  1. For some reason, possibly parking, RTC is a place I avoid. Yet Traville gateway and Traville Center are always packed.
  2. For drinks I really like Jack Rose in Adams Morgan. The bartenders are under rated but some of the best in town.
  3. Life is way to short to wait for wine. There is lots of good wine around.
  4. I have never had a bad meal at CG and the Stolli Dolli's are usually perfect. I have eaten atCG in Baltimore, Downtwn DC and Tysons and each time was very good such that I'd go back. My preference compared to other joints where they show you the uncooked food first. I have not been to Charlie Palmer yet but I would expect them to be very similar. Not saying it is a great value like Ray's but the ambience and room between the tables are valued.
  5. The appeal was there. Different then Giuseppi's, V&D did make some very filling giant slices. After hockey at Cabin John, my son found it close, warm and filing.
  6. I tried BF yesterday with a challah and two Ciabatta rooms. The challah had too much crust and not enough taste. Pales to what Great Harvest sells as a challah. The rools were meh, again too crusty and not enough taste. I won't go out of my way to stop back.
  7. Is this BYOB, i saw that mentioned? This is the first DR event that is on my way home. I ho past Old Anglers twice a day in my commute from North Potomac to Reston. Avoding 270 with a stick shift keeps me happy and sane. As does a few glasses of wine everyday!!
  8. Daniel-The endless and bottomless brunch at Sugo has no rival. The food is good, the devilled eggs are like crack and my wif ethink the french toast is desert. So much good food I can only do it the few weekends when my sons are home. My younger one, at 21 eats more then anyone we have ever seen. He even felt full after the brunch. My wife and I went last Friday night to happy hour at Sugo, happy to get out of the house considering that I had hip replacement the week before. We were able to snag two seats at the bar and the 5 plates we shared were good to great. The meatball was the size of a softball and very good, the scallops done nicely, the nochi good. The roasted vegtables were a little too firm while the salad was great. 5 plates, two drinks each and it was a great night. I welcome going back.
  9. A better Challah comparision might be Great Harvest as it is actually a good Challah. I haven't tried Bread Furst yet but I am sure they use better ingrediants and thus command a higher price. One can buy $3 wine from Trader Joes or get a great Cote De Rhone from Arrowine somewhere between 10-15 usually. It is retail, the buyer has choices. I cant wait to try Bread Furst!
  10. I am note sure why there have been no posts in 3 years. Must be that the food obsessed bloggers don't go here. We had brunch today and it rocked. Great atmosphere and space, lively and airy destination and very good food coming out of what seemed like a small kitchen. We Ron had fried chicken, wife had a wild mushroom and spinach omelet and I had a Benedict variation with spinach. All taken to then next level with Cajun sides and lively spices. Drinks were great as was services. I would go back again in a heartbeat. It helps that my son moved to Adams Morgan and it is much more interesting going to see him them in Our neck of the woods, Rockville, Bethesda and north Potomac. icing on the cake was our ability to score a parking spot right outside. I had hip replacement surgery last Monday so walks are measured by the block for now.
  11. My son and I ate donwstairs last night after consuming some of the best old fashioneds we have ever had. The bartenders know their craft and it is obvious from the drinks they deliver and watching them work. We both had the burgers for dinner along with Pork Belly as a starter. All were well prepared and went down well with an IPA which I can't remember, it was foggy after a few drinks. I welcome the oppurtunity to go back and will visit this place ofter as it is walking distance from where my son now lives.
  12. Was in the British Virgin Islands a few weeks back and fell in love with Matouks hot sauce. Anyone know where to source locally? Thanks
  13. LOL-They had to postpone as Girl twisted her ankle. My son sent a pizza over and they will try again soon.
  14. My son, 23, has a date tomorrow night. The girls lives in the U street area and I thought I'd ask on this list what is around there that is interesting and will not bust the bank. From this board I saw El Churo, Meredian Pint, maple and Eatonville all looked god on paper. I've never been to any of these so I am looking for 1st hand opion. He would liek to stay under 100, preferably under 75 for 2 including a few drinks, appitizer and entree. He isnt the most adventersome eater, so american, italien and mexican come to teh front of the list. Thanks
  15. Don While I am not proud I work down the block from Mykonos and generally avoid lunch as the time comitment is too large, Mykonos is one of my go to places when I go to lunch in Reston. Food is generally fresh, unlike your experience and the parking much easier the Reston town center,
  16. I looked at the corkage list and the properties showed the document I found on the country website to be from May 2013. I love corkage as well and will plan on calling before I bring.
  17. We had a bried stop in San Juan last Saturday night and wisely choose Jose Enrique. The wait to get a table was huge and the hostness couldnt manage the crowd and waitlist. Almost to the point of leaving after 2 hour wait we finally were seated. Boy was the food good. We had a tomatto and bacon risotto that was heavenly, house made sausage and many other items I cant quite remember. Very tasty and all good.
  18. My wife and I went here last night and we'll be back. It wasn't fine dining but the food was better then decent and well prepared. The servers get an A for effort and most important as an independant neighborhood place I hope they suceed. They don't try to be Cava and I think they do a better job then Quench in the same shopping center. I disagree with previous posts about noise. 8pm on a Saturday night and we were able to carry out a conversation. The table were not on top of each other, we were seated against a wall in the front and it was fine. Also bright, where too many places I need both my phone and glasses to read the menu. Yes, there were kids dining too. I really don't think people should be taking their 6 and 8 year olds out to dinner at 8pm but that is a different rant. We each had salads to start and they were fine. Well prepared, good mix of greens and nice dressing. Bottom line, this is 5 minutes from my house and I'll be back. I had the fry basket with fried oysters, grilled shrimp and scallops. And a few Fat Tire drafts. I would order it again. My wife had grilled Mahi and she thought it was fresh and well prepared. They claim nothing is frozen
  19. Went to the Betheda location last night to celebrate my Birthday with my wife and 23 year old son. We were all very happy with the service, the food and the beer. I had the Thai Mussels, my wife had Salmon and son had short ribs. We were all very happy with our selections as well as the appitizers. Felt it was a place we should have gone to before and will be back. I live in Rockville/North Potomac and much better then what I can find closer to home.
  20. The brunch is still there and a great deal at $30, for bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. The deviled eggs, steak and eggs, short rib hash, omlettes and fritattas were all spectacular. My younger son, the 21 year old hockey player had two orders of chicken and egg as well as 5 or 6 other platers. We shared a breakfeast pizza, he enjoyed the smoked salmon on a house made roll and we each had an order of french toast for dessert. The funny part if though me and my wife were in a food coma all day with no need for any more food, he had another 3 large meals!!! I was sad that he left yesterday to travel abroad and then go back to school but now there will be food left in the house and much easier shopping.
  21. Friends don't let friends drink swill champagne. My go to bottle is Billecart Salmon Brut Rose, which I am bring to a friends dinner tonights. Not easy to find in this area but well worth the hunt. Arrowwine recently started carrying it.
  22. Did he ever resolve the alledged financial mess he was in?
