They started to grill fish at lunch time from what I recall. I'm not sure if goes beyond that to dinner.

The interesting part in the Eater article (not the DC version) was the quote from the earlier article where Jose Andres said he subsidizes Minibar.

We took my wife's mother there on a recent visit and it was throughly enjoyable. I second people's comments about the quality and taste of the good food. Also loved the U-bet chocolate egg cream drink. Not sure if this is a popular style drink item these days, but really like the mixed textures in the drink. My only negative with the place was the sound level upstairs was quite high.

You make some good pies. It's truly our loss. Good luck in your journey and new place.

Comp, Discount, or Full Amount - What Do You Think?
lion replied to DonRocks's topic in News and Media
I've been involved in a similar situation with hosting events and different organizers will not charge each other, etc... Sometimes I've drawn the line and made other organizers pay and sometimes not. The one thing which I think is utmost important is clarity and consistency. If it gets out that some people at the same professional level are paying and others are not, then there's hell to pay. People's egos especially in a small group of people who spend years training and professionally involved in a certain field will not forget. -
I've used some derivation of 'lion' online, in various forums or boards, because it's a loose translation of my last name. And I'm fond of those great beasts who eat when they want and sleep all day!

Parking is the only reason I haven't visited IzaKaya Seki yet. Last week we finally went to Sakuramen on a week night, it took about 25-30 minutes to find parking in Adams Morgan. About two years ago, I used to be going to the U street neighborhood for about six months. Normally, it would take about 30 minutes to find parking as well. Granted time of the evening +- 1 hour can make a substantial difference, it was still a challenge.

Does anyone know how much money is being generated by the Express Lanes? I'm rarely on the Beltway during rush hours and at any other time, it seems empty.

We've been a few times to the Fairfax or Fair Oaks area one. I've made the run to get chicken noodle soup when the wife has been sick and she felt it was as good as Parkway Deli in MD. It was a good recommendation a few months ago and recommend it.

The site (forum software) has some weird behavior in terms of posting, I was trying to post a link for a youtube video. However, that didn't work and I couldn't delete the posting. On my macbook air using the safari browser, it will download a file when I log in after clicking the login button. -

Finally got around to watching the new show. Seemed similar to his other shows except as others have mentioned in this thread, a slightly more political and historical bent to the country or city he visits. Curious to see if he does the historical/political view in LA or other western countries with the few next shows. Visually I think it's much more impressive than the previous shows, the digital cameras used give better depth of field, and color saturation in low light conditions. Bourdain was on Fareed Zakaria's GPS and mentioned that he thought of Chinese food as the mother tongue of all cuisines. I was surprised he said that.

Red Apron is open now and the few times I've been to Mom's next door, it looks like good volume going thru the doors. Interesting. I actually think the opposite. If I'm buying a chicken from a grocery store, I would expect to pay more. At a 'takeout place' I would expect to pay a little less since the volume of buying would get them better prices. My expectation may be incorrect to make in the first place but perhaps it is a result of confusion on the purpose of these kind of hybrid places. Is it really a butcher, fast food place or a restaurant?

Yes, I thought that too when the Red Apron sales person told me a rotisserie chicken costs $18.00 last weekend.

We made the risotto recipe for dinner tonight. Very rich and tasty. We used a Tor instead of the gorgonzola dolce. I would change two items to the recipe. 1> Grind the pistachios or spend a good chuck of time insuring a very fine consistency. 2> There is a part in the recipe which calls for "After 8 or 9 minutes of this add the gorgonzola dolce", I would reduce that time to 2-3 minutes. Looking forward to trying the leftovers tomorrow. Again thanks for revised Roberto Donna recipe, Joe!

Thanks for the suggestions, Joe. I took several of Chef Donna's cooking classes ten years ago and wonder if this recipe was used at the time.

I liked the season's finale and would have liked all the shows to have that dynamics between the judges and participants. Not sure about watching another season unless some of the more glaring problems can be fixed.
