  1. This is bad news. My boys, now 19 and 22, grew up on Guiseppe's. In fact Scott let us host a birthday party there at the original location where the kids cooked pizzas. I'll send my men over when they get back from school for a taste test, doesnt sound good.
  2. Been to Charleston twice for sailing and eating. Great town. Lunch was on the water and dinner was great. We ate at Fig, Husk, Cypress and Magnolia. Fig and Husk were spectacular. December could be chilly but if you want to sail or go out on a boat, Ondeck Charleston is the place to contact.
  3. The best investment I made when we finished our basement was in having a wine cellar built with racking and refrigaration. It is a large walk in closet with redwood racking, proper insulation, glass door and an air unit through the wall. It holds about 850 bottles in a variety on configurations from diamond bins that hold a case to rack which cradle individual bottles. I tend to buy lots of cases of consumable wine in the 10-20 range for everyday consumption while i use cellar tracker to track about 200 bottles which are more special.
  4. Does anyone know where I can purchase Hen of the Woods Mushrooms in the MD/DC/VA area. Had them recently at Craft and they were awesome.
  5. Birthday dinner with my wife last night. This place rocks and should get more traffic on this board then it does. Business was good for a Tueday night, we were glad to get a booth in the back which was quiet and secluded. Forgot to mention that they have Half off Wine Bottles up under 100 on Tuesdays but since we were using a living social deal we were not eligible to participate. I'll be back as the savings would have been the same and I hope Grapeseed would benefit more in their pocket. Kudos on explaining this to us the moment we were seated so there were no doubts about it. We had a 2007 Gigonda, fairly priced at 66 . One of my favorite wine regions, they had a ice selection but I would have like to see a see more at this price point. Vacqueryas would be an example. The Giogonda was great and the wine service very nice. Glasses refilled as needed but respecfully with only small and proper pours. We had Mushroooms fricasse and heirloom tomatoes for appritizers. Both were very nice and light. I had swordfish for my wine while my wife had short ribs. Both were executed perfectly. We shared a lemon merrange desert, prepared with blood orage essence. A bit different but I scraped the plate clean..No complaints. In Summary, Grapeseed does a very good job. I hadnt been there in a while and will have to make sure I get back sooner.
  6. I was at Black Salt last weekend. The food, service and ambiance were all great. FWIW they have a good wine list and the bar makes some great cocktails.
  7. Blue Smoke and Maialino are both looking great, have to wait a few days until reservations are available on opentable. I thank everyone in advance. Like I said, my sons have limited palates. Even Maialino will seem adventuresome to them.
  8. Thanks.. I'll get on it. I was at Del Posto the last time in NY, it was great and i was really glad my nephew(whose wedding it is) treated. My sons love Hill country but my wife might shoot me. I'll look at Maialino.
  9. My wife and two sons(19 and 22) will be up in Manhatten for a wedding that weekend. Friday night we are looking for something good, close to Union Square as we'll be staying at the W and that metas the needs of my two boys whom primarily eat chicken, steak and pasta. The wedding is at Craft the next night and I'd rather not spend $$$$ at a steakhouse. Lots of recommendations like Hearth would work for me but my sons would not be happy. I thought I'd ask the board before we throw darts between Mesa Grill and 5 Napkin. BTW-That Friday night is our wedding anniversary as well! Little Italy or Village could be great but where. Thanks in advance Mark
  10. Dinner last night at Blacksalt was superb. It isnt cheap as 3 appitizers, 4 drinks, 4 entrees , 2 deserts cam to $400 before tip. But the food was great. Fried oysters and Clams were delicate and fried very well and the Black Group does their musels well. Drinks were very good, I had a spicy Margarita that was heaven. We all had fish for entrees and everyone cleaned thier plate along with two bottles of Savignon Blanc. Atmosphere and noice level was great. We were able to talk for 3+ hours, dining room was well lit and patrons dressed in a nice casual way. This is a gem in the Palisades and as I live in Rockville a very good choice as opposed to going further in DC.
  11. Location, Location, Location. If I lived in Clevland Park I'd probably eat at Dino once a week, same if I was close to Rays. IMHO its generally who I am meeting and where they live. Then noise level comes into play. FWIW, tomorrow night I am meeting friends at Blacksalt for dinner. They live in Arlington, we live in Rockville and I figured its fairly quiet and kids free.
  12. Volt- When I last dined there service was perfect. Attentive, extremly knowledgeable yet not over bearing.
  13. Do you pour your wine an extra special way, please tell.
  14. One Friday night in Vegas after a week of hiking. Looking for a great dinner on/near the strip. Considering Craftsteak, Sage .. any others i should consider. I want to keep it around 200-250 PP including wine.
  15. Elote Cafe was great. I still think about it from a food perspective. very authentic mexian food. As told above service and waiting can be an issue. We waited about 45 minutes which was one margarita. The attractions are the hikes and views. If family is active then get a book of Sedona hikes and do a few. We did and they were memorable. I did some mountain biking and thought I was going to die, you milage may vary but brakes dont work well downhill on rocks and sand. We ate at Enchantment one night as we stayed there. Nothing to write home about. The spa at Enchantment was top rate. We didnt go as far as the wineries but about an hour out of Sedona there were tasting rooms affiliated with the Wineries. All good but the hikes and sights are what you are there for. If I went back I would do a hot air ballon.
  16. Thanks..My son called me and said he is dragging me to Union Jacks, I may be the oldest person there.
  17. Looking for suggestions on where to watch the Caps game tonight and have dinner with my 21 year old son. Would rather avoid the Green turtle and Buffalo Wild wings. May have to call Freddy's to see if they will have game on. Rockville/Bethesda would be best. Thanks Mark
  18. Daniel What is the parking situation nearby. I'd be coming from Reston and the metro is not an option.
  19. Went here with my wife Saturday night before the movies. Food was very serviceable and steady. We splits four tapas the highlight was a peper stuffed with short ribs which were very good. Chicken skewers were OK and a salad of hearts of Palm, Avacado and shrimp was a nice large portion, fresh but needed more spice. I'd go again as it was much quieter then the typical georgetown ruckus.
  20. Thanks but we live in the Potomac/Rockville area, DC, NOVA or Frederick...
  21. looking to go out next Saturday night with friends, we'd like to do corkage if possible. Any recents experiences. Have laws changed in Virginia? Thanks in advance
