  1. we are having a dinner to settle a bet I made and on the menu is cheeseburgers, homemade fries, mac and cheese, adult milkshakes and a veggie dish of some sort. Anyone have a killer recipie for burgers?
  2. If you want to have something a bit more expensive, I went to Capital Grill right around the corner and had a great steak salad and a glass of wine while I read the paper. That was kind of cool.
  3. My husband loves the Chicken Fried Steak at Madams Organ
  4. I tried like crazy to get reservations at the Tasting Room for our anniversary last weekend but I was shot down (ended up in the bistro which was lovely). How soon in advance does the normal person need to get reservations at this joint?
  5. I am origanally from Toledo but we always were up in teh Detroit area to shop and gamble. I heard that the restaurant in the new MGM Grand downtown is something pretty special. Anyone care to confirm?
  6. Going to be in Anaheim for a big convention the first week of November. We tried to book Napa Rose but it was fully committed. Are there any other recommendations out there for a "fine dining" type of place? I looked on Opentable and I couldn't find a thing. Thanks, Jennifer
  7. Bourbon in Adams Morgan where we spend a good deal of our disposible dining income (I guess I am one of those "people" that you are talking about, Beezy) California Tortilla Spices Sushi-Ko Dino
  8. I can't beleive it has been one year, but my husband and I are celebrating our one year anniversary this month! Holy crap! I made reservations at Eve, but sadly there were no reservations to be had in the Tasting Room. Should I keep the reservation? Is the regular dining room first anniversary-worthy? Thanks in advance for the input.
  9. the recipie in How to Cook Everything for corn waffles might be what you are looking for.
  10. Bourbon has a great grilled cheese. Get it with the old bay waffle fries (if you like that sort of thing) or with tomato soup. It is made on texas toast and is buttery and cheesey.
  11. Whiule wages may be the same at whole foods as Giant and Safeway, workers at Whole Food do not have a company sponsored pension plan (merely a non-matching 401K plan) and health care for most full time ee's at giant and safeway is company sponsored and workers pay little to nothing for it. And yes, Whole Foods is vehemently anti-union. I know from personal experience from an organizing drive that I was involved with.
  12. DC Coast usually does the whole menu with some upcharges for some dishes like the lobster. Same with Ceiba. Also? Some of you all are snobs. Restaurant week is great for those of us that can't dine at Palena, Eve and BLT a few times a month or even once a month for that matter.
  13. Another idea would be to sit outside at Dean and Deluca and have something from the deli there. You could sit for hours there eating, working, and drinking coffee.
  14. I would love to do this. We have received about 10 cookbooks over the last year as wedding gifts and I have been wanting to take them out for a spin, so to speak. I want to start with the basics and go with How to Cook Everything.
  15. I got a PM saying that it was pretty good at Capital Grill. Thanks for the recs. I probably will forgo the BdC recommendation based on prior visits, but I will let you know how it goes.
  16. I wanted to bump this up to see if there were any new thoughts on this topic. I have been craving steak tartare for a a week or so now. ANy brilliant ideas?
  17. I was there last week as well for a conference and a few food highlights: Rough cut tuna nachos at Mesa Grill Thai Chicken Salad at Spago Breakfast buffet at Wynn (that was particilarly awesome and calorie filled!) Filet mignon at Craft Steak
  18. Roger Troutman and I had a kind of crappy V-Day dinner last year at Charlie Palmers. The reason it was crappy was the terribly slooooooow service. But on the up side they gave out a coupon at the end of the meal for 25% off a future meal there. But we never actually used it. After our experience with dinner out on NYE, I think the husband and I are staying in this year.
  19. Nope. You are wrong, sweetie. But that is all I am going to say.
  20. I would get flamed to death if I named names. I am also positive that this was a symptom of too many people and too much food trying to come out of the kitchen so I think that this night should not be the final determination on the greatness of this joint. That said, I am still pissed that the two of us spent nearly $300 and it was totally not worth it. $300 on a normal night at this place would get you stuffed silly and an expensive bottle of wine to boot.
  21. I went to one of the restaurants mentioned above as part of a group of six for dinner on NYE. It was one of those places that are excellent on any other night but sucked much rear for dinner that night. We had a five course dinner. Our reservations were for 8:30pm and we did not get out of there until 11:45. This was not because we were lingering over a bottle of wine. This was because it took forever to be served. We were even once served someone elses second course which ended up being incorrect, not for our table. They were then swooped up form beneath our forks and plopped down on another table. Plus it was expensive as hell. Next time we are eating in.
  22. I am in too. I lost 55 pounds last year to look ravishing in my white gown. But the honeymoon in hawaii and the holidays have taken their toll.
