  1. Annapolis Seafood market does a huge business and I frequent them weekly. Lately I've been buying mostly swordfish as it is fresh. You should ask them about the tuna.
  2. having lived in the rockville north Potomac watelands for the past twenty years I acn say I'm happy my kids were well educated but this has and always will be a culinary waste land. perhaps it was exciting when Cava opened or sometime in the 90s when I partied with the Greaseman at Niwano Hana. I'm halftime in Annapolis right now yet places now my May and want to get to know me, Tonight dinner with friends ended with a few extra glasses of Rioja Riseva because the owner thought we needed to try that. never has that happened in20 years in Rockville. And by the way my store here had my favorite champagne Billecart Salmon Rose 10 less then my go to store in Arlington.
  3. A few years ago my son received an award from the JCC in Rockville, Perlman award for sports. Very big annual event with several recipients and a few 100 attendees. The crowd was ecstatic then they had it catered by Bens from New York. Literally I thought I overdosed on deli by the end of the evening. A year before they had used on of the local delis in Montgomery county and said they would never do that mistake again.
  4. Anyone get the French Cook Top on their range. I know Bluestar and Wolf both offer it in their 48 and 60" sizes.
  5. I am just starting the journey to remodel the kitchen at my house in Annapolis. What are features or appliances you must have. Opinions on French Cooktop, Wolf, ect. Looking to combine two rooms into a large and interactive kitchen where guests will drink wine while dinner cooks.
  6. Red, Red wine is up the street and has great cheese selections, wines and good entrees. As an Annapolis native I can recommend it. If you go over the bridge to Eastport, Carrol's creek is nice, Oleary's great but fancier. Blackwall Hitch is another choice. The boatyard packs sailors in, good atmosphere but the food can be hit or miss. If your willing to Drive away from downtown, Grapes of Annapolis is stellar.
  7. It also depends on your usage. I tend to cook a lot of the meal on the grill, from salad and veggies to potatos and proteins. Thus the need/desire for a big grill of lots of heat and area. In fact just got a griddle so I can out it on the grill and cook breakfast out there. I'm still gunning for a BGE but that's more for low and low.
  8. I use my grill as much as possible. Even cook Thanksgiving turkey on it and shovel the deck to use it. In Rockville I have a Weber Summit natural gas with a dedicated gas line. I have had it 5 years and it should last another 10+. I bought a 2nd house in Annapolis recently and bought a Napoleon PRO 665. It is bigger and hotter. My test was to be able to get two 1/2 sheet pans on the grill whiile still having grill space to cook for 6 people. This is a propane grill but I plan on running a line from my propane tank soon. Both very good gas grills. Not cheap but if you grill most weekend days and a lot of weeknights then these shine. I do use sear burner and Rotiserrie as well as large lamb cuts. True Value carries Weber and Chesapeake Spa in Annapolis carries both Weber and Napoleon so I was able to put them side by side.
  9. I bought the Napolean 665 a few weeks ago and it actually kicks ass on my Weber Summit S670. Bigger and badder. I am able to cook at least 2 1/2sheet trays of potatos or vegies while still having tons of space to grill.
  10. This BBQ has its moment and I mean a one and only moment. last year I had each of my hips replaced. My wife was able to call ahead and walk to grab this stuff, come back and eat with me in the hospital room. Better then the hospital cafeteria for guests and hospital food for patients. But not worth a detour.
  11. What day and time did you go? The last time I tried the wait was almost 2 hours, that is a deal breaker all the time. I live in Annapolis on weekends, I suppose we'll go on some stormy night when the tourists aren't there!!
  12. I've visited Grapes Wine Bar in Annapolis at least three times in the past month as we are closing on a house nearby. We had a great dinner there Saturday night and prior times have enjoyed food and wine at the bar. This is a wine bar with a great selection of wines by the glass and bottle. Lots of chalkboard specials and special pours that night. Small but reasonable menu with good cheese slections and all good entrees. The whipped Goat Cheese with Fig jam is amazing. This is a locals spots on Forrest drive outside of downtown Annapolis. Thus the crowds aren't there and there isn't a wait to get seated. The prices are not upscale DC or Bethesda but reasonable and laid back Annapolis. I saw a bottle of Billecart Salmon Rose Champagne for $90, retail is not much less. I'll be drinking the Friday night after we close on this house.
  13. I bought the Napoleon and will be cooking on it starting June 19th. It cost about the same as my weber and is larger. It can hold two 1/2 sheet pans on the grill while also allowing rooming to grill proteins. I can tell that a Big Green Egg will soon be next to it.
  14. While I may pour my wine once opened, I'm very comfortable and prefer when my server does it. Service, which I top on, generally includes opening and pouring the wine. It may include chilling and decanting as well. Given the height of good stemware. the server has an easier job pouring standing up then i might seated.
  15. I just bought a 2nd home in Annapolis and need to but a LP gas grill. I'm inclined to get another Weber 6-670, anyone have any other recommendations on a godo, large, gas grill that I can use 3-4 times/week. Thanks
  16. Annapolis is highly recommended. There are tourist boats which get you on the water and give a tour of the harbor. Or just hit one of the local joint s for a crab feast. Tour the Naval academy. See the boats on Ego alley. Drinks at the Chart House.
  17. I actually think their online list is their actual list. I recall their having an online cellar system which tied inventory into the list you see. The gnocchi are some of the best in town and their cheese service is superb. Dark space but they offer lighted magnifying glasses to read the menu. Enjoy.
  18. With 1000 bottles in my cellar I do ask and pay for corkage in special occasions. And in those circumstances such as a high school or college graduation, I am typically picking a bottles that I have owned and stored for many years. IE when my son graduates RPI this month I will be looking to open 1993 California Cabernets I bought when he was born. But I'm not a wine snob and have had a great time at Proof with friends and a few bottles of 40 dollar Rioja. It was great. Many times I'm more then happy to cook and open up a great bottle at home. cellar tracker makes it easy to see what I have and what other think of what I'm about to open.
  19. We ate here last night before the Caps game. I am really surprised there is little discussion on this board about this place given that is was really good and i would definatly go back. We got there at 5:45 it was fairly empty but an hour later it was full. Service was great and our server really knew each dish as he was able to explain in detail what it was. These are small plates meant to be shared, we had 4 plates and a bowl of chips and were really full. The space is reaally nice and lively. Plaintain chips with sweet potato sauce. Good kick and a great way to start the meal. Nobu Usuzukuri-This was flouder cerviche. Beautiful slices of flounder with radish. Plate was large and this was really good. Lamb Potstickers- Another great dish. Came with a lace of Cumin which added great flavor to each bite. Aeropuerto-Advertised as fried rice with 20 vegtables.. Another great dish. Lots of tiny chopped veggies with good flavor..Really didnt notice much rice at all. Short Rib-I am always a sucker for Short Ribs and this was very good. Jose Andres is one very smart guy and he has executed this concept very well. Choose wisely on the menu and you will not be disappointed.
  20. I live in 20850 but outside of Rockville city limits. Sucks when it snows as the county forgets about us. Fairly close to Cava and accross from Lakewood Coutry Club. my neighbor like to call itself The Willows of Potomac, but we are not Potomac.
  21. Don't ask a question if you will not like the answer. Give Roberto some slack, as he didn't share your culinary vision.
