  1. I hope he has good Holy Week appropriate dishes next week because I'm going to have to rely on him quite a bit for that I bet...
  2. Who's the brewery that's aging their stout in Highland Park barrels? I found this stuff at Whole Foods and found it to be quite enjoyable...
  3. Hahahaha, what's up Keith Olbermann?
  4. Cork last night for a lovely dinner. I had never had sunchokes before and was easily won over and that rabbit dish was truly outsanding. I found myself dreaming of sunchokes last night.
  5. Had some hen-of-the-woods mushrooms that I picked up at the Dupont Farmers Market this morning. Sauteed them in some olive oil and butter with sprigs of thyme according to a recipe I found online. Very meaty and earthy flavored.
  6. I'm not especially attached to this knife, but it is a good quality knife and I'd prefer to keep it that way. The only reason I mentioned Strosniders (the local hardware store near me) is because I'm pretty sure I saw it mentioned in another thread as a good place to get knives sharpened.
  7. My santoku knife needs mega-sharpening. Is it safe to do this with a sharpening steel or should I run over to Strosnider's to get it taken care of?
  8. I've pretty much given up on milk consumption outside of cooking. For cereal and smoothies, I use soymilk only, and I actually prefer the Trader Joe's brand vanilla soymilk to Silk.
  9. And you would think with all the goodwill and excitement directed towards IndeBleu these days, they would at least spell his name correctly on the website.....
  10. What happened to Jamba Juice out here? They used to be all around the place around 1999 to 2003 and now have all but dissapeared. I know I would pretty much go to the one in the GW Marvin Center on a daily basis when I was in undergrad.
  11. I love Taco Bell. But I think it's safe to say none of us go for enlightenment but to satisfy our basest instincts. I'm pretty sure I told the drive-thru lady at the Taco Bell on Wilson that I loved her...
  12. I enjoyed two cups of Hunt's sugar free pudding (vanilla and chocolate respectively) and a percocet. Thanks wisdom tooth removal!
  13. A Dinner at Central as read by Dunder Mifflin's Michael Scott Arriving just a bit ahead of time before my party allowed me a chance to stop at the bar to try one of the specialty cocktails, and I opted for the apricot sour, a tart, rich cocktail with a foamy head...THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!! Dinner then proceed with the chilled ratatouille, a comforting dish that reminds us of the best things about the summer are fresh vegetables....and seeing Jan's boobies at Sandals, Jamaica. After that, I opted for the sous vide short ribs which came with an almost molasses-thick helping of mashed potatoes. The short ribs themselves were amazingly tender, rich and juicy slabs of pink meat.....no, i must resist.....must. fight......THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!!!! The evening was capped with the most excellent pear tart, the highlight of which is really the show-stealing pear sorbet (or gelato, whatever it is...). I liked the sorbet more than the twins that hang from me lady's chest. It's hard not to see why Central is garnering heaps of praise lately. Hopefully, I'll be able to come here with Ryan soon, even if he is my superior, but I'll always think of him as the temp.
  14. I wouldn't say that. At those prices, you'll certainly feel like you've been taken for a ride...
  15. Looks like the Greeks are holding it down, with Anthos in NYC and Johnny Monis down here getting noms. Synxaritiria paidia!
  16. I'm going here tonight and want to get a good cocktail, since I rarely do so when going out to dinner. I like good gin & tonics (otherwise it tastes like paintthinner and makes me want to die) and whisky. I don't like vodka or foofy liquors. Any recs?
  17. Why is it called the Byzantine cocktail? Is it unnecessarily complicated or was it a favorite of Empress Theodora's during her various scandalous goings-on?
  18. As long as we're piling on with half-baked criticisms, I don't like Palena's website or Frank Ruta's mustache!!!!!! (j/k on the latter)
  19. Regent Thai last night - surprisingly good! I enjoyed a plate of Pad Prig King with beef. Nothing mind-blowing, but this is a good place when you want to satisfy a Thai craving and are in the north Dupont area and want to steer very clear of Lauriol.
  20. Especially if you want to blow-out the power in your office.
  21. Just got back from a nice lunch with coworkers at the WestEnd Bistro. Had the fish burger, which despite being a bit prone to falling apart, was really really tasty and the oven-roasted tomato really adds a flavor dimension that saves it from being a boring fishburger. The three of us also split the mac, ham, n'cheese which is listed for 2 people but really is sufficient for three. The booths are particularly comfortable and we were enjoying the street view and people watching from there.
