  1. I am sorry I started this. I am not a snob nor an elitist and don't wear a suit and tie to work(we're not that formal). But I do believe in this just like I give my teenage sons guidance on what to wear when we go out as a family. I.E. a polo shirt is mostly acceptable and a whole lot better then their undershirt with blood and sweat stains from lacrosse or hockey. I give them guidance that I really don't want or need to see their boxers or their girlfriends thong. I would expect have expected most on this list to share these opinions as they do affect the dining experience. But maybe not.
  2. The funny thing is most of this list would come down hard on an establishment that served a great wine in a cocktail glass. Dress, surrounding, sound, lights, are all part of the dining experience. And the last time I went to a DR happy hour, I didnt see any torn jean or T-Shirts that folks here seem to now think is the norm.
  3. Maybe I should show up in a tank tap, cut of shorts and a pair of crocs!! And drink Dom from the bottle!!
  4. No shock but dress appropriate for mowing the lawn needs to stay home or go to Bens chili bowl.
  5. I like t-shirts as well but do they really have a place for mid to high end dining. Yes if you are going to the Bar at Matchbox but no if you are going to the Bar at proof. yes if you are dining at the Vienna Inn but no if you are dining at Komi or PS7.
  6. Had dinner at Zaytinya Saturday night and was amazed at how many people walk up in t-shirts looking pretty ratty. Most folks there dress well and those in T-Shirts appear to be the minority. This is not your college tail gate or your own backyard, come on folks..step up your game.
  7. Its just you. Scott does a great and consistent job. I stay away from pizza but this is my teenage boys favorite.
  8. I used to work around the corner and my go to was the fish soup with hot sauce. Amazing.... Makes me want to walk 7 block in the rain today!!
  9. Waters appliance in Gaithersburg.
  10. Use a chefs knife. Paring knives are fine for cheese but chefs knife works for about everything else.
  11. Another great meal at Dino last night. Dino has become a real favorite as we can BYOB and get treated well with great wine service. I started with 1/2 order of Duck pasta which was sublime and then followed with the Salmon entree which was perfect. The espresso pana Cotta was exceptional. The other 3 in our party all had great meals as well. The only issue was the upstairs was about 20 degrees hotter then the downstairs. I thought for a moment my frieds wife was going to take her clothes off because she was that hot. Next time the downstairs!!
  12. Try Chef Allens in Aventura. I went to school a long time ago with the Chef Allen Susser, who is a Beard award recipient. Amazing food and Service, a reall foodie place. Very caribean influenced style. http://www.chefallens.com/home.cfm Mark
  13. Does anyone know if there are age restrictions in the bar/lounge. I'd like to stop in with my 16 year old next Saturday. Mark
  14. I have to pass, my son has a Lax game. And my other son is back from college for the week. So I will live vicariously through those that attend.
  15. What about wine? Any chance of BYO?
  16. Any shops you would recommend to buy choclates for Valentine's day. Dupont circle area would be ideal. My wife really like champagne and choclate. I have the bubbly now need the choclate. Thanks
  17. Don't. My last time there the waiter wiped a drop of wine of the bottle with his finger. We are appalled!! Service was poor.
  18. Amsterdam falafel in Adams Morgan does a great job. If you have never been you owe yourself to get there at least once.
  19. Since my staff has been working hard to get a project done I am in charge of food delivery. (management has to do something usefull) We have had pizza and burritos.. Chinese would be good. Any recommendations for a place that would deliver to Tomas Circle(16th and M NW) Thanks and have a great holiday Mark
  20. Our family went here last night and all 4 of us were not impressed. My sons had burgers which were thin(their words) and charred. My wife had a NY strip that was thinly cut and I had broiled shrimp which was plain. Nothing jumped out on the menu. We only went here because we were picking up my son from the airport. We live in Rockville and will stick to Addies, or Garret Park Bistro both of which are neighborhood spots. I wasn't sure what Mel Merie Grille wanted to be and not sure they suceeded either.
  21. I just called trying to make a reservation on Sat night for a family of 4 as my son is flying home from college. No reservations Any other suggestions.. Rustico looked great until I was told they don't accept reservations after 6pm. So if I was a senior citizen or family with infants I would be OK.
  22. We just threw ours out. Too hyped and did not produce.
  23. Nage-Thomas Circle is real nice 15Ria-Nice as well Smith and Wollensky will run you 100/per by the time u get done.
  24. Took my family + inlaws Friday night. Amazing as usual. Had a Gigonda which was a great wine for the price, Everyone loved the steaks. My 18 year old son back from college inhaled his. I swear I have never seen a 16oz vanish. Deserts were great as well. Michael was absent so I couldn't toast him!!
