  1. I had a great Italian sausage sambo there about 2 weeks ago.....was a tough call as they also had a Niman Ranch all-beef hotdog w/ fries on special that day that looked great
  2. this is excellent news - thank you Cathal and Meshelle - I wonder how it will compare to Burdocks, the grandaddy of Dublin chippers.....
  3. and another...... delightful lunch with jm chen - I went with the cauliflower and parmesan soup special, the sirloin of lamb with a goat cheese and rutabaga gratin and the pistachio bread pudding all three were very good, the lamb carried a $3 upcharge but was worth it - cooked exactly to order and the bread pudding was wonderfully moist and tasty off to the gym!
  4. Thanks Dean - kudos to both you guys and the folks at Notti Bianchi for upping the ante to include wine pairings...
  5. I too would be interested in some more details on the wine pairing option.....
  6. Congrats Banco! In honor of this thread I'll be listening to these guys this afternoon
  7. oh dear, what was Carole thinking? I'd be interested in hearing their rationale for such an excessive response.......oh well, I still like her cooking
  8. Full disclosure, not having grown up in a place known for its pizza, I don't really have the passion for the subject that some of you have. That being said, if I'm eating pizza in DC, my first choice would be 2 Amys's for dine-in, Vace for pick-up and (drum roll please) Angelico's in Tenleytown for delivery. I really like their pies, especially one that has eggplant, olives and whole cloves of roasted garlic on it - its salty but good. They also have decent buffalo wings. So go ahead and call me a rube who wouldn't know a slice of good pizza if someone slapped me in the face with one, I just thought I'd share.....
  9. nice thread - thanks Joe, Zora and Raisa for such thoughtful posts
  10. Not sure if we have a critical mass for a get together today but I will swing by there at 3 for a beer (or more if I can find some Rockweilers)
  11. either is fine with me - I'm assuming because they are hotel bars they'll be open thru the afternoon? (my benevolent employers may cut me loose a little earlier today)
  12. jm chen and I are planning to have LUNCH at Corduroy, Thursday January 12th, exact time TBD. If anyone would like to join us, PM me in the next hour or so before I make the ressie.
  13. anyone have any interest in getting a group of Rockwellians together for a lunch (or two, or three) during RW? I'd be interested in Corduroy and Notti Bianchi....
  14. had lunch there today bottom line, service was not great, but they handled it in the right way and the food is top notch they have a 19.50 3-course lunch special which, based on what we ordered is a nice deal I had the ceviche bangkok (mahi mahi w/ green papaya / mint / lime / coconut / achiote) - very good with a nice kick to it the I had Grilled Skirt Steak w/ shiitake mushrooms, Oaxaca cheese mashed potatoes and dragon sauce (whatever that is) - the steak was great and cooked perfectly to order (medium), the cheese mashed potatoes were addictive - great dish for dessert we had the coconut tapioca mainly because we wanted something a little more than sorbet and they were the only two choices on the lunch menu - again an excellent dish, beautifully presented in a glass w/ a big straw and a wonderful slice of dried pineapple, and a shortbread cookie on the side - the tapioca was loaded with sorbet and other fruits as regards the service, although we only got there at 1.15 and it was starting to thin out our server seemed a little flustered from the get go - we sat there for a good 10-15 before we got the drink we ordered, incl water and my steak dish originally came out as a salmon dish, requiring my dining companions to eat while I waited another 10 minutes or so for the steak HOWEVER, when the steak arrived we were informed that it would be comped because of the mistake which I thought was a nice gesture..... I also had tastes/bites of the angry zengo (good) and the edamame (didn't see what the fuss was about) would I go back? Definitely.....
  15. fwiw - some friends went about 2 weeks ago and said it was fantastic

  18. thanks for the various suggestions We ended up making both the lemon jumbles and the grasshopper squares. Both were relatively easy to make and the lemon jumbles were excellent - we haven't tried the grasshopper squares yet because the whole layering and cooling process takes quite a bit of time I would definitely do both again
  19. I and my luurvely wife will be at a cooking class....have fun and good luck with your move.
