  1. yum, 5 mins walk from our house - can't wait and I was known to be 'quite' the table tennis player in my day
  2. yes, but the overall tone of subsequent posters was fairly pro-Palmer and writing off the complainer as a harpy....so I doubt (hope) that lasting damage was not done unlike last week when the Blacksalt comments were all in the "yeah, I was treated like dirt by their front of house people as well" vein
  3. Ten Penh has usually been fairly solid for RW - usually chooese from 3 apps, any entree and 3 desserts definitely going to Corduroy this year!
  4. no way!!! how was it resolved?
  5. just to add to the thanks to Jill and hillvalley for organizing the event - twas most enjoyable and fun to sit there and focus so intently on cheese for an hour or so personal favorites for me were the Rocchetta, the Piave Vecchio and the Brinata. The Fossa and the Ubriaco were quite strong, I actually think I preffered the Fossa - there was something overpoweringly fruity about the Ubriaco for me looking forward to more tastings in the future
  6. yeah, they seemed like legit complaints to me (never been to Blacksalt) unlike the bullshit Eve complaints we saw last week
  7. had lunch there today two of us split 6 mini-burgers and a small pizza - try as I might I could not convince my dining partner to order the choc chip bread pudding (I will thank her tonight as I weigh myself) burgers were ok - they've been better and were more well done than the requested medium - sure we could have sent em back but its lunch and everyone's in a hurry then had the portobello and artichoke white pizza - quite good, probably not as good as the white proscuitto pizza but not bad - drinking loadsa water this afternoon our server was delightful $32 incl tip and one soda oh, and the expansion seems to be progressing well - when I queried, they said it should be ready in 5 months
  8. This weeks CW specials 2000 Marques de Moral Valdepenas, Spain “If there is a better wine currently available from anywhere in the world for the same price, I am unaware of it. Perfectly mature, it shows superb balance and integration, with subtle notes of smoke and spices accenting a core of soft cherry fruit.” Michael Franz "The Washington Post" 2000 Marques de Moral Val de Penas Red Wine; Tempranillo; Spain; Sale Price $5.99 Regular Price $6.99 Offer good through 6/14/05 2003 Chateau Clos Floridene Graves Blanc “A blend of 50% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Muscadelle, this stylish white Bordeaux is wonderfully balanced, intensely flavored and possesses a superb purity of fruit.” Calvert Woodley Wine Staff "One taste of the wonderful wines he makes reveals that Clos Floridene is a superb white Graves, nearly matching the quality of such legends as Laville Haut-Brion, Haut-Brion-Blanc, and Domaine de Chevalier. The price remains a relative steal, although Dubourdieu’s talents have been recognized throughout Europe and Great Britain; Clos Floridene has indeed been discovered. This is a terribly underestimated, excellent wine that deserves to be a classified growth in the Graves firmament." Robert Parker “Bordeaux” 2003 Clos Floridene Bordeaux Blanc White Wine; Sauvignon Blanc; Other Bordeaux; Sale Price $16.99 Regular Price $19.99
  9. can't hurt to try - they take calls between 2 and 4 I believe - you may have to be flexible and eat early though fwiw - I got a same day reservation there about 6 weeks ago - called at 3 - was eating like a king at 6
  10. Have any of the pro's out there tasted the 2004 Bordeaux's? Futures offerings and 'scores' are starting to pop up and prices seem reasonable. Any input is appreciated.....thanks
  11. 8.99 @ CW http://www.wineaccess.com/store/calvertwoo...uct_id=10728533
  12. yeah, I miss Larry and Uptown Scoop as well - my sister used to work there and during the winter months Larry would do peoples taxes in the store my favorite flavour was Arbuckle's delight, vanilla ice cream w/ warm chocolate poured into it to create an incredible mouthfeel of hundreds of tiny pieces of chocolate - all the ice cream was made by Lee's in Baltimore so you can still get it in some places
  13. I've had a couple of great $10 or less White Rioja's lately - got em at CW - ask Pepe, he'll sort you out
  14. we had a snacky, cheese-dominated dinner w/ some friends and some wine incl a great Los Vascos Reserve Cabernet that I picked up at CW a few months back for $11 a bottle - drinks like a wine 3 or 4 times the price! Cheeses: Belle Etoile, Shropshire Blue, Manchego, Montenebro and Forsterkase (an amazingly pungent, earthy, buttery cheese wrapped in spruce bark that some friends brouight down from Murrays cheese in NYC - I must ask Jill at the Cheestique tasting if she has ever had it in stock) Wasabi peas from Whole Foods Fancy Terra chips of some kind
  15. chive spaetzle - looks and sounds delicious!
  16. uuuh, I guess its daggers out for Eve day how does she 'know' that dinner at Maestro the same night would have been uniformaly excellent?
  17. weird, the service was one of the things that really 'made' our evening at Eve, top class service btu also warm, friendly, and welcoming, which you don't find at every good restaurant
  18. from todays Post.......lucky Todd - sounds like there are some good meals in your future (hmmm, maybe we need a where I ate on my summer hols thread), and as for the G&T, all I can say is yum......slurp.......burp....let me know if you need a taste tester
  19. we got there at 2 on Friday as well and were surprised at how busy it was not the greatest meal we've had there but good nonetheless we had meatballs, the fried risotto ball special and the goat cheese w/ fig jam - theye were all good - some of the meatballs weren't fully heated through but thats a minor quibble we shared 3 pizza's - margarita, arucola and pancetta, and a special with 'two amys sausage' - I really like the arucola and pancetta pizza although on this occasion they skimped a little on the arucola for dessert we had the orange panna cotta w/ caramel sauce and shortbread cookie - dessert is quickly becoming my favorite part of a meal there - this was divine! and a nice gesture - a free scoop of the mint choc chip for our 4 yr old - absolutely the best mint choc chip ice cream I have ever tasted - truly exceptional - the taste was akin to what you get when you pop a mint leave into your mouth - it made us want to order a full serving but by then we were ready to burst
  20. I guess I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with that statement. Although when you think about it, it is the exact opposite to smoking bans, where if you want a smoke-filled outing you can't have it in a bar
  21. we can only hope - to echo your point, being in bars in NYC (or anywhere in Ireland for that matter where there is a nationwide ban) is such a pleasure these days - no need to burn clothing after a night out
  22. well, I think what they lack in size they will supposedly make up for with taste, "designer beef (huh?), buns baked in-house and taro root chips" which probably fuels the $7 each still, at that price you'd hope they be a little bigger than the ones at matchbox
