  1. Looks like this place is going to be opening soon. WE were in the falafel shop last night for our two month anniversary dinner and they were accepting applications. We walked past the place where it is going to be and there was all kinds of construction going on. Maybe this place will force one of the jumbo slices to go out of business. That would be a victory
  2. Just got back from Breadline and I am having the most amazing tomato saffron soup. it is sweet, salty, and full of carmelized onions. I could drink a gallon of it. They had a great looking brat with kraut but it looked like it had about 5000 calories so I passed. I think Breadline is as awesome as it ever was.
  3. there is not a soul downdown here today. Where should we meet for a liquid lunch? Come on, I won't tell on you...
  4. Roger Troutman and I will be there. We are looking forward to celebrating the best new addition to Adams Morgan this year.
  5. you know it my brother. You are more than welcome re: chicken. If there is one thing my husband and I know it is greasy food.
  6. thank you thank you thank you! It was the wedding of the year! If only Ray's the Classics catered and would have brought it all to Toledo, OH then it would have been the wedding of the century!
  7. My husband took me there for my birthday on Tuesday and I will definitely be going back. However, I stupidly decided to order something other than the steak because I thought that if at Ray's the Classics, one should order something other than what you could get at Ray's the Steaks. I got the lobster tail special. It was nice, but I was jealous of the steaks that everyone had around me. The tail was served out of the shell, with a raisin and nut sauce on the side. Intersting, but I thought that it was much too sweet. But the eggs? Oh god damn the eggs...they were awesome. My husband had the fried chicken and liked it. We also had the apple tart and the chocolate mousse for dessert. Both were great. Whole thing, including cocktails came to 90 bucks without tip. Pretty awesome.
  8. I am bumping this up because Roger Troutman and I are leaving for our honeymoon on Tuesday and we will be spending a week in Honolulu (and another week on Kawaii). Anything new and awesome? How about some really romantic pleaces to eat?
  9. Like I said: It just seemed strange to me after reading all of the posts about this place that all of a sudden there was a bunch of people from the board there. And then there is a report on the Tom chat today about crashers and I said to myself, "self, that seems strange." I must stress again that I am gladyou went to report on the place. A place that I will go to soon based on your recs.
  10. I have to say I was wondering how you all knew to show up there, however. The thread about the joint talks about the place opening soon and then all of a sudden there is a DR. com event happening there wth a bunch of you all reporting on how great it was. I mean I am glad you all went and reported back the greatness of the joint, but it did seem a little strange. Did you all get invited because you all spend tons of scratch at Eve? I have no problem with that or anything, mind you. Good for you to be rewarded for being such good customers.
  11. There are a couple of great places to eat when in the 'Burgh. Kaya in the Strip District. I would go to the Church Brew Works for sandwiches and beer and for high end, The Casbah in Shadyside.
  12. AS far as fast food goes, I am not sure what beats CA Tortilla. I have always found the ingrediants to be fresh and the service to be fast. I would much rather get food from this joint than another chain. I for one can't go out to DC Coast, or Ceiba, or Kaz everyday for lunch. I just don't make that kind of scratch.
  13. Just had a lovely restaurant week lunch at Ceiba. They had the choice of four or five apps (included the shrip ceiveche and the conch chowder) and any of the entrees, and four different deserts. Really nice sized portions of everything. I just love Ceiba. It is one of my favorites in town. it really is.
  14. I have recently had a dark and stormy at two places. 1) Ceiba. It was pretty good but the ginger beer did not have enough "snap". They also served it with a stalk of sugar cane which was a nice touch. 2) The better of the two was served at the Argonaut on H street. Ask Shannon to make you one and you will adore it.
  15. I am taking your advice and this evening I am going to stock the sucker. I am a COMPLETE novice but I am going to keep coming back to this thread for some ideas. I have susbscribed to wine spectator and food and wine and I am ready to go. Thanks again for the recs
  16. Not sure if this place has already been mentioned but, "Off the Record" at the Hay Adams Hotel serves up some great classic drinks. Mohammad makes a mean manhattan in my opinion.
  17. My Fiance and I ate at Wasabi last night as well. I had 4 plates, he had seven which included sashimi, sushi rolls, and a big bowl of ginger strawberries. My first impression was what fun this is! Normally when we go out for sushi, which is ususally at Spices or Sushi Taro, I have to give in and get something that is not my favorite because he wants it and vice versa. I likd that I could get what I wanted and wth instant gratification. What we both thought was that the sushi was not nearly as good as the other two places I mentioned. And the variety? I think that there were only really 5 different rolls being offered to us. I would have liked to have seen some more variety. Not sure that I will ever go back for dinner, but I may try take out for lunch because I work right down the street.
  18. My fiance and I received a wonderful shower gift in the form of a 30 bottle wine fridge and we are in the process of stocking it all. This thread is a great one for ideas, so thanks.
  19. I vote for smoking being real real real fun. Love the hell out of it. I wonder if we are going to see more outside additions to places because of the ban. That would be a good thing in my opinion
  20. the 7 layer burrito, yo. I lived on those in law school. Maybe that is why I gained 50 pounds
  21. Roger Troutman and I are at the Argonaut from time to time and it is one of our favorites. Someone asked above if they serve dark and stormys and I am here to tell you that they do and they are a treat for sure. They are strong as hell so beware. Or not.
