  1. We had takeout from the Bethesda location last night. Service was a little slow and unorganized but they just opened. Food was meh - not rushing back to get again. I agree the sides are nothing to right home about. Luckily, a groupon recently purchased softened the blow. Think we will stick with Don Pollo's - better sides, better value and not to mention easier parking.
  2. My company is the midst of planning our annual holiday party - a seated dinner for about 50 people. They are thinking about the same place as last year, which was fine but I think there may be better options out there. We are looking to have it on either of two weekends - 12/9-10 or 12/16-17. I realize we are a little late at this point and some places are already booked but looking for some fresh options/ideas to suggest to the organizer. Any location is the DMV is ok. Budget is $10k.
  3. Any idea on how crowded it gets here on Friday nights? My son picked Ray's the Steaks for his birthday dinner but when I called for a reservation they only had 5 or 10 pm for a party of 6. Wondering if we should give this location a shot. ETA: And my son wants to know if they have the spiced nuts here? He will only be 8 too funny.
  4. Tried lunch here today. Does not look like much has changed from the Farrah Olivia days, except for the removal of the bar and a new service counter added. It was not very busy when I walked in with maybe 2 or 3 other people in there. Chips & Salsa ($2.50) - Delicious papadum chips made from lentils, served with sweet and tangy Chakra’sTomato Chutney for dipping (Plain, Garlic, Green Chilis, Black Pepper chips) - The chips are made in house and were tasty however the tomato chutney was bland and a very small serving relative to the the number of chips. Chicken Curry ($10)- Chicken and sweet potatoes stewed with tomatoes and spices such as cloves, cinnamon and cardamom. Served with basmati rice. A nice serving with chunks of chicken. Curry was bland and chicken dry and not much spice despite asking for it hot. Little disappointed as I was looking forward to some new options near the office.
  5. Here is some more info including photos of the space and menus. According to this article the name is Rays to the Third. My link
  6. Did a search here and on google but did not find anything. My wife just informed me that we are meeting friends here on Saturday night - anyone been? Suggestions or should I use my power of veto.
  7. Closing for good on Oct 9 - sold to developer who will tear it down. My link
  8. Walked by here today and they are not open yet - looked to be close but saw no signs indicating exactly when.
  9. Bethesda location has closed being replaced by Hot Barbecue & Pizza. Click
  10. The website has a countdown to opening. This past weekend it indicated 5 days to opening but just checked it again and it is back up to 25 days.
  11. Wow, that was rude. While you may disagree with how the review was phrased, its not your place to reword to make you feel better. Not to get into a religious battle but using Ramadan as an excuse is pretty lame in my opinion - if you are not going to put out the best product then don't open or at least let people know before they order.
  12. Closed. http://www.bethesdamagazine.com/Blogs/Table-Talk/July-August-2011/Bubbys-Closed/
  13. Ended up getting a chocolate ganache cake for Dad's birthday. I am not much of a cake person but everyone raved that it was very good - moist and not too dense. Also the chocolate ganache was a nice version, not too sweet.
  14. Not sure many people care about the beer list when they hit a burger place - not sure the burger joint, rays or other burger joints have any better offerings. Not to mention 90% of the population are fine with the beers on their list. You have to accommodate the masses.
  15. Has anyone tried the cakes here yet? Need to pickup a cake for my Dad's birthday and thought about giving them a shot.
  16. We had not been to Olazzo in Bethesda in probably 3 years so we decided to give it a try last Saturday night as my son wanted meatballs. We walked in around 7 pm to a half full restaurant. Needless to say not much has changed from the previous reviews - overcooked tasteless pasta, stale bread, greasy calamari, and cold meatballs. Service was fine and prices are reasonable but really see no reason to return. Should have driven the extra few miles to Amici Miei.
