  1. http://www.kleankanteen.com/products/insulated/klean-kanteen-insulated-12oz.php I like the Klean Kanteen Insulated 12oz Stainless Steel Bottle, does a pretty good job at keeping coffee hot.
  2. Wow, that news is quite bad! I was just there yesterday for lunch (#9 Tofu skin bahn mi, my personal favorite). They use butter instead of mayonnaise as other bahn mi places and definitely makes it tastes better. It will be hard to replace.
  3. That's sad to hear. We finally went last week and it was quite good as others said above. There was something a bit off-putting at the beginning of the meal. They had listed a special lunch deal however did not have it on the weekend even though the dates were listed on the website.
  4. We went on a Saturday evening, pre Washington Post review and got down there around 5pm. They let us restless hardy souls in line a few minutes later, however the kitchen counter didn't get filled until after 6pm on that night.
  5. We also were there on Monday for an early dinner, and it was just as good as always. Fairly empty at 5:30, packed as we left close to 7pm.
  6. I've spent many late night evenings at OEG enjoying the half priced raw bar and beer. Definitely a good deal in town for late night dining. Also, the bartenders always provide good service and conversation as well. The raw bar definitely separates it from the others in the Clyde's Restaurant group but the overall food is not much different from the Great American Restaurant group. These kind of restaurants are all what they are, and it is just a higher quality level 'convenience' meal, but that does not make it a tourist trap. Rather just not destination restaurant quality level.
  7. I also agree with Xochitl10's recommendation to go outside of Tokyo. Check out the links for onsens, ryokans, restaurants, and places of interest. Paul's food travel blog is quite good as well for displaying the variety of experiences possible. http://www.onsenexpress.com/site/index_flash.php http://www.lampnoyado.co.jp/en/price_en.html http://www.takaragawa.com/english.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daio_Wasabi_farm http://paulstravelpics.blogspot.com/2007/08/tokyo-food-trip-quick-navigation-guide.html http://kozyndan.livejournal.com/20841.html#cutid1 Sorry for the long list of suggestions, haven't gotten to Japan in a few years and really miss visiting.
  8. If you are going to the Taj Mahal, also plan a trip to the red http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agra_Fort. Seeing the Taj Mahal, a few miles away from the terrace of the fort is an impressive and contemplative sight. I wondered, like countless others, what Shah Jahan was thinking as he looked at the Taj Mahal from the fort over the 21 year construction period. Truly a monument build out of the love for his wife. Also, Taj Group hotels has several exquisite palaces leased as hotels now which definitely qualify as once in a lifetime visits. http://www.tajhotels.com/Luxury/Grand-Palaces-And-Iconic-Hotels/Taj-Falaknuma-Palace-Hyderabad/Overview.html http://www.tajhotels.com/Luxury/Grand-Palaces-And-Iconic-Hotels/Rambagh-Palace-Jaipur/Overview.html http://www.tajhotels.com/Luxury/Grand-Palaces-And-Iconic-Hotels/Umaid-Bhawan-Palace-Jodhpur/Overview.html
  9. We made the trek at 4am to Haleakala National Park on Maui at the end of August this year. It was definitely cold but as Steve R. said, but worth the trip to see the sun rise peak up thru the clouds. I had made the trip eight years before, but seeing it with my wife and sharing it together was special. I think it's hard for others to give suggestions for a bucket list since the items can only having meaning if it has already resonated with you. With that in mind, my vote would be to see the Northern Lights. FYI, you can't ride bikes down the whole way anymore since apparently a few people died riding off the mountain. Bike riding starts outside the National Park entrance and continues down from there.
  10. Thanks for the recommendations, deangold!
  11. How many Don Rockwell(s) are there in the world?
  12. Really a shame, it's a great store. We enjoyed going there and the staff was always super attentive.
  13. Mark's Kitchen in Takoma Park is also a good option.
  14. We throughly enjoyed our evening at Rose's Luxury. A quite diverse group of tastes with the small menu and a very casual atmosphere. The place didn't feel like a Washington DC restaurant, rather something more like a Philadelphia or Brooklyn restaurant, and to feel truly transported is a compliment. Look forward to many repeat trips.
  15. We stopped by the German Gourmet Deli this afternoon and picked up 3 or 4 mustards alas no Abita there. The place was fully packed the entire time of our visit and deli counter was working pretty hard. We filled up with some meats, mustards and chocolates for Thanksgiving and Christmas gifts. My wife was impressed but the number of chocolates on the shelves which says a lot. Thanks for mentioning the place ZoraMargolis, it was our first time there and worth the trip.
  16. Thank you for the informative replies, my lack of knowledge in Bourbon is clearly evident. I did see the GQ family tree a few days ago and it was helpful to visualize the family tree. I had wanted to get something special for my father in law for the holidays but probably will wait until next year and go with some grilling accessories.
  17. Looking at the news release with the long lines in KY, I wanted to know if anyone had any experience buying a bottle in the DC metro area and if so how and what was the cost? If this is like hunting a unicorn please forgive the casual tone of my question.
  18. Thanks Tujague for creating this list.
  19. My wife and I felt it was a quite lovely documentary about the lives of the people in the restaurant. As Rovers200 and Darkstar965 implied, the film packed quite a few wallops in regards to the the families struggles and how the communities that support the restaurants interact with them. Well worth viewing and the title is appropriate in hindsight. It was good to see you Darkstar965 and your +1 in the elevator afterwards as well.
  20. New documentary film on iTunes and others: http://www.ayearinburgundy.com
