  1. cut and pasted from eG Delmarva forum - feel free to remove if not appropriate but thought folks might be interested....although there is no mention of this on their (Farmfresh) website Dear One and All: If you are able to come to the upcoming Sunday market at Dupont Circle (9 am to 1 pm) on October 23, please, please do! The vegetables are glorious and there are still raspberries and heirloom tomatoes...if in dwindling supplies. I just bought the most fragrant organic gingerroot I have ever seen from the Swiss farmer who also grows several types of Asian greens. Both Bernie Prince and Ann Yonkers, the co-founders of our FARMFRESH Markets, were at the market today. They are trying to rally public support to maintain the use of the space at Dupont Circle. Bernie had just been informed that the Colombian Embassy is yet again disgruntled by the presence of the market next door to their building, especially the way that one block of the street is closed to traffic. This was an issue at the inception of the farmers' market and the source of significant legal fees spent defending the use of the space. Now, the embassy is citing national security as a reason for their renewed efforts to cast the farmers out. Colombia's representatives wish the market to get off the street in two weeks, i.e., by the end of the month. Please feel free to email either Ms. Prince or Ms. Yonkers directly or call the market if this matter is of interest to you. http://www.freshfarmmarkets.org/
  2. we had a decent enough cupcake from Wheatberry in Cleveland Park (what an awful name). Not the best I've ever had - that distinction belongs to Two Little Red Hens in NYC but pretty good nonetheless, not dry, nice and chocolately, and the icing was good as well
  3. I believe Roberto Donna is using them at the Lab
  4. indeed, I am lucky enough to have a bottle of Middleton at home! and was lucky enough to be at a party a few weeks ago where one was opened I'm also quite partial to this. Matured in bourbon, port and sherry casks.....
  5. stopped by Dino for another snack yesterday evening Things we liked: - the warm welcomes at the door and the friendly, accomodating service - the salumi plate - the wine - the chicken liver and cod fish crostinis (although the cod I had last week was even BETTER) Things we weren't crazy about - the meatballs - kinda bland and certainly not as good as the meatballs at 2 Amys - the butternut squash crostini - also bland (echoing comments above) our daughter liked watching the meat get sliced! the part of me that wishes I was still on vacation in Spain also wishes that Dino would expand their crostini selection, maybe even changing some daily - I really like the idea of popping in here for a quick glass of wine and some crostini on the way home from work one of these days I really need to order the cheeses!
  6. anyone out there tasted/liked the St Francis Zinfandel on sale at CW this week? (reg$18, sale $14)
  7. Its not a 'name' place but one of the meals we had in NYC earlier this year was at an place called Cibo [Closed 2016]. They have a 3 course lunch menu for $26.95. It was nothing earth shattering but it was nice..... and Otto is really great - if nothing else go for the olive oil gelato sprinkled with sea salt!
  8. Comfort food - I can't think of anything that describes the food at Colorado kitchen better......well, maybe yummy is another word. Stopped by for an early Sunday dinner yesterday evening. Started with some small biscuits, sprinkled with salt - really delicious with some butter and the sweetness of the biscuit intermingling with the salt and the butter. I had Lentil and Bacon soup which is a great dish for a brisk fall day, full of earthy goodness and my wife had a mixed green salad. For mains, I had the burger w/ cheddar and sauteed onions anlong with some seriously good onion rings made from red onions. The burger was tasty but probably more medium well than the requested medium. My wife and daughter split the fried chicken small plate, which came with a very good cornbread muffin and some utterly addictive sauted spinach w/ little pieces of bacon. Our friend had the veal, with mushrooms and pureed root vegetable and the piece I tasted was very tasty indeed. A nice dining experience....we'll be back.
  9. stopped by A&J last Monday as usual had the dumplings, boiled peanuts, bean curd and mustard green salad and tripe soup which were all as good as ever - I am particularly fond of the bean curd and mustard green salad by now also tried some shredded pig ear which was quite tasty and steamed ribs which didn't work at all (for us), and 1000 layer pancake which my wife likes but I find bland $23 incl the bottomloess pot of tea...not too shabby for 7 dishes
  10. Hit oohs and aahs last night and grabbed some fried chicken and fries to go. Chicken was delicious, crisp flavorful skin......will be back
  11. I don't think gentrification was the prime motivation for their move - their new space was much, much better for staff, fans and bands alike....
  12. if its any colsolation my (allegedly) newly repaired roof also leaked this weekend
  13. those late shows kill me - I was at 9.30 last Fri and Sun and I swear it took me till Wednesday to recover fully...
  14. you won't get in trouble with me for saying that - luurve Bucks steak, and unlike Rays its 2 blocks from mi casa
  15. more explanation of the disparity between his 3 stars and what others have experienced (and I know this is kinda off topic for the Dino thread) from Toms chat
  16. thats what I get for typing as I rushed into a meeting - the cheese definitely overpowered the anchovy, in fact I didn't get much anchovy at all I've edited my orig post so it reads like English
  17. stopped by Dino yesterday evening for a flying visit - I think I was in and out in 15 minutes although I would have loved to have stayed longer had a 3 ounce pour of the valpollicella and two crostini - the cod was wonderful and the blue cheese topped anchovy was god, although the blue cheese overpowered the anchovy somewhat $8.80 incl tax....not too shabby
  18. we finally made it here on saturday night - they were busy, but not packed - 4 of us got a table after about a 5 minute wait at 8pm not much to add, the sushi is really good, we had tuna, faty tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp and a couple of rolls including a humungous rainbow roll total for 4 people including several beers, several sodas, a couple of small apps and the afoementioned sushi $80 - bargain....
  19. mini Kit Kat mini Moro mini Dairy Milk Bubbly breakfast of champions
  20. bump stopped by Cheesetique yesterday with a $75 gift cert clutched in my sweaty palm - the moral hazard was killing me ended up with a frankly amazing Brin D'Amour (note this bears no resemblance to the tiny dried out discs masquerading as Brin D'Amour at your local Whole Food) - not cheap but worth every mouthful of oozing buttery goodness also bought some Fourme D'Ambert, Alderbrook, and another whose name currently escapes me but was good - a hard cheese, mild, grassy
  21. hmm, stopped by here yesterday afternoon prior to a Cheesetique expedition maybe we got it on a bad day but we left feeling a little underwhelmed The chicken taquitos were good but neither my duck nor fish tacos had much flavor - my wifes shrimp taco was a little better pity, as we really wanted to like this place
