  1. I think we are splitting hairs here, also from Wikipedia: Common cicchetti include tiny sandwiches, plates of olives or other vegetables, halved hard boiled eggs, small servings of a combination of one or more of seafood, meat and vegetable ingredients laid on top of a slice of bread or polenta[1], and very small servings of typical full-course plates. It appears to me that this is what they are serving, not sure what your beef is here.
  2. A few others not exclusively seafood but that have some options: Mussel Bar and Netwon's Table.
  3. Per a tweet from TS, they are closing. Bummer news: @CasaNonna closes tonight. Owner thanks chef but says, "we did not have response we had hoped for" in DC.
  4. We were here this past Saturday night for a joint birthday dinner and lucked into just a perfect night to sit out on the patio. We took Don's advice and ordered a bottle of wine and sat back and relaxed for a good 30 minutes before ordering - wait staff was awesome as they could tell we were here to relax and take our time. We enjoyed the following: Shucked oysters, pan fried oysters, rockfish and the red drum. Everything was fresh with the only slight disappointment being the red drum. When ordered I was asked if I liked spicy because this dish was very spicy and I replied yes no problem. The dish had no kick to it at all but was still very fresh and satisfying. For desert we split the fried apple pie which we both agreed was perfect. I was pushing to try one of the new sundaes but couldn't get the wife to try it. We were also given a free dessert wine with our dessert when they found out we were celebrating our birthday - nice touch. Looking forward to returning here soon. Street parking was plentiful on a Saturday night at 7:30.
  5. Ended up picking some up at A&H for $4.50 each, not whales but a decent size for the price.
  6. Anyone picked these up at any local seafood places this season for home cooking. Looking to make some for dinner tonight.
  7. Based on the recent postings here my wife and I have decided to head here next Saturday for a joint birthday celebration - our first visit and very much looking forward to it.
  8. Looking for somewhere to watch Game 7 tonight with another couple. Trying to find a place to keep the wives happy with above average food while the guys watch the game. Preferably a bar that has tables so we are not sitting four wide at the bar. Black's is an option although at 7:30 the bar will already be packed. Thinking about maybe trying the new Majestic but reviews have been lukewarm. Other options?
  9. They were on the menu at Black's last weekend - $33 (ouch). I had a nice softshell sandwich at the Mussle Bar last week and I think it was $16 or $17.
  10. New breakfast/lunch place opening. Kind of an interesting story. Sign outside says opening May 10th. http://thebottomdollardog.com/index.php/component/content/?view=featured
  11. Thanks guys. Any liquor stores in the area carry it? I am in MD but can travel to DC easily.
  12. We are having a fairly large party at the house in May and my wife thought it would be fun to rent a margarita machine. Can anyone suggest a somewhat decent, moderate priced tequila to use in the machine?
  13. Whenever I have been at Freddy's and the Caps are playing it was always on the tv's. Also, Haven Pizza has a nice large bar with a couple tv's and the new Majestic next door also has tv's at the bar.
  14. I had the lobster stew last week for the first time in awhile and it was as good as ever, although no longer served with the blueberry muffin. Not sure when that change took affect.
  15. Walked by here last Saturday night around 7:30 - only saw 2 people in there (looked like a hostess and a cook). Can't be a good sign.
  16. Leaving this weekend - anything on St. Maarten?
  17. Have been a few times. I would not call this a pizza place - not their strong suit. Sandwiches are pretty decent.
  18. Apparently Luke is not intimidated by Freddy's, coming soon to Bethesda Row: http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Blogs/Table-Talk/March-April-2012/Lukes-Lobster-Vino-Volo-coming-to-Bethesda-Row/
  19. Apparently they opened in January for a week and then closed. Now re-opened as Queen Bee Cafe & Grill, serving Greek and Mediterranean fare. More details here: "Queen Bee Café & Grill Buzzes Quietly into Town" by Carole Sugarman on bethesdamagazine.com
  20. The naan was not the reason for my not going as often but rather the substantial increase in prices, including the 40% increase in the mustard shrimp salad.
