  1. I haven't been to Desii Wok, but it reminds me of http://www.masalawok.com/ which is in Herndon.
  2. http://www.smartgear.org/
  3. Stopped by last week and it was the perfect antidote to a cold. Is it too much to ask for yakitori there as well?
  4. I saw that photograph during my search but didn't think the two story building in front of the smaller one could be hidden by the camera angle looking down in the original photograph. It was an interesting search, cheers!
  5. Would have loved to attended. Plan on getting the book soon.
  6. We tried it out and it is definitely much bigger on the inside like previously observed. As we walked up to District of 3.14, for a second, I wondered if it was the 930. Whenever, I'm on that side of the street looking at the Fifth Column, it reminds me of giving a few dollars to guys on the street to make sure my car didn't get scratched in the late 1980s going to see shows. Since it's 20 years later, there wasn't a midnight show to attend, but dinner with friends at 6pm. The garlic bread with real garlic was pleasing warm and fresh. The salads were equally green and enjoyable. However as always , pizza is the main show. I found it understated from my Chicago memories, but since it was a St Louis style pie which I have no experience tasting, perhaps it was normal. The cornmeal crush was good in terms of texture. The day after the slices were pretty much the same. A good night overall, however not in a rush to put it into the normal rotation.

My GF got a copy as a surprise gift and look forward to reading it. Hopefully will get a chance soon. Thinking a dark and stormy night with a good hot soup!
  8. We've driven by the Hunter's Head several times and wanted to stop. A friend who lives out there says it's pretty decent, although not the quality of Ashby Inn or the more traditionally 'evening meal' locations.
  9. Since I was up for the search challenge, I tried looking for the restaurant and there is nothing. A similar place would be Baita Deona. The original poster mentions bike riding trips, so it's within reason that the restaurant could be outside of Cortina proper or also a seasonable place. Also, the image's metadata is incorrect. I would contact the original poster.
  10. Thanks Don! It's hard to make a place for a community to flourish, but you have done it.
  11. My DVR has two episodes on it only.
  12. Last one we saw was on lentils which was pretty good. Want to try the mung lentils fried pancake recipe.
  13. GF and I were driving back along Rte 50 on Monday evening. I had a hankering for HKP, but the drive from outside the Beltway lost out to a pho place in the area. If I had only known! Looking forward to trying it.
  14. We ventured to NYC last weekend for a celebration of my GF's birthday. Somehow we made it thru the downpour of rain on Friday to Blue Hill which was good enough to accommodate our two and half hour change in reservation time due to the weather and traffic problems. We liked the three hour meal which was spaced very nicely. The ingredients were fresh and quite pure in taste. I especially liked the small tomato burger amuse-bouche which as intended was unexpected. We ordered a tasting menu and a few appetizers and an entree and it flowed very nicely. I was surprised how perfectly prepared the sea bass, lobster, and sole since I had unfairly expected the fruits and vegetables to be main focus. All in all it was very satisfying evening and we look forward to trying the restaurant on the farm in the future. Saturday was pretty casual with friends walking the Central Park and we stopped off at the Central Park Boat House for some lakeside brunch. The view was incredible and perfect break in our five hour expedition of New York City's wildness and zoo. I enjoyed the gazpacho and tuna vegetable salad. Really one of my most favorite recent views and I've seen the boathouse before in person and in films, but actually sitting down inside the boat house was a very refreshing experience in the summertime. Sunday we met some friends in Nolita for brunch at Spring Street Natural and again it was enjoyable. It's really hard to find terrible places for breakfast or brunch in the city unlike here locally. Wrapping it up we paid homage to chocolate at Kee's Chocolates and Vosges Haut-Chocolat in Soho. A woman happy with chocolate, a happy man.
  15. Marja is a bit disappointing as the primary narrator. It's suppose to be her story, yet she appears unengaged by the culinary visits.
  16. The last time we ventured to Four Sisters, a few months ago, had caramelized fish in a clay pot, and concur it wasn't as good as in the old location. I think the quality tends to slip a bit more in the Merrifield version, but perhaps once the Mosaic District is finished, it will reinvigorate them. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy going there and will do so in the future, but it's not operating at the same level.
  17. We ended up finally having this dinner with our friends. Instead of heading into DC for evening, we went west and to the Ashby Inn for dinner. All of us had the five course tasting menu and two had the wine pairings as well. I have to say, the drive was beautiful, the view from the back of the inn was gorgeous and eating outside on the patio was sublime. Enjoyed the leisurely 3 1/2 hour meal that wasn't rushed, the conversation flowed quite naturally, and everything was perfect from the cocktails to the service to every course, except for one complaint near the end. A few in our party feel the beef was a little heavy on the salt, however I think that was a very minor concern with the overall evening's meal. All of us were quite happy with our visit and definitely feel it's worth more visits.
  18. Enjoyed the view from Bluemont Vineyard this past weekend and it was quite nice. You really can see for miles! The Petit Manseng and desert wine, The Strawberry were enjoyed with cheeses and bread. It was fun to pick your own blackberries and they have a nice store with good quality eggs and unsalted butter. Spending an afternoon visiting both places is definitely recommended and fun!
  19. Thanks! Got it setup now to record the series.
