  1. I went shortly after they opened. They decorated the place like it's an upscale restaurant but many diners brought their young children who ran around the restaurant like a MickeyD's playground. Is this still the case? The menu was very small for an Asian restaurant and I didn't see any lobster dish but the flyer we received had a lobster prominently pictured.
  2. Do they accept reservation? Or am I gonna have to show up at 4 p.m. on a weekend (like going to Ray's).
  3. I've seen references to authentic ramen on Chowhound. Some place that does it only on Sunday afternoons or something to that effect.
  4. If no one else makes another suggestion, then I'll see you at China Bistro at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. I'm gonna be in Vegas this weekend and I think I'm wagering on the Cards plus whatever points. If I win the bet, I'll pick up lunch. I don't care if the Eagles win the game or not, I'm happy if they don't cover.
  5. I'm up for something. This is my to do list for MD: La Canela North China (Bethesda) Bob's Shabu Shabu Joe's Noodle China Bistro
  6. Sorry. I was just laughing at Don'ts linked post.
  7. Is traffic on the beltway going to be bad for Tuesday? I was thinking about schlepping either to Bethesda or Rockville to eat some Chinese.
  8. Had lunch there today. I ordered ramen noodles, uni, and saba. I don't know why I expect real ramen (at $8 a bowl) but these were just some instant noodles. I had a choice of regular or spicy broth. The spicy broth is definitely from a Korean recipe, if not directly from the soup base of Korean instant noodles. The uni and saba was fine. The pieces weren't overly generous in size. With a soda, tax and tip, $25. Miso soup and salad were provided gratis. Today, the salad had a sesame seed based dressing which I'm not a fan of. The chef and staff were very friendly. I think the chef greets most people in Japanse, Korean and English.
  9. Was there equal fascination with W's first meals in DC?
  10. I can take the shitty attitude but I've never had slow service in Philly.
  11. Wow....that is a real diss. Who is Marian Burress?
  12. I tend to judge it by the chopped liver, which this place doesn't do a good job of. I think it's too sweet and not chunky enough. The slaw and chicken noodle soup was terrific though. I'll go back to try out more stuff. How's the tongue? I noticed their tongue sandwich is much more expensive than other meats (such as corned beef, pastrami, brisket, etc.). I don't recall having a tongue surcharge in NYC but I haven't been to a deli in NYC in years.
  13. And the restaurants suggested are: Central Michel Richard CityZen Café Atlantico Johnny's Half Shell Bombay Club
  14. There's one in Cleveland Park. I've read mixed reviews and my personal experience from years ago didn't warrant me going back, but things change all the time. Has anyone been recently?
  15. As much as I like a raw piece of fish, the hamachi was a bland fish and the sides did nothing to aid the flavor of the fish. The ricotta gnocchi is just ricotta cheese roughly in the shape of gnocchis. We ordered 3 apps and they split the gnocchi voluntarily, which is a nice touch but I'm not a big fan of big dollops of ricotta cheese. The seared foie gras was expensive but we received two huge slices of foie gras, and it was seared perfectly. The duck breast, even at medium rare, was a tough piece of meat. The lobster was served in a bouillabaisse veloute, which was quite good. Excellent service and the dining room is very comfortable. I love the plush leather seats but I really this is a dumbed down version of Ducasse.
  16. Complaining takes time and effort and subjects you to further aggravation. If a restaurant can't hire good help, then that's enough cause for me to not bother going back. Why go back if you have to have a talk with the management to get good service? Especially at high end restaurants, they get one shot to make you happy and develop some goodwill. BTW, no amount of complaining is gonna get you 90 minutes of your life back.
  17. Respondeat superior. I've never once asked for a manager's help at a restaurant. If I'm not satisfied with the service I received, then that reflects poorly on the restaurant's hiring policy and training. On that basis alone, I can withhold my patronage and I will blast the restaurant. It isn't a client's job to monitor the staff, it's up to the restaurant to make sure its staff is knowledgeable and well trained. If I had to wait 90 minutes for no reason (as is this case since they ended up with the same table they could've have right away), who's fault is it if not the restaurant's?
  18. I'd stay away from the set menu. If anything, their seafood looks much better than their land-meat options.
