  1. Stopped in last night for an early family dinner. Spicy calamari ($6), whole belly clams ($12), warm lobster rolls ($15) and shrimp boat ($5) for the kids. Everything was perfect from the food to the service. Plus the kids love the ice cream ($3) here. Total bill after using a Scoutmob 50% discount was a reasonable $56, including two mixed drinks for the wife. Only downside was the beer list but that was of my own making - decided to give up drinking for lent. Luckily I made it through the temptation of Freddy's without partaking. I did notice that some prices appear to be creeping up a bit on both the food and beer list. I think whole lobsters used to be $19 and are now $21 but I could be wrong. Also, I did see a sign on each table mentioning some upcoming construction on the outside - anyone know that they are up to? Just to add - I happened to be working from home on Friday and I saw that the Red Hook lobster truck was in Bethesda. I know we were going to Freddy's for dinner so I thought no time like the present for a taste test. I ordered a simple Maine Lobster Roll from the truck ($15 same price as Freddy's), while it was decent the lobster did not seem as fresh and the bread was not as good. It also appeared to me to have less lobster than Freddy's and the roll was smaller. Not bad for a food truck but definitely a few major steps below my go to at Freddy's.
  2. If you want some good laughs check out the Yelp thread on Freddy's - truly comical. "The lobster roll is disgusting. Its a hot dog bun dripping with butter and a little bit of lobster (not fresh) and totally over-priced." - I guess they missed the huge tank in the back with live lobsters in it. "Find a DC food truck if you want a better lobster roll!" - Where exactly do they keep and cook the fresh lobsters on that truck?
  3. Didn't see a thread on this place but recently read a review in The Gazette - anyone been. http://www.pdsolrestaurant.com/
  4. Anyone else think that $30 for a large white clam pie is a bit much? I think Pete's is about $26 for an 18" clam pie, not sure how large the Haven pies are but don't think the large is 18" but I could be wrong.
  5. This place continues to be very solid and has made it into our regular rotation. Stopped in again last night with my MIL in tow. Great service, nice dinner specials to mix things up, easy on the wallet, kid friendly and easy parking. We find ourselves going here instead of fighting the traffic and parking in Bethesda. Wine list could use some improvement but not a deal breaker. Apparently very popular with families as nearly half the tables had kids of varying ages.
  6. We stopped in for an early dinner on Thursday around 6 pm and I think we were the only people at a table but the bar areas was packed (looked like a company happy hour). We split a large tomato pie ($14). I was also a little disappointed with the crust - just seemed like it was missing something. We will be back once they get settled in a bit. Couple other observations: Space is very loud - by the time we were leaving the place was packed and it was really loud Beer and wine list is just plain awful They serve your round pizza on a square metal cafeteria looking tray and no plates offered to eat from, seems a bit odd to me Service was friendly and efficient, although our waiter mentioned he had some experience. He mentioned many others had no experience and they were just thrown in to action. Parking tip - there is a county lot behind the building and a separate entrance to the restaurant from the parking lot.
  7. I have stopped going to the Old Town location - slow service, overcooked burgers and sloppy assembly on nearly every visit. On the other hand I was the Bethesda location on Friday and everything was spot on.
  8. Possible beer garden addition: http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Blogs/Table-Talk/January-February-2012/Jeff-Blacks-wurst-idea-A-beer-garden-at-Addies/

  10. Need to pick up some wings for a super bowl party. Where is the best place to get some take out wings - preferably somewhere close to Bethesda.
  11. I noticed a Facebook posting today promoting some new menu items. Went to the website tonight to check it out and noticed a few new items but what caught my attention was the price increases. Mussels are now $20, which includes classic frites (sweet potato are $2 additional). If I recall correctly the last time I was in they were $16 but its been awhile. Mussels are still $16 at Brabo tasting room but without the frites.
  12. Looks like Feb. 15th @ 5pm is the opening date according to a recent email. Looks like website was also updated with this date.
  13. Still not open - wonder what their definition of soon is. Looked them up in the Montgomery County Permit website. Show they applied for a Use and Occupancy permit on 1/19/12 and passed the Fire Marshal inspection the same day. Not sure what other inspections are needed.
  14. This space is now called - Parsian Restaurant. Fairly small menu of various kabaobs. Picked up a menu as I was walking by yesterday. Looks a bit pricey but it is King St. (i.e. Lamb Kabob, served with rice or bread and grilled tomatoes - $17.85). Also, have a couple sandwiches and wraps that run between $7 and $7.50. I will try it out in the next week or so and report back.
  15. Word has gotten out on this place and they don't seem to be able to handle the influx of orders. Total disaster at lunch today. Called in about 7 orders today (mix of bahn mi and pho) around 11:45 am and told order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Arrived at 12:10 pm and order was not yet ready. At 12:40 they told me it would be another 20 minutes for the Bahn mi but the Pho was ready. Told him to forget the bahn mi and just give me the pho. They were very apologetic and gave the order to me without charging me. The phone was ringing off the hook and he was turning people away on the phone - unreal. Those who got the pho in the office thought it was above average but a little light on the meat. I can not offer any review since I had ordered the Bahn mi. I will likely try again but will go at it alone, so much for trying to help drum up business for the new game in town. Also, the prices are slightly higher (0.50 to 1.50) than what is shown on the on-line menu.
  16. Heading to St. Martin - Simpson Bay the first week of April with the family for spring break. Any suggestions?
  17. Noticed on their Bethesda restraunt week menu that they are promoting Cupcake Cabernet or Chardonnay for $26/bottle. Wow - makes me want to rush right over there.
  18. We were there last summer and had a great breakfast at Virginia's on King - good southern cooking, would not hesitate to try for dinner. Our hotel conceirge recommended a few places but we were not able to get to any: Macintosh and Halls Chophouse.
  19. Yes, that is it - sorry about that. I will correct.
