  2. I have had Bumblefish once in 2-1/2 years working in the area if that is any indication. I will give Momo a shot. It is a bit of a hike sine I am down near the Balduccis but if spring ever arrives I don't mind a nice walk.
  3. That is what I thought. Odd that there is no decent sushi along King Street. Seems to be an untapped market for someone to make a killing.
  4. Been working in Old Town for awhile now and have been unable to find any decent sushi in the area. Anyone have any local favorites that they would recommend for a decent lunch.
  5. Update today on Facebook for the CP location: Hey Fans! Just an update on the Cleveland Park opening: We are hoping to open the doors by either the end of April or beginning of May. We will have the largest RAW BAR in DC you have ever seen, an extended menu, and bar. 6. Did a google search today looking for an opening date - no luck. But did run across this blog entry. http://clevelandparkblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/sneak-peek-cleveland-parks-new-medium.html
  7. From Tom's chat today: THIS JUST IN: As he moves ever closer to a target date of (keep your fingers crossed) April 5 for his highly-anticipated Fiola, star chef Fabio Trabocchi tells me he's hired Miles Vaden, whose departure from the kitchen at Eventide was announced just yesterday, as executive chef for his forthcoming Italian restaurant in Washington. Trabocchi says he selected Vaden, 33, whom he refers to as "a rising star," for his cooking skills and maturity. "I want to help him get to the next level," says Trabocchi, who dazzled Washington audiences with his four-star cooking at the late Maestro and New York audiences at the now-shuttered Fiamma. Trabocchi is also adding Jason Gehring, the former pastry chef at the esteemed Charleston in Baltimore, to his team. Hiring update from Mr. Trabocchi (and it's a doozy): Federico Galeotti GM from VILLA PACRI NY Adrian Reynolds Pizzeria Mozza LA WINE DIRECTOR Megan Scott Central DC Restaurant Manager Justus Frank Eventide Chef de Cuisine Jeff Faile Palena Bar Manager

  11. Picked up some black cod/sablefish on my way home tonight from Black Salt, not cheap $32.99/lb. They advertised on their Facebook page yesterday noting they were getting a fresh (unfrozen shipment) in today. Purchased 1-1/2 lbs for the family. Made up a miso glaze and and soba noodles with mustard greens. Everything looked and smelled great until... Took it out of the oven and it was a mushy, watery mess. Very disappointed and a waste of $50 worth of fish. Probably the last time I try to make this fish at home - at least dining out it can be sent back.
  12. From the DC Office of Tax and Revenue website: February 8, 2011 OTR Revokes Sales Tax Certificate of Mendocino Grille for the Second Time (Washington, DC) - On Friday, February 4, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR), again, revoked the sales and use tax certificate of Mendocino Grille and Wine bar, located at 2917 M Street, NW, for failure to pay more than $80,000 in sales taxes collected from patrons. OTR also seized the business liquor license. In October 2009, OTR entered into a payment agreement with the owner, Troy Brock, following the seizure of the business for non-payment of sales and use taxes. Mr. Brock breached that agreement resulting in OTR’s action on Friday. OTR encourages businesses that are not in compliance to immediately pay any liability due or to contact our Collection Division to arrange a payment plan. The Collection Division can be reached at (202) 724-5045.

  17. We dropped in here last week when we lost power from the storm. Apparently others had the same idea as we had about a 15 minute wait on a Thursday night. Enjoyed a glass of wine at the small bar while we waited. Kids ordered the kids pizza ($5.95) and Mini Burger ($5.95) - kids claimed both were very good. We started with an order of Crispy Calamari & Artichokes ($9.95) - a nice sized portion and light fried. I opted for the Portugese Mussels - a new addition to the menu. It was an interesting options and new to the menu. Mussels were large and tasty. Wife had the pizza which she said was pretty decent. While not fine dining, it was decent with friendly attentive service. I am much happier spending my money here than Rio Grande down the street.
