  1. Did anyone get to the official opening night? I'm very intrigued by this place. Small plates plus ciders is like my dream eatery.
  2. We did make it to Smashburger about a year ago. Burgers were very juicy. Sides were middlin'. The flash-fried carrots or whatever they are called were basically hot raw carrots. Not a good look.
  3. Out of the blue I got a text from Clarity this morning that they are now serving lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. Doesn't really help me but sounds like good news for anyone in Tysons/Vienna.
  4. But this is Loudoun County. Our local Glory Days Grill, with plenty of tvs and similar food, but lower prices, is usually mobbed because families can eat decently for a moderate price. People will resist paying $15 for an average burger. $30 ribeyes are not gonna fly.
  5. I didn't read rap:opera as bad music:good music (or vice versa), just as two things that are very far apart, but I agree it was a poor analogy. 62 Mets vs 27 Yankees, perhaps?
  6. Here's a quick report from yesterday. We were in section 237 so we ate on that concourse. I started with the garlic frites from Box Frites. Pretty tasty but a poor value for $9.50. The kid got vanilla gelato from the gelato stand. He reported it was VG. For the maine course we hit Shake Shack. The line moved pretty quickly. The kid got a Double Shackburger and a vanilla shake. Both quite good. I got to have about a third of the burger and 1/4 of the shake. Shake is really rich, delicious. And that is a tasty burger! I got a 'shroomburger, which is a single patty toppped with a fried portobello. I liked it a lot but I think next time I would go for the classic shackburger or the highly touted Smokeshack.
  7. I'm going to the Nats-Marlins game on 5/15 with my kid and a few thousand other Little Leaguers. Looking forward to trying some of these offerings.
  8. I'm the last person to claim expertise on Poke, but another option is Taste of Aloha up in Arbutus.
  9. My far-out neighborhood of South Riding in Loudoun County (Chantilly 20152) is about to become fried chicken central. For years our only option has been the Southern Style chicken biscuit at McDs. We got a Velocity Wings but it's pretty bad. But in the next year or so we are getting a Chik-Fil-A, a Royal Farms, and a Bon Chon!
  10. Is this really a six-year thread bump? In any event, I got a "Federal" Italian hoagie from Taylor yesterday evening, let it sit overnight in the fridge and had it for lunch today. It was perfectly fine. Any better sandwiches in the vicinity of the White House?
  11. Would love to see the reasoning behind this post, especially as it followed a post from someone with a connection to the brewery.
  12. True, but it could be that the good folks of Gainesville weren't ready for a big ol' dose of Clifton sophistication. Wegman's is one thing, but Trummer's, that for them easterners.
  13. I recently learned of the Gainesville joint. A persual of Yelp indicates some service/attitude/price-to-value issues.
  14. I am still heartbroken about my one visit to Nashville, about ten years ago. I drove directly from the airport to Prince's to be there when it opened at noon (this was a saturday)....a crowd formed....and it never opened. And it was closed on Sundays. Had some great food during my short visit at Sweatt's, Monell's, and the Loveless, but I really wanted to try that hot chicken. My nephew will be starting at Vanderbilt in the fall, so hopefully I'll get there at some point. In the meantime, he and his dad have now had real Nashville hot chicken (they went to Hattie B's, which didn't exist when I visited), and I sitll have not.
  15. Anyone been to Peter Chang Arlington recently? I finally made it thanks to a nearby soccer tournament (a common theme for me, it's how I discovered the rockin' Red Truck bakery in Marshall) and got some takeout. They don't let you take out the scallion bubble pancakes so I have not had those yet but I really enjoyed the Grandma's Noodles. Nicely chewy and quite toothsome.
  16. Good move --- Kanishka's comment is three years old and the others even older. The recent Yelp reviews are pretty solid. We've always enjoyed Chutzpah, and often bring out-of-town MOTs.
  17. Marshall will be right at the top of the NOVA "good eats per capita" rankings when these places open. We discovered Red Truck bakery during a soccer tournament last fall and I was in there three times in two days.
