  1. ok. I am not the richest of chicks. When I go out to eat I expect at the very least a wait staff that wants to take my order and allow me to spend my hard earned cash. When Roger Troutman and I went to have lunch at the Bistro last weekend, we watched every waiter in the joint walk past our table and never stop to take an order. Now, I have been to this place about 5 times in the past couple of years and I have never been disappointed with the food. But the service has always been shitty. I am not asking for "ass kissing", as is referenced in the above post, but I am asking for service. I will never ever go back to this place after last weekend.
  2. Thanks for the insight, Joe. I will try out the other Puck place on my own when I have some down time. The dinner that I am arranging is two male heavy-hitters so I am thinking that a steak dinner would be good for all the testosterone in the room. But its too bad that I got the royal dis on Spago. I was really looing forward to it. --- Jar (AlliK)
  3. I had reservations at Spago, but they called me and said that they have to close that night for a special event. I have a new reservation at Mastro's (NOT Maestro's, Joe!) So I am hoping that this place is ok. But the Ivy...that is a good idea. Thanks for your thoughts
  4. So I have to entertain two big shots in LA in a couple of weeks. We will be in Beverly Hills, so I would like someplace nearby. Money is not a consideration and extra points if we can see celebrities. What do you all think? --- The Ivy and Ivy At The Shore (booklovingbabe)
  5. The Raven in Mount P has great johns. What really makes it is the graffiti. My favorite recent addition in the ladies room is, "If you have to take a cab here you don't belong here."
  6. I really love the shrimp puffs and the chicken satay. The drinks are on the small side, however. I am more of a fan of the Tonic-type martinis that come in a glass that has an undertow.
  7. So I guess no Jaleo, no Teaism, no Mesa Grill, no Charlie Palmers for you.
  8. What is the name of that Dim Sum place in the Gannet building in Alexandria? I had been there a few times with an ex and I always thought it was wonderful. They have the carts and you can also order off the menu as well. Any idea of the name of this joint?
  9. Actually I thought the food was pretty good for a bar. I had a chicken quesadilla and everyone else had the sausages and we were all pretty happy.
  10. I agree. But if you need Ritz crackers, 6 two liters of diet coke, jugs of water, oatmeal, floor wax, and the 40 other things that I hate carrying up to my third floor apartment that weigh 100 pounds...I am all about the Pea Pod. plus those teamsters are hotties
  11. I think that the best place to get groceries in this city is Pea Pod by Giant. The stuff I get is always fresh, good selection (for staples, anyway) and they carry your shit up to your apartment. I love that
  12. Triple berry cherrios. I love those freeze dried berries. Can I still post after saying this?
  13. So I have never been to hawaii, so is there some special dish that I should not miss while I am there? And please do not say spam.
  14. I just thought of another one: This bagel joint in CP where my boyfriend and I would go just about once a week for good for DC bagles...I was picking out the last three of our dozen when I saw the biggest roach of my life crawl out of the salt bagels and make his way into the blueberry section. have not been back since.
  15. Thanks for the rad advice. I will report back and let you know how it was and where I ended up. I can't wait!
  16. Just went to Breadline for the first time today and I have to say it was one of the best lunches that I have had in forever! I had the smoked salmon, which is on the lightest of lights wheat bread and is covered with arugula, cream cheese with chives and a thick slice of smoked salmon. it was delightful. Has anyone written about the fabulous pop and juice choices this joint has? And the flavored water for .50? Awesome edited for spellllingz
  17. I think that "avoiding chains at all costs" does not keep you from a bad meal. I actually had the poorest service of my entire life at Bradley Ogden's in Vegas the second time I ate there. I was there with a group of 6 all under the age of 35 and we were treated as if we were at the children's table at thanksgiving.
  18. I will be traveling to Honolulu in November and I will have the opportunity to try the best that this city has to offer. I am looking to have a big blow out dinner at some point. Where would you recommend? Price is not a consideration.
  19. I have been to the Wonderland Bar a few times now and I have to say that I can only really stand this joint right after work when it is not so crowded. And can you really be a dive bar when you serve such fabulous beers and cocktails?
  20. I order from Mr. Chen's about twice a month and I think it is the best delivery in this area. Typically we order the Crab Rangoon and a couple of entrees. Usually I get the crispy orange beef whioh is a wickedly sweet/spicy concotion. The delivery comes quick and hot and is a pretty good deal for the amount you get.
  21. I agree with many of you: I had the driest cupcakes in the planet there. I really really want to like this place, but the sweets are kind of expensive and not that great fror what you are getting. I would rather go to Whole Foods on P and get cupcakes from their bakery.
  22. I will allow you all to call it a "fancy pants". But I want my finders fee. Can I be one of the judges? Then we can consider it even. Jennifer
  23. The Best mojitos are found at Habana Villiage in Adams Morgan. End of story. But you all can pay too much for one at one of your fancy-pants restaurants if you want.
  24. The roof at Madam's Organ is pretty good, too. It is a particularly great vantage point of the drunkards below on 18th
