  1. They are on the menu--grilled whole--at the Tabard today. (They are often on the menu, depending on availability.)
  2. Hee hee--I feed that to the staff. I would make something at home for you guys. It may have to be something easy since I have an event the night before also. I will check out the menu and timing for the party. If I don't have to stick around to cut wedding cake, I can get out in a couple of hours.
  3. Haven't gone in a while but we also pack a cooler in the car. Of course, I can never resist having funnel cake.
  4. I am cooking for a small wedding at 1:00. Depending on how it goes, I may be able to come toward the end.
  5. A Cantonese dish is bitter melon and beef in black bean sauce. . It's one of my father's favorite dishes. Sadly, I have never developed a taste it.
  6. What do you guys think of Irenes? Are there good ones in the Wheaton/Silver Spring area I should check out? Thanks.
  7. An amazing Samual Smith root stout float at Tabard Inn. Mmm, grown-up float.
  8. I was at work when it happened. We ran outside into the alley. (I didn't know you weren't supposed to go outside.) Once we confirmed it was an earthquake and not a bomb, we just went back to work. Lunch service does not wait.
  9. I have only been there four times. Three out of four, the duck was very good. The other time, the skin was flabby and the fat was not rendered out. Other than that, no complaints. I also like the crispy beef. Can't speak to the hot and sour soup since I don't usually order that at any restaurant. The service was always gracious.
  10. Fresh figs from a family friend's backyard. Yum.
  11. If there was a "like" button, I would click on what Zora, Kibbee Nayee and Darkstar wrote. This is a great community that you have built. I love that members can ask a question and others will jump in with answers. It's also great to hear straight from people in the industry about what is happening in the food scene. Thank you for creating and maintaining dr.com. This is something I look forward to reading each day.
  12. By courting, I meant the blogger gathering. I did not mean to insult your integrity, which is why I mentioned that you disclosed the circumstances.
  13. Post deleted. Meant to point out practice of blogger events, not intended to insult fellow member.
  14. I like pine nuts a lot and have been cooking with them for years. I didn't believe pine mouth until I had it last year. A day after having pesto, things started to taste metallic. I couldn't get rid of the taste for a week and a half. Ugh. Of course, that was when I was in culinary school too. Not fun having to get a second opinion on everything I cooked.
  15. You can also check out Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. They carry a lot of uncommon varieties.
  16. There is also Bistro Provence in Bethesda and Bezu in Potomac. Both places have old-school French chefs with traditional menus.
  17. For lunch, they have a "three dishes one soup" special for $19.95. You can choose from over 50 dishes, including very authentic Chinese dishes. The dishes can feed two hearty eaters or three average eaters. If you want, you can add one more dish for around $6. The special runs every day, including weekends. Can't beat this deal.
  18. OMG that is really funny. You may be on to something. The lavender syrup might be nice in some iced green tea. P.S. If you have leftover lavender flowers, I recently started making a new dip for my crudite platters. I use sour cream as a base and mix in yogurt, chopped chives, tarragon and lavender flowers. (Season well with salt and pepper) Everyone who has tried it has liked the dip. Make sure you chop up the lavender flowers well so you don't get chunks in the dip. That makes it taste a little like hand lotion.
  19. Exactly! A kitchen with limited space can only do so many things at once. At the last place I worked, the pizza station was used to make waffles, French toast , muffins, etc. at breakfast. To switch over to lunch, we had to put all the breakfast stuff away before we even had room to roll pizza dough. The wait time was probably so they could clear out all the breakfast tickets first.
  20. Since you are in Laurel, Smile Herb in College Park is not too far. They sell organic and food grade items for natural health, aromatherapy and soap making.
  21. Not so Italian but a poached salmon might be nice. That would go well with your farro salad.
  22. Cumberland; Berkeley Springs, WV I stayed at Rocky Gap several years ago. Dinner in the main dining room is not bad. Their bar and breakfast are pretty basic. Out in Cumberland, there is a fun little place called The Crabby Pig. They serve ribs and barbecue--laid back and casual with outdoor seating. If you don't mind driving to Berkeley Springs, WV (about 20 miles away), there is a nice restaurant called Lot 12 Public House. I had dinner there and really enjoyed it.
  23. I love Le Bledo. My friend lives nearby and orders from them for family events. You can order Vietnamese noodles, grilled meat, spring rolls, etc. in disposable foil trays. Their green birthday cake is also fantastic. Apparently, it's common to have the whipped cream frosting colored green and add coconut flakes on the side.
