Takoma Park/SS Co-op (located in the same shopping center as Red Dog Cafe). I've got the Greek yogurt ready and am actually looking forward to breakfast. The label on the back of the jar reads: I was surprised by the different varieties of honey, though not local, available at Harris Teeter, including Tupelo (another reminder that I wasn't shopping at Giant).
  10. Thanks for your post. I've included Don's 2005 post in its entirety for context. I am confident that Don still feels this way because of his handling of the DrSmoke saga. Agree with Jacques that bloggers don't have the right to anonymity. In the UNNAMED case here, the poster may be confusing their imagined rights with the Board's previous protective behavior towards someone mentioned in their blog. Telling tales out of school in a public forum, like the internet, about one's employer, staff, customers and investors may be amusing, but not professional behavior...
  11. How about something Irish?Irish Rose Shake in iced cocktail shaker & strain 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice 1/2 oz grenadine Serve in a cocktail glass (4.5 oz) - [looks best in a martini glass] Source: http://cocktaildb.com
  12. This week's "The List" mentioned a sale at the usually "to the trade" Fortessa Outlet. Has anyone shopped there? Might be worth it - if coupled with a Wegman's expedition.
  13. I heard great feedback from this year's Taste of the Nation event. Not mentioned up thread: Although the volunteer recruiting party is Nov. 13th, the actual Taste of the Nation event is Monday April 2nd, 2007.
  14. Sadly, it seems that "the team" is still on duty. The LA Police Detective with the show on Food Network posted this note yesterday about his recent experience... Posted here because I think it's more about their Board than Chris Cognac's show.
  15. Which site - Darnestown or Adams Morgan? Looks like 10 days for Darnestown (boy, is my local TJ's working hard to keep my biz)!
  16. Thanks to both you and Joe H for posting links to what New Haven pies look like -- I doubt we'll see Comet's photographed in their natural habitat...
  17. I drove up Rt 28 this afternoon hoping it wasn't the last good weather day for the sunroof. HT had a banner stating it would open in 20 days -- by my calculation: Monday 30 October (treat!) only 11 months after original announcement.
  18. I was glad to see that Leigh got a nod too. It's going to be a rough Friday/Saturday dinner service this weekend. Like us, many folks read the Post on-line and the color section of the paper hits my driveway on Saturday AM. Probably won't be able to walk-in for a while and even space at Yi Wah's bar will be tight.
  19. There was a blurbette today from the Washington Business Journal about a chain looking to expand, through new franchisees, into DC/Balto. Can anyone comment about the quality of Steak n Shake's food? The shake mentioned in the article caught my attention.
  20. Not many places where folks read this then smile, nod, and think "that's cool."Check out Wonder Book when in Frederick at the far end (from I-70) of Rt.40's Miracle Mile (a block past the flagship Roy Rogers). Huge (rent's cheaper) and lots of books (overstocks and used).
  21. I didn't get there until about 0920 and the Shoebox was almost empty. Out of brownies, cookies and (sniff) Amor and the Samurai. Next Saturday (Oct 7th), she'll be at the Art on the Avenue street fest in Del Ray/Alexandra instead of Arlington. Does anyone have good wine pairing suggestions for the Gorgonzola/Candied Walnut Prussians?
  22. Curiousity got the better of me earlier today and I approached a grandmotherly émigré for translation. Nadya, please warn us before we do that. She was quite upset by the signature passage and was hesitant to even whisper the translation to me. Coarse language involving chocolate and Angry Dogs, oh my.
