  1. I don't get it. What is so terrible about this article? I rather enjoyed it!
  2. These are great suggestions. Along the same vein, I have a friend that is recovering from chemo and getting ready for radiation. A bunch of us have volunteered to make meals for his family of four which include two teenage sons. The family will eat anything, and the cancer patient has been craving spicey foods. First time I went over I made a lasagna, next was jambalaya. What should I do the next time? It has to be somethign I can make the night before and then keep in the fridge at work and take over around dinner time.
  3. I think I said this above, but the Capital Grill is a great place to lunch for jury duty. Sit at the bar and drink some wine, eat a steak salad, talk to the bartender. Also the Source is real close by, too. Both are right around the corner. Much closer than Charlie Palmers.
  4. Appreciate the thoughts, and I am doing all that too. But I am unwilling to give up eating out. I think that there are things that you can choose on menus that are better than others, of course. For example last night we had dinner at Rasika and I stuck with the lentil patties and tandoori chicken. Not sure if that was good for me or not, though. I am never really sure how Indian food is prepared.
  5. Gonna attempt to do it all natural first by diet. The good thing is that there is tons of places to eat well out in DC these days. In fact I think we need a thread dedicated to healty choices at some of the places here. I am a firm believer that you don't have to give up your social life and love for food simply because you are watching what you eat.
  6. I just got a physical and found out that my cholesterol is a little in the "strokey" area, so no Hell Burgers, Dino Lasagna with Wild Boar, or fried shit at Blue Duck. Instead: Sushi at Wasabi downtown- has the menu EVER changed since it opened? I will keep going back because it is quick and cheap and I love the chicken antichucho but damn, change it up, yo. Good Salmon on top of peas and rice at Ceiba A chicken shwarma salad at the Art Gallery Grill on Eye Street. I love that little ol waiter that grabs your arm and tells you about the specials. I want a cheeseburger. And cheese. And fat.
  7. when I lived there, three places that were on the regular rotation: MadMex (see above) The Casbah in Shadyside http://www.bigburrito.com/casbah/ and The Church Brew Works- http://www.churchbrew.com/ this place may not be the best food in the world but as the name implies it is a brewpub in an old church. The kegs are right there on the alter. This joint is near the strip district so go and shop for a bit and stop here for lunch!
  8. had a WONDERFUL dinner there on Saturday. Roger Troutman had the bison ribeye which was exceptional and I had the over the top duck with 2oz of foie gras and rubarb. I can honestly say that it is the best dish that I have ever had in DC. ever. we finished the meal with the waffle ice cream sandwhich with blueberry ice cream and chocolate sauce. The service was lovely and I especially love watching the cooks in the open kictchen. I feel like I am watching a live version of Top Chef.
  9. and I hate when they repeat dishes that they have done before: the god damn fresh pasta, the banana scallops, the hallo-hallo....all done. I thought Dale was a whiney bitch to be honest with you. Good to see him go.
  10. thanks! I didn't even get that message. When you put in Dino as a restaurant name it doesnt come up. So I hope it is just offline as you say.
  11. Hey, are you all still using opentable for reservations? I can't seem to find you all on it anymore. what's up with that?
  12. In the NWA terminal in Detroit-Rock-City there is a really good sushi place. 4 real. I have also heard that the Westin that is attached to the terminal has a really nice bar with pretty good chow. They have their own security line there so it is easy to get in and out of. They also have a place in the airport that does nothing but PB&J including a PB and bacon. DTW
  13. why oh why do you foresake me, Washington National's? Why? We went to the game on Saturday. They got hammered by the Cubs. Hammered. But worse than that? The food. The lines were crazy long. There was no way that I was going to get anywhere near the front of the line at Ben's, Cantina, or 5 Guys unless I wanted to wait 3 innings. Same was true for the lines for the chinken fingers and fries. We eventually settled on italian sausage with peppers after waiting, no shit, about 20 minutes. When we got to the end of the line to get the dogs there were no peppers and onions left nor italian sausage. We both had to settle for cold hotdogs with cold sauerkraut. LAME. I can't believe that I am going to say this, but I WANT THE CONCESSIONS AT RFK back. At least you didn't have to wait 20 minutes for food. And don't give me the excuse that it was the 2nd largest crowd of the year and they couldn't handle it. I have been to 12 major league ballparks and even at Wrigley Field where every game is a sellout, you don't have to miss three innings of baseball to get your food, yo.
  14. today for lunch a rare burger at BLT. it had the nicest tomatoes and SHARP cheddar cheese on it. I have been burping up the red onions on it for the past three hours. It wasn't even kobe and it cost $16. can you believe that?
  15. Yeah man. I am in my 30's and I have recently developed an allergy to shellfish. Well, iodine really. Figured that one out when I had a bad reaction to an injection of contrast dye for a CT scan. Now I have to go waaaaay out of my way not to eat any of that crap. My nurse practioner mother has told me that sometimes if you have an allergy and you have a reaction to something the next reaction can be even worse. I love all things in the shell but it's not worth not being able to breathe. I am definitely VERY careful and beleive me, it is no fun at all. I really really want crab cakes but I enjoy breathing so much better. Sometimes I get the feeling that people think this is merely me trying to get attention.
  16. pasta in vodka sauce with panchetta at Il Mulino. I have never seen more food served at one time, ever. Even at TGI Fridays. Holy crap-ass it was insane. And not good at all.
  17. crappy blackened tuna salad at Bobby Vans. yuck. over cooked and over priced
  18. Puka Dog on poipu beach in Kauai. God damn that is some good-ass dog. We ate there twice on out honeymoon. Maybe 3 times. They make it with pineapple relish. I want one now. Will you bring one back for me please? Just put it in your carryon if that's cool...
  19. A few rules should be followed 1) No strollers in the dinning room, or blocking the entrance. Leave it in the car. 2) No multimedia setup on the table so Timmy can watch DVD's. 3) No the kitchen can not warm up your nuggets or Tofu hotdogs. 4) No requesting to turn the music down because Timmy needs a nap, what about what I want. For that matter leave the enviornment, air and heat alone as well. So with you dude. I would add to this list: 5) if your little preshus is screaming and fussing please take him for a walk outside and calm his little sweet self down. In my mind this list does not apply when you are at a non'"fine dining" place. It is all on me if I go to CA Tortilla or Ruby Tuesdays and junior is acting up. But even there? I don't want to see your kid's crap. Gross man.
  20. Hamburgers with sharp cheddar cheese French fries mac and cheese queso fundito buckeye cake
